Provincial Student Leadership Conference in Glovertown

P A G E 3 V O L U M E 2

On November 4th, a number of our Grade 9 students took part in the Take Your Kids to Work initiative by the Learning Partner-ship. Students were able to visit a number of different work loca-tions as a learning experience.

It was great to hear so many different stories and the school would like to thank parents and guardians who took the time to register their business as part of this program.

Take You Kids to Work….

All Hands on Deck 2015 from Oct 15th-18th was an opportunity for a number of our students and teacher to travel

to Glovertown, NL and take in the beautiful community and culture of Glovertown Academy.

Everyone got an opportunity to meet new friends and also learn about many new things such as Fly Tying, Knot

Making, Importance of Community Volunteering, Mental Health and Social Media to name but a few.

In addition to these sessions there was also the opportunity to listen to the keynote speaker Spencer West, who

after losing both legs from the pelvis down at the age of five, Spencer tackled challenge after challenge, learning

to navigate in a world set against those with disabilities. As a global speaker, he has captivated hundreds of thou-

sands with his keynote address, Redefining Possible.

Opportunities like this is very beneficial to our school and we are delighted with the new gained knowledge of our

group and look forward to seeing their experiences being brought forward throughout this school year.
