We share your pride and wish you all the best as you embark on the next chapter of your life. Wherever life takes you next, and whatever you decide to do, you remain a valued member of our diverse international community.

In the 91 years since we first opened our doors to students, the University and the experience of students studying here may have changed significantly, but as we grow and develop, the heart of our story remains the same: it is the story of the people who have lived, worked and learned with us. That story does not end when you step up onto the stage to accept your degree certificate. We are immensely proud of those who graduate from the University of Hull, and as your story continues, we want to continue sharing and shouting about your successes and achievements.

Those you studied alongside, learned from and lived and socialised with, all share the University of Hull experience with you. In the Hull Alumni Association, we know how valuable that is. That’s why we work hard to build a network that you automatically join at graduation, so that you can keep in touch with the University and make connections with our global network of almost 150,000 alumni, all of whom share that University of Hull connection.

We want to make sure that there is a network of Hull alumni waiting to help and support each other, no matter where you are on the professional ladder, so that you can build the networks and relationships that help you to get ahead. We can help you meet alumni working in the industries you are interested in, put you in contact with people who can help you get a foot in the door at the company you want to work for, or simply get you connected with people who can give you practical advice on how to take your next big step.

And when you’ve achieved something big, be sure to tell us about it, because we’d love to include it in our bulletin and let our alumni community know, so that we can all share in our pride at each other’s successes.

Now that you’ve completed your studies you may be contemplating the next step in your career, or wondering what happens next. Who better to turn to for guidance and advice than someone who shares your experience of having studied at Hull and who has already started down the career path you want to follow?

As a graduate of the University of Hull, you will have lifelong access to our Career’s Service, which means that no matter where you are in your career journey, there’s always somewhere you can turn for advice. In addition, you also now have access to our HullAlumniConnects.me platform, where you can connect with almost 6000 fellow Hull Alumni, over half of whom have indicated that they are willing to offer careers advice. That might include being a mentor or offering an internship, but it might also be something as simple as offering to look over your CV or job application and give a few useful pointers.

Leaving university can be a time of great hope, optimism and exciting ideas. But it can also be a little daunting, and that’s alright. You are not alone. All of us have experienced doubt, uncertainty, or have experienced times when we simply don’t know what the best thing to do is. Whatever your question, there are over 3,000 alumni who might be able to help you find a solution.

Many of you will have invested time and effort in developing your employability skills and planning the next step in your career. You might have attended careers events on campus and received support, advice and guidance from staff within the Careers Service. Some of you may still be uncertain about your immediate career goals and how to achieve them, and will benefit from support available from our staff over the coming weeks and months. Regardless of your situation, the Careers Service is committed to supporting you to achieve your ambitions, and you can continue to rely on us for support, advice, and guidance at any stage of your career. Unlike many universities, we do not place a time limit on this support and always look forward to hearing from you, whether in six months’ or six years’ time.

Some of you may be pursuing further study or research at the University of Hull, while others may return to the University at some point in the future, whether for further study, or – once established in your career, as a workplace mentor or a speaker at one of our career – events. We look forward to welcoming your return to the University of Hull and trust that you will maintain links with your alma mater.

We will be contacting you over the coming months to check how you are doing. We shall also be checking that your contact information is up to date in readiness for the Graduate Outcomes survey. This national survey captures information about the activities and perspectives of graduates 15 months after they finish their studies. All graduates will be asked to take part in the survey to help future students gain an insight into graduate career destinations. Your responses will also help the University to evaluate and promote our courses. The survey also has national significance as it allows policy makers, charities, journalists, researchers and others to understand the higher education sector and graduate labour market, so please complete the survey when contacted.

Today is a day for celebrating your achievement. This celebration is likely to mark the culmination of several years’ study and the start of an exciting new stage in your life, with many of you making the transition from academic study to full-time professional employment.
