Violence in the Media
On average, by the time American youth is 18 they will have witnessed 200,000 violent episodes on television
alone.
Weapons appear on prime time television on an average of 9 times every hour.
Saturday morning cartoons contain 20-25 violent acts per hour. That is about 6 times as many as prime
time programs.
Cartoons are more likely to exhibit violence with humor.
66% of all television programs contain violence.
In the media, 75% of violent acts are committed without remorse, criticism, or penalty; 41% are associated with humor; 38%are committed by
attractive perpetrators; 58% involve victims who show no pain.
What is this teaching today's youth?
Gun violence in the United States.
1954: U.S overthrows democratically-elected President Arbenz of Guatemala.
200,000 civilians were killed...
1963-1975: American military kills 4 million people in Southeast Asia
September 11, 1973: U.S. stages coup in Chile.
Democratically-elected President Salvador Allende was assassinated and Dictator Augusto Pinochet was installed.
5,000 Chileans were murdered...
1980s: U.S. trains Osama Bin Laden and fellow terrorists to
kill Soviets.
CIA gives them $3 billion..
1982: U.S. provides billions of dollars in aid to Saddam Hussein for weapons to kill Iranians...
1983: The white house secretly gives Iran weapons to kill Iraqis..
1990: Iraq invades Kuwait with weapons from U.S.
1998: Clinton bombs a possible weapons factory in Sudan...
Factory turns out to be making asprin...
1991-present: American planes bomb Iraq on a weekly basis..
U.N. estimates 500,000 Iraqi children have died from bombing and sanctions...
2000-2001: U.S. gives Taliban-ruled Afghanistan
$245 million in aid.
September 11, 2001:
Osama Bin Laden uses his expert CIA training to murder
3,000 people...

In a single year 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the U.S.. (2002)
That means...1 child every 3 hours.8 children every day
More than 50 children every week
Chilldren and Gun Violence
Between 1798 and 2001 gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America.
Kids under the age of 15 being killed in the U.S is
almost 12 times higher than in 25 other countries put
together..

In one year more children and teens die from gunfire rather than
caner,influenza,asthma,and HIV/AIDS combined..
Guns in School.
It is estimated that more than 135,000 guns are
brought into U.S schools each day.
1998-1999: 3,523 students were expelled for bringing
firearms to school.
Nearly 8% of adolescents in urban junior and senior miss
at least one day of school each month because of being
scared.
