Virgin Islands Caribbean Cultural Center (VICCC) is nestled within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). VICCC @UVI officially opened on November 9th, 2012 and produces, develops and institutes:
• State-of-the-art transcultural and interdisciplinary heritage education resources; degree/certification programs; conferences/symposia; academic exchanges, collaborative initiatives for students, faculty and community;
• Interdisciplinary resources for cultural exchanges, educational institutions, eco-heritage tourism developments;
• An academic, technological and artistic cultural research center arm for CLASS courses, seminars and academia enhancing the only Historically Black University and College (HBCU) in the Caribbean and a Land Grant Institution (LGI); and More!
Beyond Post IrMaria 2017, VICCC is positively journeying forward with success into becoming a premiere beacon and 21st century cultural center for UVI with regional & global linkages. “The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is deeply and authentically committed to ensuring that the unique cultures and heritages of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the wider Caribbean are researched, compiled, cultivated and disseminated broadly. The Virgin Islands Caribbean Cultural Center (VICCC) is nestled within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). The VICCC:
Creates and institutes student-centered workshops, certifiable programs, social media, seminars, conferences, academic exchanges, internships and community engagement partnerships;
Develops interdisciplinary resources for cultural exchanges, educational institutions, sustainable restoration and eco-heritage tourism developments;
Provides a holistic research environment with rare collections, archives, digital media and exhibitions of Caribbean art, history and technology supporting the University’s being the only Historically Black College & University (HBCU) and Land Grant Institution in the Caribbean that is Historically American— Uniquely Caribbean—Globally Interactive and more!
