This past weekend the Au-
gustana Men's and Women's
Volleyball Teams took on the
SAIT Trojans. Home on Fri-
day January 11th and away on
Saturday January 12th. The
women's match began prom-
isingly, teams neck and neck,
but SAIT ended up taking the
match and the women could
not take back the momentum
and were beaten in three sets.
Stefanie Zahara received
Player of the Game. The
Men's team took the Tro-
jans, who are at the top of
the league to four on Friday
night but could not take a
win. Naz received Player of
the Game. On Saturday the
women lost in three again
but felt that they had played
a better game overall. Kristy
Wade received Player of the
Game. The Men's team
won the first set against
SAIT but could not pull
through and had a couple
more shaky games before
reaching an ultimate loss.
This weekend both teams
take on Lakeland, away on
Friday, home on Saturday.

Men’s Hockey vs. Grant MacEwan
Saturday Evening in Edmon-
ton the Vikings offence kept
scoring at great pace winning
the match up 10-4. First year
North Battleford product
Boyd Wakelin led the Vikings
with a total of 5 points, as
seven different Vikings con-
tributed towards the ten goals.
Harrison Tribble had a good
weekend on the score sheet as
well and capped it off with
the nicest goal of the year for
the Vikings to date. At this
point of the season offence
has been key for the Vikings
who
find five players in the top
twenty of league scoring.
Next weekend will bring a
huge test for the men as a
home and home series with
the Sait Trojans will com-
mence. Come on out to
Encana and support the boys
as this rough rivalry contin-
ues Friday night with a 7:30
puck drop.
The 2013 portion of the sched-
ule began with a home and
home series with the Grant
MacEwan Griffins for the
men’s hockey team. Wednes-
day evening at the Encana are-
na the men’s team skated to a 5
-3 victory in front of the
Augustana faithful. First year
Viking Craig Cornelson posted
a great game netting a hat trick
leading the Vikings. The line
of Hope, Cornelson, and
Aucoin were flying in the
matchup contributing greatly to
the men’s 5 goals. The goal-
tending duties were split be-
tween Paul Kolida and Joel
Danyluk.

Both the Men’s and Wom-
en’s Basketball teams were
able to pull out a win at
home this weekend against
the Grant MacEwan Grif-
fins. The stands were packed
with fans expecting a win
and the women’s team did
not disappoint. They took on
the third place ranked Grif-
fins and beat them 70 to 66.
The women still remain
undefeated.
The men played hard
against the Grant MacE-
wan Griffens and there
hard work paid off as they
beat them 87 to 77. Lee
Dandefer lead the team
and sunk 3 after 3. He was
named player of the game.
Shane was awarded for
competing in his 100th
game in the ACAC.

VOLUME 1 ISSUE 8
Welcome back everyone; hope the holidays were full of merriness and goodwill. As we get set to embark on the second half of the ACAC season, let’s take a look back
at some of the accomplishments of the Vikings in the year 2012.
-February 10th: The men’s volleyball team clinched a playoff berth in the program’s second season with a 3-1 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Rattlers. Rookie Andrew Kaliel had an inspired performance coming off of the bench, posting 9 kills in only 2
sets.
-February 18th: A 74-70 victory over the visiting N.A.I.T. Ooks clinched third place in the North Division for the women’s basketball team. They went on to have a spirited
series against the Lethbridge Kodiaks, falling in the best of three 2-1.
-February 22nd: Due a complicated tie, the Vikings men’s basketball team had to travel to Calgary to take on S.A.I.T. in a sudden death contest to qualify for playoffs. The
Vikings rose to the challenge, routing the Trojans 80-54 and qualifying for the post-
season for the first time in coach David Drabiuk’s time here at Augustana.
-March 23rd: The Vikings hockey team won the ACAC championship, defeating the N.A.I.T. Ooks in double overtime and 3 games to 1. Dean Prpick scored the golden
goal.
-April 11th: The Vikings held their 2012 Colour Night Athletic Awards Banquet was held in the Augustana Gymnasium. Andrew Pohl and Maya Zimmerman were named
the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
-September 8th: Vikings Athletics held the first ever Vikings Wall of Fame Dinner. The
event featured some illustrious guests, including NHL Stanley Cup Champion Craig Simpson and his wife Jamie Sale, famous for her Olympic gold in pair’s figure skating, as well as NHL Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier. Inducted into the Vikings Wall of Fame were Clarence and Irvin Servold, Karel Lunde, Yvonne Visser, Dr. Garry Gibson and
the 1974-75 National Championship Hockey Team.
-October 10th: The Augustana Vikings hockey team raised their ACAC championship
banner. They followed the ceremony by defeating the Portage Voyageurs 7-2.
-October 26th: The women’s volleyball team earned their first ACAC win, defeating the Keyano Huskies 3-1. A number of team records were set; including most kills by
the team in a match and most digs by one player in a match, Kerri Alcorn with 23.
-November 24th: With a win over the N.A.I.T. Ooks to end the first half, the Au-gustana Vikings women’s basketball team went into the Christmas break undefeated
and ranked 4th in the country.
That is all for now folks. Let’s continue the momentum of 2012 into 2013.
