Upon responding to the economic crisis that happened in

Indonesia in 1998, IBL was established initially as a business

leaders forum that was concerned about the unethical ways

business practices in Indonesia. The three founders, Noke

Kiroyan, Heru Prasetyo and John Arnold, were top leaders (CEOs)

of multi-national companies whose vision was beyond the average

thoughts of business leaders at that time. Their initiative to

establish IBL, was triggered by the World Bank, ADB, and UNDP,

and later was supported by other CEOs of companies who felt

frustrated or dilemmatic with business situation in Indonesia where

bribery was a common practice. The Prince of Wales‟ International

Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), a UK based organization,

assisted IBL during its infancy period.

After its official registration as a Foundation under the Law of the

Republic of Indonesia in 2001, IBL has been very active in raising

the awareness of business practitioners on ethical and responsible

business principles. Along with the fast growing of its corporate,

government, and donor agencies, IBL has been continuously

developing new initiatives that give immediate/direct impact to

private sector and their stakeholders. Those initiatives are

manifested in three pillars: Integrity, Capacity, and

Sustainability.

Until now, IBL collaborate with and supported by over 300

companies and organizations, both national and international

level. IBL is also one of the founders of ASEAN CSR Network,

Indonesia Global Compact Network and Philanthropy and

Business Forum for Sustainable Development Goals.

IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS OUR PILLARS

IBL believes that integrity is a fundamental principle

that should be implemented on doing business to

create prosperity for all. Business Ethics or Integrity

is one of main reason for the establishment of IBL.

Since the beginning, the organization has been

doing many programs and activities to promote

ethical business practices, as well as anti-corruption

and anti-bribery, and provide assistance needed by

private sector to build the capacity on implementing

them. IBL has been working with several like-minded

organizations such as KPK, CIPE, ASEAN CSR

Network, GIZ, UK FCO, USAID Cegah, Kemitraan,

Transparency International Indonesia, ICW, and

corporation such as Siemens, Chevron, ExxonMobil,

ITM, BHP Billiton and others as well as with

business association such as KADIN, APINDO,

Gakeslab, and others.

In 2014, IBL has launched Indonesia Integrity

Initiative (www.indonesiaintegrityinitiative.org), a

collective action among business stakeholders on

promoting and implementing business integrity.

INTEGRITY

NATIONAL PARTNERS

• Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) or Commission on

Corruption Eradication – since 2005, IBL in collaboration

with KPK promoting business with integrity Indonesia. IBL

has been actively engaging with KPK in establishment of

National and Regional Advocacy Committee

• KADIN – Koalisi Untuk Pengusaha Anti Suap (KUPAS); this

is an anti-corruption and -bribery coalition of Indonesia

Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

• Transparency International Indonesia – a national chapter of

Transparency International, which is actively implementing

programs and research on anti-corruption issues.

• APINDO – this is an employer association (similar

organization like KADIN) which was on 2009, in

collaboration with IBL has developed a guidance for small

and medium enterprises on developing Code of Conduct.

• Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN) – a chapter of

UN Global Compact, which is emphasizing on practicing its

10 good business principles, including anti-corruption

principle.

• Alliance for Integrity (AfIn) – a business driven multi-

stakeholder initiative between private sector, civil society,

political organisations and international institutions. IBL is an

active member of AfIn since 2016.

• Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) – a non government

organization whose primary mission is to monitor and report

to the public incidents of corruption in Indoensia. In 2017

alongside with Polling Center, IBL and ICW conducted

national anti corruption survey in health sector

Indonesia Business Links organized Business

Executive Briefing in Jakarta themed “Implication of

PERMA 13/2016 on Corporate Criminal Liability to

Business”. The objective was to provide updated

information regarding the issuance of PERMA

13/2016, to discuss the consequence of this

regulation and to gather feedbacks from business

leaders and executives on how business will respond

to the implication constructively.

The Alliance for Integrity in cooperation with

Indonesia Business Links held a joint session

themed “Strengthening Integrity on

Procurement in Health Sector: Creating Mutual

Benefit for All Stakeholders”.

FLAGSHIP PROGRAMS OUR PILLARS

It is one of IBL missions to build the capacity of

business stakeholders on doing ethical and

responsible business practices in Indonesia. Since

the last 5 years ago, IBL has been focusing on

building the capacity of our youth since they will be

our future leaders in business or other sectors.

Programs and activities have been developed to

prepare and empower youth for work, as employees

(employability initiative) as well as business owners

(entrepreneurship initiative).

IBL has been working with several organizations

such as International Youth Foundation, Youth

Business International, ILO, Oxfam, Plan

International and others and with corporation or

corporate foundation such as Citi Foundation,

Caterpillar Foundation, Accenture, and others as

well as with government agencies such as

BAPPENAS, Kemenaker, Kemendikbud, and several

district and municipal government.

Capacity building requires an in-depth intervention

to thrive. With that in mind IBL usually design a solid

program that works in longer term periode compares

activities we implement in the integrity pillar.

CAPACITY The EquipYouth program covers Batam,

Karawang, Bekasi (Cikarang, Cibitung, Bantar

Gebang), and Cileungsi. In order to achieve a

satisfactory result, IBL were assisted by the

companies and institutions from various

background to carry out multiple trainings and

activities such as basic life skills training, technical

training, companies visit, job placement, and

Human Resource Forum Group Discussion.

With support from JP Morgan Chase Foundation

(JPMF), International Youth Foundation (IYF) and

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) are providing job

skills and Information Technology (IT) skills training

for IT Diploma students from appointed colleges and

universities in the greater area of Jakarta. The

primary objective of this 18-months project is to

improve the employability of program‟s beneficiaries.

While the secondary objective is to improve colleges

'career centers' respond to real-time demands of

workforce.

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) with supported from

Accenture Indonesia has been conducted program Muda

Terampil Berusaha (MTB) in Karawang. This program aims

to create and assist youth entrepreneur to establish and

maintenance for sustainable of their business. The program

is in line with local government policy that encourages

economic development in Karawang through

entrepreneurship.

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) with several organisations,

such as Aliansi Desa Sejahtera and AKVO, are involving in

Empowering Youth for Work Program. It is a collaborative

youth economic empowerment which coordinated by

OXFAM. The Empower Youth for Work (EYW) project in

Indonesia aims to reduce poverty in rural coastal areas

that are prone to the impact of climate change, by

empowering youth (especially young women) to secure

viable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Citi Indonesia, through its initiative known as Citi Peka (Peduli and Berkarya) which covers a wide range

of community activities, has been collaborating with Indonesia Business Links (IBL), a non-profit

organization which promotes the concept of good corporate citizenship, in an effort to tackle

unemployment in Indonesia through a Skilled Youth program since June 2015. This Skilled Youth

program is one that seeks to develop and empower human resources of exceptional quality who are

ready to take the plunge into the work environment, either as employees or entrepreneurs.

As a revival of our past focus on environmental

sustainability, under the banner of IBL Sustainability

Initiative eXchange (IBL SIX), the organization

provides learning forums for corporation and other

business stakeholders to share ideas, best practices

and experiences on business sustainability issues

such as water, waste management, disaster risk

reduction and others as well as to discuss hot topics

such as Sustainable Development Goals.

IBL has been working with several organizations and

corporations, such as Unilever, Danone, and others,

which have similar understanding on sustainable

business practices relevant to those issues/topics.

Action Forum for Indonesia Responsible Business

Inspired by the global collective belief that multi-stakeholder

Partnership is a must to help the poor leave poverty behind,

Indonesia Business Links, advocator for Good Corporate

Citizenship since 1998, initiates a collaborative effort of

Government of Indonesia, ASEAN, NGOs and Corporations.

This collaboration intend show, beyond talks, ways in which

Partnership for Development could be built, highlights the

exigency of intergenerational approach and how to ensure

that wellbeing gains is not lost to corruption and disasters.

IBL Conferences on Social Responsibility

Every two years, IBL has been organizing international

CSR conferences since 2006, which present both

international and national perspectives on CSR

contributed by IBL's partners. Representatives from

multi-national and national companies and state owned

enterprises together with local CSR experts will discuss

and explain the challenges faced when building

partnerships for sustainable development in the

Indonesian context. Such event, typically is attended by

around 500 participants, incorporating Exhibition during

the 2 day-conference.

Tetapi agaknya terlalu dini pula menghakimi ide CSR telah gagal mencapai konsep dan praktik ideal karena sejumlah

kendala dan kelemahan itu. Pertanyaan yang dapat diajukan adalah: "Saat ini adakah konsep altrenatif lain yang

bersifat aplikatif dan terukur, yang dapat digunakan untuk mengendalikan dan menciptakan tekanan moral bersifat

massif, terhadap tingkah laku perusahaan raksasa yang menguasai hajat hidup komunitas global?" Jawabannya

adalah belum ada. Dan karenanya berkenaan dengan konsep dan praktik CSR, kita pantas optimis bahwa semua

kendala dan kelemahan yang sudah ditemukan dan diidentifikasi justru menjadi tantangan melakukan konsepsi dan

praktik CSR yang lebih ideal, berdaya, dan berhasil guna.

Nah, buku ini menawari kita langkah-langkah untuk membumikan gagasan itu: mengajak siapa saja yang sudi peduli

akan masa depan yang lebih baik untuk bahu membahu "menciptakan" bumi yang lebih nyaman ditinggali. Mari

mengkaji!

CSR Untuk Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Lokal

Kegiatan bisnis berusaha mencari keuntungan semata sudah usang. Kini tujuan keberadaan bisnis adalah tidak

hanya mencari keuntungan, tetapi melakukan sesuatu yang lebih baik dengan tujuan tidak hanya memaksimalkan

nilai bagi pemangku kepentingan, termasuk karyawan. Semenjak adanya MDGs (Millenium Development Goals),

sektor swasta makin mantap mengarahkan strategi perusahaan untuk mengarahkan CSR menuju pengentasan

kemiskinan. Seperti kita ketahui sasaran utama yang akan dicapai dalam MDGs adalah penghapusan kemiskinan

(poverty and extreme hunger eradication). Kunci utama dalam menghapuskan kemiskinan yang ekstrem menurut

Jeffrey D. Sachs adalah bagaimana memampukan mereka yang paling miskin dari yang miskin (the poorest of the

poor) untuk dapat terlibat dalam proses pembangunan.

CSR Bidang Kesehatan & Pendidikan

Perusahaan berkepentingan untuk menyelenggarakan program sosial karena dengan sendirinya akan pula

menaikkan nilai ekonomis bagi perusahaan yang bersangkutan. Untuk itu, dalam penyelenggaraan program

sosialnya, perusahaan disarankan untuk menentukan grantees (penerima bantuan) secara tepat, saling memberi

"isyarat" di antara perusahaan pemberi bantuan, berusaha untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kemudian keterampilan

penerima bantuan. Dalam konteks pengembangan kualitas SDM, peningkatan performa penerima bantuan

mengandaikan bahwa bantuan yang diberikan oleh perusahaan bukanlah derma sesaat (karitas), tetapi bantuan

berkelanjutan yang bertujuan disamping meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat, juga untuk memberdayakan

institusi penerima bantuan (capacity building). Hal ini dapat dilakukan oleh perusahaan karena pada dasarnya

perusahaan mempunyai kemampuan untuk bekerja secara langsung dengan berbagai kelompok masyarakat seperti

LSM atau organisasi masyarakat sipil (OMS) dan pemerintah setempat, dan membantu keberadaan organisasi

tersebut sehingga dapat berjalan lebih efektif.

PUBLICATION

CSR dan Pelestarian Lingkungan

Kalimat seperti "CSR bukan program sumbang-menyumbang (charity)"; "CSR merupakan kegiatan yang integratif

dalam kegiatan bisnis perusahaan" sangat sering muncul pada saat wawancara dilakukan. Ini merupakan indikasi

baik menuju kegiatan CSR yang proaktif, menunjukkan korelasi antara kegiatan CSR dan implikasinya bagi bisnis

yang sehat sudah disadari. Konteks global juga banyak mendorong dan mewarnai kegiatan CSR berdimensi

lingkungan di Indonesia.

Pemikiran mengenai CSR bahkan sudah mulai dikaitkan secara langsung untuk membantu pencapaian tujuan

Pembangunan Millenium (Millenium Development Goals-MDGs). Pemikiran yang maju dari perusahaan dalam

melaksanakan CSR ini menjadi fenomena yang menarik yang menggeser peran perusahaan sebagai institusi

berorientasi keuntungan menjadi institusi yang ikut berperan dalam menanggung beban sosial.

CSR Untuk Penguatan Kohesi Lokal

Program-program yang berhasil adalah yang memang dibutuhkan oleh masyarakat, dan karena masyarakat lebih

mengetahui apa yang mereka butuhkan, proses penyusunan program-program tersebut harus melibatkan wakil-wakil

dari masyarakat. Pelibatan ini bisa dalam berbagai bentuk maupun dengan berbagai tingkat intensitas keterlibatan

yang berbeda-beda sesuai dengan situasi spesifik yang dihadapi oleh program tersebut.

Keterkaitan antara jenis program atau kegiatan CSR dan jenis usaha bukan merupakan suatu hal yang mutlak. Bisa

saja terdapat berbagai kegiatan CSR yang sama sekali tidak terkait dengan kegiatan usaha. Namun jika terdapat

keterkaitan yang cukup erat (seperti Bogasari Baking Centers maupun Community Fiber Farms yang didukung oleh

Riaupulp) maka semangat bahwa "keberlangsungan usaha juga terkait dengan keberlangsungan sosial masyarkat

sekitar" dapat membuat kegiatan CSR terkait menjadi terasa lebih penting di mata pelaku di dalam perusahaan.

Meskipun demikian, harus dijaga agar kegiatan CSR tersebut tetap terlepas dari motif-motif keuntungan yang dapat

mengurangi nilai sosial kegiatan CSR tersebut.

Jebakan Gratifikasi

Kesadaran publik bahwa praktek korupsi adalah salah satu kendala dalam mewujudkan kemakmuran di Indonesia

telah meluas. Namun, komitmen untuk menyelesaikan dan kesungguhan untuk mencari pemecahan masalah ternyata

masih mengalami sejumlah kendala.

Buku ini merupakan panduan singkat dan praktis yang mudah dicerna dengan gaya bahasa yang popular bagi

berbagai kalangan baik pengusaha, investor, para pejabat pemerintahan maupun masyarakat awam. Acuan praktis

untuk menghindari adanya praktis-praktis bisnis yang dapat berakibat buruk bagi reputasi dan kepentingan pribadi

maupun perusahaan/organisasi. Disajikan berdasarkan rangkuman dalam sesi diskusi kelompok pada pelaksanaan

lokakarya di beberapa kota di Indonesia dengan narasumber dari Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK).

RECENT PUBLICATION

CSR WISDOM: Ragam Kepedulian Sosial dan Lingkungan Perusahaan

Seiring dengan meningkatnya kerusakan lingkungan hidup dan menyurutnya kepedulian pada sesama manusia dan

komunitas, tema Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) semakin mencuat dan menjadi tumpuan harapan banyak

pihak. Perusahaan-perusahaan di dunia beserta stakeholder-nya (pemangku kepentingan) semakin sadar akan

perlunya perilaku yang mendukung pembangunan berkelanjutan (sustainable development). Konsep CSR tersebut

sebenarnya telah muncul beberapa dekade yang lalu.

Buku ini akan menjadi pembuka seri buku-buku selanjutnya yang merangkum kearifan-kearifan yang terkandung

dalam setiap percakapan CSR Wisdom. Buku ini tidak dimaksudkan sebagai literatur sains yang didasarkan atas studi

yang mendalam, tapi mengandung beragam kearifan yang perlu diperhatikan untuk mendapatkan dampak maksimal

yang positif dari program-program CSR.

ANTI-CORRUPTION COMPLIANCE: A Guide for Mid-Sized Companies in the Oil & Gas Industry in Indonesia

Fighting corruption seems to be an uphill battle in Indonesia. While there is a broad global consensus that corruption

suppresses competition and innovation-thus hampering entrepreneurship and economic growth- countering it is a

challenge due to corruption-tainted business environments.

The Center for International Private Entreprise (CIPE) recently published Anti-Corruption Compliance: A CIPE Guide

for Mid-Sized Companies in Emerging Markets, which targets audiences largely underserved by existing resources on

anti-corruption. CIPE and Indonesia Business Links (IBL) subsequently identified a need to develop a supplemental

guide for small to mid-size suppliers of national and multinational companies in the oil and gas sector given this

sector‟s particular exposure to corruption risk.

Peran Multi-Pihak Dalam Pemberdayaan Kaum Muda Melalui Kewirausahaan

Fenomena sulitnya pekerjaan bagi pemuda bagi pemuda nampak dari semakin tingginya angka pemuda pencari

kerja. Krisis pekerjaan yang berkepanjangan juga menimbulkan kecenderungan pemuda saat ini untuk tidak dapat

selektif memilih jenis pekerjaan yang sesuai dengan keahliannya. Banyak kaum muda yang terpaksa memilih

pekerjaan paruh waktu (tidak optimal) atau bertahan pada pekerjaan yang ada, meskipun tidak sesuai dengan

keahlian yang dimiliki.

Berkarir dengan berwirausaha bukanlah menjadi pilihan utama, bahkan sangat dimungkinkan bahwa berwirausaha

tidak juga menjadi pilihan alternatif bagi pemuda Indonesia. Pengalaman yang diperoleh di beberapa negara

menunjukkan bahwa inisiatif lapangan kerja bagi kaum muda akan lebih berhasil jika mengkombinasikan berbagai

tindakan yang terkait dengan pendidiikan, pelatihan dan layanan pasar tenaga kerja termasuk dukungan untuk

memperoleh pengalaman kerja dan pengembangan kewirausahaan.
