CHILDRENS MINISTRY PREPARATION DAY- recap by Laurie Cooper

A huge THANK YOU to all

    nvolved with the tremendously

    uccessful Childrens Ministry

Preparation Day held atMcKendree on Saturday, April 18.

    Twenty-six individuals involved

    with our childrens programming

    attended and received training in

our safety policy and bus driver

afety in addition to helping with

    enovations in our THRIVE area.

We are grateful to Jo and Gary

Vincent, Roberta and Joe Daws,Emily and Carter Baker, and Polly

    and Gene Thompson for

    underwriting all costs for this

    mportant day of ministry and

raining in the life of our church.

    Beginning on May 1 all

    individuals, employed or volunteer,

who work with our children or will

be having contact with ourchildren, will be asked to read the

    McKendree Childrens Safety

Policy and will be encouraged to

view the video of our training day.

    Included with the Safety Policy

will be two forms that will need to

    be completed and returned. One

    form will be the volunteer

agreement to allow the church to

conduct a criminal backgroundcheck and the other form an

    affirmation of our statement of

    faith (shown above).

It is of the utmost importance th

we continue to be obedient to th

    Lords instruction to love, prote

and instruct each child that Hesends to us. How exciting!

Please pick up a copy of the Saf

Policy the next time you are at

church. These forms are in the

church office and also at the bac

entrance on the table where the

parking stamp is kept. Turn your

forms back in to the church offic

as soon as possible. We will begfollowing up with our childrens

    workers during the second week

    May to obtain all forms.

Hip hop on the...GYM FLOOR!A rainy GMA Sunday couldnt wash out the excitement or hold back hundreds of music fans fromflooding McKendree to see the third annualPeanut Butter & Jelly Party by Kevin Sparkman

The buzz surrounding a silly namedvent called ThePeanut Butter &

Jelly Party/Hip hop on the Rooftopeached an all-time high with thehird annual version that occurredast Sunday, April 19 at McKendree

    UMCs Christian Life Center.

Even with the silly moniker, thevents creators Syntax Records of

Lemon Grove, CA take the PB&JParty and Christian hip hop veryeriously. I have intentionally not

been inviting people to the event

his year says Syntax co-founderSteve Trudeau in response to myquestion about crowd control on thepprox. 350 standing-roomapacity rooftop. I just dont wanto have to turn people away.

This year the event has reachedmore of a national audience thanver with MySpace Music jumping

on board for the second year as aponsor. Leading up to the event,

MySpace users across the globewere greeted with a PB&J bannervery time they logged on to theite. (according to alexa.com,

MySpace is consistently one of theTop-10 most visited websites in theworld)

Other notable national sponsors thisyear included Rockstar EnergyDrink (2nd year providing over,500 drinks), Gospel Music

    Association (2nd year sanctioning

he event), Microsoft Corporationdonated a Zune mp3 player to oneudience member along with free

music download cards for everyonen attendance), and Christianpparel company Not Of This

    World.

n addition to the sponsorshipxposure, CrossRockTV.com

broadcasted the event live on theirwebsite crtvlive.com. Whenspeaking with CRTV producersafter the event they mentioned thatit was one of their smoothest livebroadcasts they have featured.

Another improvement from theprevious two year history of thePB&J Party was the audio andvisual production. MaxxProductions of Franklin, TNdonated all of the tour-qualitysound, lighting, and technical

aspects of the event including set-up and tear-down crew. This was anunbelievable blessing and reallyprovided for a professionalatmosphere through and through.

I believe the Lord was looking outfor McKendree this night. I wasextremely worried about not beingable to control the crowd numberon the rooftop and He provided thesolution with an all-afternoondownpour that forced us into thegymnasium. All together, I thinkthis event drew over 500 peopleinto our CLC facility, a crowd thatfor the first time in three years, stayed for the entire show. Therooftop simply would not be able tohandle a crowd this size, but ourgym handled it beautifully - praiseGod!

I am so thankful that we were ableto host this concert again at

McKendree. Even though it istechnically a Christian musicindustry event, Syntax and thischurch has been very intentional atmarketing the PB&J Party to musicfans in the Middle TN area that caneasily make it to the event. Thegoal is to expose the message ofChrist to people who normallywouldnt come to a church for a

music related event. I am inagreement with Steve and brothSyntax co-founderTim Trudeawho have modeled this eventaround the vehicle of hip hop mand legitimizing it with househonames like MySpace and Microto bring people in to experienceJesus - even if thats not what thwere expecting.

There were two specific highligsurrounding this event for mepersonally: 1) I was touched by

Syntax artist Kabooses personatestimony given at the New Winservice that morning, and 2) all the Syntax artists/employees thacame to church Sunday morningcould not stop telling me howblessed they were by this churchAgain, praise God! Oh, and 3)yummy peanut butter & jellysandwiches! :-)

    Thank you...

Lacey and I want to thank all of our family here at McKendree church! We have been overwhelmed and humbled b

everyones kindness and support over the past several weeks. From the baby shower, to coming home from the

hospital, we have been nothing but grateful for the church community of which God has blessed us.

We are most thankful for your prayers and are so pleased to be a part of a church that places such a great emphasis

prayer. God is so good to hear and answer our prayers! It excites us to see this community growing and ministering

more people. We continually experience the benefits of living in Christian community and are anxious to share this

with everyone that we can. We love you all!
