CHARACTERISTICS OF A CHRISTIAN LEADER (Part 8) 1. Biblical, 2. Authentic, 3. Transparent, 4. Community Oriented, 5. Communicator,
6. Relational, 7. Flexible, 8. Innovator...
9. MANAGER
The daily operation of the Christian school should be the responsibility of the school leader. In order to carry out responsibilities, management skills are an important characteristic of the effective leader. Those skills include the ability to organize, set workable structures in place, plan systematically, communicate clearly and in a timely manner, and meaningfully engage with staff and stakeholders. An important skill for the effective school manager is the ability to identify his or her own strengths. For example, not every effective leader is detail oriented. Recognizing such, the effective leader will find an administrative assistant or a vice principal who has the skill and can complement and support the work of the school leader.
The effective leader will be passionate about their calling, God’s children, and education. The effective leader will have skills in educational leadership, financial planning and management, communication, and creating systems that move everything in a singular direction. The effective leader must be knowledgeable and competent in carrying out the mission of the school. Knowledge of educational leadership, student learning, best instructional practice, finance, and effective management procedures are essential. Knowledge is gained through continuing education, experience, and collaboration. The effective school leader continually seeks to improve by gaining knowledge and networking with those who are leading effectively in other Christian schools. Competency is equal to knowledge in importance. A competent leader has knowledge and skills. A competent leader is able to recognize problems and identify issues. A competent leader is skilled to discern and identify strategies to address situations which arise in timely and effective ways.
10. STRATEGIC THINKER
Those who govern Christian schools face the challenge of guiding the school to a sustainable future. The school leader is one who is able to create the roadmap and to guide the school along the pathway in the direction to which God is leading them. The leader will be able to build upon the roadmap as he or she engages key stakeholders in the strategic vision for the school. Articulating the strategic vision will be a key component to raise the funds that will be needed to carry forward the vision.

Father’s Day Breakfast
At 7:30am on Friday 1st September lots of
fathers enjoyed a bacon & egg roll with their
children.
Mr Singeorzan cooked the bacon & eggs, Mrs
Singeorzan, Mrs Bui Sutanto & her helpers set
up the hall and served all the families.
Thank you to all the fathers and special men
who attended with their families. Thanks also
to the parent group (EPG) who did all the work.
We appreciate the special morning you
provided.
Governor’s Prayer Breakfast
The Governor's prayer
breakfast was a unique
experience that I will never
forget. One of my favourite
parts was the inspiring
speech by Jason Wong, his
yellow ribbon project was
one of the most amazing
movements I have ever heard
of.
Isaac Burgis
I feel very privileged to have
been chosen to go to the
Governor’s prayer breakfast.
I thoroughly enjoyed the
morning, listening to
inspirational people! I was
very moved to see so many
Christians gather together.
Jemima Roberts
Being able to go to the
Governor’s prayer breakfast
was a great privilege,
especially hearing the
message by Jason Wong. My
favourite part of the
breakfast was hearing about
the yellow ribbon project,
and also hearing stories from
inspirational people.
Karen Cha
It was a very nice
experience at the

On Monday the Year 4 children and Miss Riddle warmly welcomed the Kindy Kangaroos into their classroom. The Year 4 children had made dioramas about the Australian Aboriginal people and the Kindy children were keen to learn as much as they could. The Kindy children walked around looking at the all the wonderful creations but mostly enjoyed talking to the Year 4 children.

The wonderful Year Threes made lots of different slices that look good. We sold them outside our class and it was fun. We were selling them because we want kids in Zambia to go to school like us. We made slices all day and the next day we sold them. Nearly everyone came. Some people made more slices at home or bought them from the shops and brought them to school to sell as well.
In class Mrs Neaves made LCMs. The we got to make them . We boiled water in the kettle, then we put the water in a big bowl. We put a smaller bowl on top of it with some marshmallows and butter in it. Then we waited for the heat of the water to transfer to the bowl with the butter and the marshmallows in to melt. We then poured the hot mixture into the Rice Bubbles then pressed the mixture into a tray.
It was fun making the slices and selling them. There were so many slices that we still had some left, so we sold them the next day with the help of some Year Six students.

Students in year 3W have had an interesting learning journey in HASS (Civics and Citizenship) and Bible. As they were learning about:
how to make a difference in the world around them
how to help others in the community
how to serve with a godly heart they were presented with a need by Miss Vallejos who told them about children who couldn’t afford to go to school in Zambia.
Students responded by examining a number of ideas before creating a solution – a fundraiser making slices to sell to the rest of the school to raise money for Eagle’s Wings, a charity which works with such families. Students
Identified the need
Created a solution
Did market research by checking who likes what kind of slices
Enlisted families to purchase ingredients and make slices
Learned customer service skills
Food handling skills
With support of class family: Mrs Neaves and 3N, Mrs Bonnie Hunt, Mrs Paweena Cha and Miss Mary Maira along with Mrs Josie
Wiegand, Mr Tim Wiegand and Mrs Tamika Wiegand, students:
cut
melted
grated and
grinded making enough slice for the whole school!
We also received a very generous donation from the darling ladies in the Girrawheen Baptist Church Craft Group – thanks so much ladies – your $30 helped purchase our ingredients. Also Woolworths Alexander Heights kindly gave $30 in a gift card for ingredients! Thanks Declan!
The Eagle’s Wings Slice
Sale earned $420 which was a cracking effort! They saw a problem and responded with the eyes of Christ. With the help of year 6 selling leftovers, funds raised came to $561.10!! Congratulations on a job well done!

The Year Five Colonial Picnic
It was the second time I arrived at
school, there were olden day games
set out on the grass area, the games
were elastics, knuckle bones,
badminton, quoits and so much
more!
We got called by Mr Pirie to go to
the undercover area and told us the
rules for the game we were about to
play: The horse game. We had to go
on pretend horses and do a relay
and see who was the fastest team,
the orange team won.
Mr Pirie was side tracking us while
Elizabeth McCarthur (Miss Ashmore)
was getting ready to introduce
herself, she came out in a beautiful
dress with a wide brimmed hat and
lace gloves. We all had to introduce
ourselves to her.
There was also a bushranger who
tried to steal our dinner, and a
convict and soldier. The convict
escaped an was taken away to be
“flogged”
After that we finally had dinner we
had bread rolls with meat and
vegetables, we also tried Kangaroo
Burgers. When everybody finished
we did a bit of bush dancing, after
seconds of course. It was so
complicated for an easy dance! We
found it so fun!
The last thing we did for the night
was have desert, which was pavlova,
lamingtons and fresh fruit. It was
delicious!
We thanked all the helpers that
made the night happen it was a
delight!

YEAR FIVE
ASSEMBLY A few weeks ago, the Year
fives had their assembly. It
was about the Lyin’ King
not Lion King. It was when
Andrew (Main character)
lies about not bringing in
the stuff he was supposed
to bring to school or to his
friends.
It was funny, interesting
and embarrassing for lots
of the characters and some
of the teachers.
At the end there was a
video of us being animal
the wrong assembly the
lion king, and then we had
the names of the people in
the assembly. It was very
fun doing it and acting. I
felt like I could do the
whole play again.
My favourite part was
when Kevin and Johnny
turn around and talk to
each other about how
Andrew lies so many times
and Kevin’s part was “yeah,
but he didn’t even say he
was sorry”, and then the
Boy Band came on.

Year 9 trip to Edith Cowan University Joondalup
—Mrs Selby
LabRats is a
community engagement initiative for
secondary school students conducted at
Edith Cowan University's Joondalup
Campus. This annual event provides an
opportunity for students to visit the
campus and participate in several hands
-on science workshops.
This event was held on 18 September, during
school hours. The year 9 student were given
the wonderful opportunity to take part in the
LabRats program.
The students attended workshops on Speech
Pathology, Adventures in Physics and Making IT
with Science. The students were thoroughly
engaged and enjoyed every minute of it,
especially the pizza lunch.
“ECU was such a great experience. One that opens
up the mind of students and offers them an
opportunity to think about their future.”
Boston Fitch.
Spaghetti and Marshmallow tower
STEM –
Year 7
To finish term 3 in a fun and exciting way the Yr. 7 students in their STEM class had the challenge of building a tower using marshmallow and spaghetti. They soon found by trial and error that a strong tower needs a strong base. It was marshmallowy challenging.

Thunderstorm Asthma The devastating thunderstorm asthma event in Melbourne during last year’s pollen season highlighted the risk for people with underlying breathing conditions. People with asthma and hay fever were particularly vulnerable. Asthma Australia has worked closely with the authorities in Victoria and now provides a thunderstorm asthma module in their online training so school staff can be prepared for such an event should it occur in school time. You can help by ensuring your child’s Asthma Plan is up to date and the school has an in-date blue reliever puffer and spacer for them in case of an emergency.
Asthma Kids Looking for a way to help your child understand more about their asthma or about a friend with asthma? Asthma Kids is an online, interactive tool to help primary school aged children understand what it’s like to have asthma and what they can do to help. Check it out at asthmakids.org.au
