ART AND WINE - EVERYTHING IS FINE

ICE AND A SLICE - THINGS LOOKING NICE

Page 5: Vinyard X Exhibition Catalogue

'It shouldn't seem odd that this wine merchant is hosting an art exhibition.

Oddbins has been in cahoots with art since it arrived on the high street. From

the early circus style logos that were individual to every store to the

idiosyncratic styling of Ralph Steadman on everything from the posters,

brochures and wine labels themselves, Oddbins has always welcomed all

manner of colour and creativity in through its doors. Its with that in mind that

we welcome 'Vinyard X.' We're thrilled to able to showcase a variety of work by

local artists, and would like to extend our thanks to Katie Mason, Anna Frew

and all the exhibitors for bringing this together. Enjoy the show and join us in

raising a glass to Chorlton Arts Festival. Cheers.'

David, Manager at Oddbins, Chorlton.

LUCY RIDGES

My portraiture sits somewhere between unconventional portraiture and staged photography. The elements that most interest me are that of the surreal and nonsensical. I work with disposable ideas that stay with me for the duration of a photographic shoot, and then no longer. Revel in the depthlessness and enjoy the all encompassing air of pointlessness.

STUART FAULKNER

Stuart Faulkner is an Amazing Painter - by Shehan Murphy

Stuart Faulkner is an amazing painter, hero of the hour, Tint and tone colossus, Unrivaled in his power.Adolf Hitler looks his best,Ronnie Barker too,To see the form and color flow, the highlights and the hues.

For he is Stuart Faulkner,And his paint brush tipped with glory,Unique images abound,Like Julie Andrews looking gory.Ku Klux Klans’ play volleyball,'Neighbors’ up in flames,Everything you know and love,Re-wired to rot yer brain.

Is it real, you ask yourself?Something seems damn mental,

Another assault on your frontal lobe,Nice work; Orville Glitter has dental!

And so his fame it spreads the globe,Man, woman and child unite,Angelic in his countenance,Zeus-like in their sight. In praise they shout, out loud and proud they sing, Now they call with one accord, “Go Stuart! Be our king!”

Peaks and mountains they reach high, but Stuart reaches higher!Adonis of the artist’s art!In every style inspired!Nation after nation swells,To chant in harmony,“Ever was there an amazing painter,”“Really, Stuart Faulkner, it is he!”yeah it is, just waiting to hear back from people but im just taking action

SAMUEL ROY DANIEL BLACKMAN

“I’m runnin through these hoes like drano,

I got that devilish flow rock and roll no halo

I party rock yea! that’s the crew that I’m reppin

On the rise to the top no led in my zeppelin”

I explore the change of narrative and context in film through manipulation and distortion. I also feel that the words of LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ sums me and my art up pretty well.

KIM THOMPSON

My piece is called MEAT // FISH // POULTRY and is basically a play on the idea of the 'etiquette' of wine selection. With my garish, close-up portraits of raw meat, fish and poultry I aimed to render each dish ultimately undesirable and inedible, removing any need for purist ideas of pairing food with wine.

‘For Katie’

STEVE HOCKETT1 x 440ml bottles of Carlsblurgh Hexport

If, like Carlsblurgh and you enjoy your premium beer cold and damp, then the perfect choice has to be super cool Carlsblurgh Hexport, available on draught and served a few degrees colder than standard lagers. Carlsblurgh Hexport was the first leading premium lager to be available in Extra Cold and Damp and is as cold as the river Gjöll itself, perfect to keep you cool on a hot summer day or when watching a closely fought football match.

The stylish Carlsberg Hexport is a premium strength lager (6.66% ABV) with a refined and satisfying taste. Brewed by the old ones in Náströnd to the original Danish recipe, it has deep malty notes, a distinct dampness, sourness and bitterness and will cause the drinker no adverse effects whatsoever.

[EK!]

My work draws inspiration from Horror and Anime combining a graphic style of presentation with the use of character and the treatment of an architectural structure as a living entity. ‘Claret’ is the result of ideas provoked by the initial question ‘if you were to slice Oddbins open what would you find inside?’.

I continue to create work relating to architecture and the environment using a variety of media including illustration, film and photography to realize their ideas.

This image is one of several test photographs of a purpose made 2D model of the character The Scarecrow in a specific location.    The Scarecrow is a work in progress.    The model will be developed along with a storyline and photographed in further locations with a view to creating a short film or storybook.
