Party DownHere is a very rare and short article

section this issue, since I worked most ofthe two weeks pulling twelve to sixteen hourdays at the office preparing for a crazy busyJuly convention month. I did manage tomake it out the final week of the two weekswhen I enjoyed several of the Tales of theCocktail events. On Wednesday, I at-tended two Tales of the Cocktail events, thefirst at the Chicory for Absolut. It was all

about the beads, where everything wasdecorated in Mardi Gras beads includingthe bars. Tales events are so exciting, especially you get to try great unique andexotic cocktails made by bartenders fromaround the world. There were 39 countriesrepresented at the convention this year.

My company threw 28 of those events(both large and small) in five days, exhaust-ing but fun. After the Absolut Party, I at-tended the William Grant Party at the WorldWar 2 Museum. This was an eclectic eventwith different areas representing the brands. There was an eighties area with rolodexes, and big hair, a Mad Max metal area, a snowdrift area, and Orange grove area that hadthe coolest thing, the cocktails hung formthe trees and models picked them off for theguests. Each party was more elaboratethen the next.

On Friday, it was the Bacardi Party thatstole the show with an actual movie setcreated with various bars and sets, like anapothecary shop, a tailor shop, a Cubanclub a record store and an entire outdoorfestival area. There were DJs, live music, street performers, break dancers and thefinale was the 610 Stompers. It was sen-sory overload in a great way.

Saturday was all Tales all day. I spentthe day with my friend Beaux enjoying thetasting rooms at the Hotel Monteleone andthe Royal Sonesta. Liquor brands fromaround the world come and allow guests tosample cocktails made from their liquors.Talk about day drinking to the max. Thatevening, Laura and I attended the SpirtedAwards at the Sheraton which started outwith a cocktail reception, then a three coursemeal before the two dozen awards weregiven out to bars, mixologists, publicationsboth international and domestic dealingwith anything in the cocktail industry.

It was a veritable Who’s Who in theLiquor World. Next we went to NOCCA forthe after party or the Bartender’s Breakfast, which in case you were not aware is gin. There was so many gin bars set up withevery imaginable cocktail from some of thebest bars around the world. After dancingthe night away to their house DJ and con-suming copious amounts of gin, I wenthome and crashed.

Sunday was supposed to be a day ofrest but started with brunch with friends atthe wonderful Mizado on Metairie Road. Incase you do not know they have $10 bot-tomless mimosas. FYI, they lose moneywith me and my friends. Then we went toMichael Shlenker and Don Schwinn’s housefor an impromptu pool party with mixology101. Nothing says fun than having yourown tropical drink mixing station at yourparty.

Short and sweet, that concludes mytwo weeks, until next time, stay cool.

Bartender of the MonthThe LGBT Gay Scene in the Burbs is

popping! The newly revitalized Four Sea-sons has a lot of great new things happen-ing, new shows, great new renovations anda fabulous staff. This is where I havechosen my bartender for the month of Au-gust, Jeff Tuberville. Most people know himby his Facebook alias Jeff Beaverhausen. He has been with the Four Seasons for onlya few months but has become a quickfavorite with the regular bar patrons.

Jeff originally hails from Birmingham,Alabama where he must have cultivated hisSouthern charm which he exudes behindthe bar. His gentlemanly personality makeshim a winner as well as his noteworthybartending skills. This man can immedi-ately make a person feel right at home. Thismakes him such a perfect fit for one of thetop neighborhood gay establishments inthe city.

With an extensive knowledge ofmixology and a sharp wit, Jeff commands apresence when he is at work. His specialtyshot to make is a Jaeger bomb and hisfavorite drink is a white Russian. So makesure to check out Jeff in Metry at the FourSeasons located at 3229 North CausewayBoulevard.
