Dear Prospective Students and Families,

Now, more than ever, we need young people who are resilient in the face of change, who are innovators, who

have empathy, who do not back down out of fear. There is a new world being shaped by the coronavirus—some

will simply try to survive in this new world, while others will take this as their opportunity to make advancements

and contributions to it.

As we are all learning in this environment, things rarely go according to plan. What often makes or breaks a successful venture is the ability to adapt to changes and turn challenges into opportunities.

We’re writing to tell you about our own pivot in light of what we’re all experiencing together right now. Over

the past month, our team has worked tirelessly to create a summer experience that focuses on what’s most

important: the safety and success of our students.

Adapting to challenges is the cornerstone of the Quarter Zero experience. Amidst the challenges

we are all facing, we foresee tremendous opportunity for our next cohort of students.

We hope you’ll be a part of it.

Onward,

Josh

At Quarter Zero, we envision a world where all young people are equipped to build lives designed to achieve their fullest potential.

We do this by offering entrepreneurial experiences for high school students in the real-world

who want to create, disrupt, and thrive.

Providing on-going, post-program, support and coaching for our students is vital to how we guide them towards

finding (and defining) their own success. Whether navigating the college selection process, starting a new

venture, or trying to land that internship in college, we’re here to be your support every step of the way.

At QØ, we exist to support you on your journey for the long run, leveraging our

network of 250+ mentors and facilitators.

We hope you will join our

community of changemakers.

Are you ready to accelerate your journey?

These unprecedented times call for unprecedented efforts to innovate, move forward

and change the world for the better.

Quarter Zero provides a best-in-class immersive experience for young people. This summer is no different.

We are excited to announce our first-ever entrepreneurial experience that combines Virtual Reality with online learning technologies.

Students can choose from two Virtual Reality Hybrids, our 50-day Catapult Incubator or

10-day Startup Camp, which start in June and July, respectively.

Additionally, students can still participate in our internationally awarded best-in-class immersive summer

program at the QØ Headquarters through our Quarter Zero IRL (In Real Life) program in August.

Let’s dive into more of what this will look like this summer.

5 BASICS OF THE VR HYBRID

Masterclasses - 15 mins max (no long professor lectures)• As with all our programs, we have real entrepreneurs teach our courses. We don’t believe in long-

lectures or having professors with minimal startup experience teach. Our masterclasses are designed to specifically focus on one core concept, each with immediate next steps for integrating.

• Delivery: Masterclasses will be a mix of live Zoom classes, VR auditorium talks, QØ animated curriculum, and recorded production videos.

Immediate Action and Integration (no business plans)• After each masterclass, teams work to integrate the core concepts just discussed into

their venture idea.• Delivery: Teams will be set up in VR teams with QØ facilitators and mentors working

with each group providing a custom engagement and experience.

Learn from real customers (no mock simulations)• By leveraging the QØ community along with students’ own networks, each team will conduct

customer interviews virtually with individuals to gain valuable insights and feedback for the problem they are solving and approach with their prototype.

Advisor/Mentors (expert guidance throughout)• There are no answers in the back of the book of entrepreneurship, and having someone who is

experienced with launching a venture is invaluable. QØ has over 250 specialists and advisors in our community and we pair each team with a Community Team Member (CTM) or working professional to serve as a team advisor throughout the engagement.

Community (your network is everything)• With over 700 students from 40 states and 15 countries, the most powerful asset at QØ is our

community of alumni students, parents, and advisors. While the program may be virtual, the level of individual engagement is significant and will provide the foundation for lasting friendships that will continue to grow over time.

The Virtual Reality Simulator We couldn’t be more excited to bring to you an absolute first in our history and in the history of teen startup experiences - a virtu-al reality simulator that helps you undergo real-world scenarios online! Work with your teams, build canvases, conduct customer inter-views - all through this interactive platform that will make you forget that you’re at home!

Live Virtual Workshops/Masterclasses Just as in our in-person experiences historically, our facilitators will conduct regular masterclasses during the program dates to instruct participants on the key components of the First 50 Days, troubleshoot problems and questions, develop ideas and hypothe-ses, as well as provide guidance on how to proceed remotely every step of the way. This will be done through an online meeting platform.

Dedicated Team Mentors Our Community Team Mentors (CTMs) are the backbone of our programs - whether in-person or remote. They are young leaders with unique, high quality entrepreneurial and team leadership experiences of their own who will be there to facilitate during breakout sessions, offline team meetings, advisor meetings and just about any way they can be there for their teams.

Industry Expert Advisors/Specialists A beloved part of our programs is the Fireside Chat - where we bring in founders, CEOs, CFOs, and investors to share with us their own journeys, and to answer all our questions. This will take place on specific days throughout the programming timeline in the form of live webinars with storytelling and Q&A (Catapult only). Just as in our traditional programs, we will connect teams with industry experts from the worlds of entrepreneurship, venture cap-ital, consulting, banking, design, etc. to provide you with expertise specific to your teams and your core problem’s needs.

The First 50 Days Toolkit The First 50 Days Toolkit walks entrepreneurs through the stages of developing their own venture in just 50 days. Each week includes a different theme, complete with practice exercises, toolkit activities, reflection prompts, and quizzes to test for comprehension. The toolkit and its various activities can be done in a linear manner (for 50 straight days), or you can choose to jump to whatever is most relevant to you.

The First 50 Days Handbook Written by our award-winning Chief Educator-in-Residence Martha Rush, this book encapsulates her experience as a teacher, entrepreneur and entrepreneurship teacher to provide a handbook to young founders and their educators alike on how to build their venture from scratch! With inputs by experts at Quarter Zero, this handbook is a must-have in every school library, teen bookshelf, and teachers’ lounge. Learn more about the author here.

Animated Video Content Test key assumptions; pivot or proceed; get customers (even one!) - these are all easier said than done. Created exclusively for QØ, our new animated video series provides fun, simple, yet comprehensive insights into some of the most unique challenges faced by high-school entrepreneurs, and how to solve them!

Phase Guides Navigating through all the resources that QØ offers, along with all the other stuff you can look up on the internet can be over-whelming, but we’re with you every step of the way. Phase guides will help teams maneuver through each step of the journey - from problem generation to storytelling - in an easy-to-follow format.

Micah was a driven 17-year-old looking to gain real-world experience as he joined our very first cohort of 33 students from 19 states working on 8 startups.

His experience at QØ was profound and shifted his mindset as he went off to Cornell University, where he focused on solving problems in the hospitality industry.

He took the entrepreneurial mindset that he honed at Quarter Zero and, during his second year, created a company called MaidBot, that builds robotic vacuum cleaners for hotels.

Two years later, MaidBot was the first robotics company ever approved by the hospitality industry.

In 2017, QØ invested in Micah and his company.

In 2018, Micah was named a Theil Fellow.

In 2019, the QØ Angel Network invested $1,000,000 in his venture.

Today, MaidBot has working projects with all the major hotel chains and is a lead Champion for QØ.
