Vigyan Ashram Status Report Volume 33 Issue 1 Jan 2015 In this issue Annual Meeting of IBT Principals @ Shindavane Interns from Agricultural college, Dapoli joined VA Raspberi pi workshop held at D-I-Y Lab IBT @ Rangeela Balmahotsav at Dantewada A] Annual Meeting of IBT Principals Annual meeting of IBT Principals was held on 3 rd Jan at ‘Sant Yadavbaba Vidyalaya, Shindavane’. Purpose of holding meeting at Shindavane is to demonstrate model IBT setup to all schools. Shindavane school has made all efforts to make their setup close to model IBT setup. We are expecting to have minimum this kind of setup in every IBT schools. The meeting was attended by Principals of 57 IBT schools. Govt officials Dr.Suvarna Kharat (Project Director,RMSA), Mr.Shrinivas Shastry(Jt.Secretary, Education), Mr.Ghume(District Vocational officer) attended the meeting answered queries regarding new Vocational education policy for secondary schools. Issues like recognition, funding, staff etc were discussed. We have also discussed steps to be taken for improving quality of implementation. Representatives of our funding partners from Lend-a-hand-India, Praj Foundation, Suzlon foundation also participated in the discussion. We have made poster exhibit of 50 good projects made in IBT. Also made a presentation on ‘“माझे आय.बी.टी. माझा अभिमानindicating best IBT activity done in the IBT school. B] Workshop on Raspberi-Pi Raspberi Pi is a micro computer used to make various projects to control outside devices. We have organised a workshop for high school students at DIY lab from 24 th -26 th Jan. Total 23 students,2 Teachers and 3 instructors participated in this workshop. programming. There were introduced to software like Mathematica and Wolfram Alfa search engine.

Mr.Nicolas from Fab Lab, France visited the workshop and gave demonstration of prosthetic hand made

using 3D printer and arduino circuits.

C] Interns from Agriculture college, Dapoli We have offered four months internship to five (5) final year B.Tech students of Agriculture College of Engineering & Technology. They joined VA on 2nd of January for 4 months in-plant training. They will be working on following projects. Ms.Juhi Gurunath Patil : Solar Oven for biscuit making Ms.Priyanka Narasu Patil Grey Water recycling system design Ms.Sneha Dilip Bahirat Tamarind De-seeder Ms.Bhagyashri Ramesh Jalgaonkar DIY units for urban farming Ms.Shraddha Rajendra Butte-patil Recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) system design D] Update on Technology Development i) High density fish farming (RAS) experiment- Trial on Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) of HD fish farming started from January with 500 fish fingerlings with average weight of 12.4 gms. We have worked on several small projects viz. Water circulation system, making fish feed using ground-nut cake and rice husk. Deciding on water circulation rate by regularly monitoring Water quality parameters (DO & NH3 ). Ranjeet met Mr.Vivek Vishwasrao at TATA power fish hatchery unit at Lonavala on 10th Jan to get information about water quality & feed management. Dr.Arun dixit visited VA on 31st January to guide on water analysis and he is helping us in establishing small titration facility at ashram. Details are posted on www.vigyanashram.worldpress.com

ii) Farmers club activities –

DBRT students processed Amala from M/S Sonai Dairy-Agro producer Pvt Ltd. Total Amla Processed of worth Rs. – 9171.00 (62 Kg Amla Powder / 40 Kg Amla Pickle). DBRT Home & Health students dried 50 Kg of Fenugreek (Methi) to produce 5 Kg dry Methi leaves. We

are stocking this for use in summer months, when cost of fresh Methi will be high.

iii) Skills On Wheel (SOW) -

Mr. Shivaji Chaudhari (IBT instructor – Jamgaon IBT schools) and Mr.Dipak Shinde (VA alumni) were identified as USTAD for providing Motor re-winding and metal fabrication skills respectively.

These USTAD trainers will act as skill-trainers by provide on-the job training to selected candidates in their existing business set-up, whereas VA will provide course structure, content, assessment & recognition facility.

E] TIED (Praj foundation supported “Technology incubation cum entrepreneurship Development centre”) –

Rajesh & Anil completed their fellowship tenure and both are in process of starting their enterprise at their native place.

Ganesh Powar is in his 3rd month of fellowship and working on further development of Rice de-husking machine (Marketable model).

Update on Rice De-husking machine – With all modifications, we are getting maximum of 95 % de-husking recovery for Indrani

rice variety.

Dr.Suresh Patil, Dr.Vitthal Kauthale & team from BAIF, Pune, visited VA on 29th January to study Rice de-husking machine development. It has decided that, BAIF will send samples of different local rice varieties having potential of Brown rice production for testing.

Chemical Fertilizer Spraying Machine stand (S.T.P) is fabricated against the order. This attachment can be connected to motor or mounted on tractor. We can control the RPM of this STP stand and thereby control quantity and velocity of spray.

F] 26th Jan : Republic Day It was celebrated with enthusiasm. All staff and students did Shramdan. This year we repaired barbed wire compound, applied biogas slury manure and made water basins for trees plantation done near Public water supply tanks. Students and staff performed various cultural programs after flag hoisting ceremony.

G] IBT Update

i) Visit to Chikhalgaon/ Mangaon school – Yogesh, Farzana & Michael visited Loksadhana, chikhalgaon school on 14th and 15th Jan. A detailed meeting was held with Dr.Dandekar, Mrs.Renu Dandekar and IBT team at Chikhalgaon. We had discussed expectation from model IBT schools, setup, tools and teaching – learning process. Action plan were made during the meeting. We also held discussion about Entrepreneurship program for instructors. Similar meeting was held in Mangaon ashramshala with School Principal Mr.Ankush Kale and IBT team.

ii) Bijapur – Dantewada Chattisgarh Sachin visited Dantewada and Bijapur from 19th to 23rd Jan. He participated in instructors meeting at Dantewada on 20th Jan. Total 55 instructors were present in the meeting. Sachin and Rajshekhar also met District collector of Dantewada, Bijapur and Sukama to give them update about the progress of the project and support needed. iii) Rangeela Bal Mahotsav - Rangeela Balmahotsav was held at Dantewada (Chattisgarh) from 2nd –

10th Jan. All IBT schools in Dantewada put stalls of their products. They sold various products for

Rs.20,000+. Collector Dantewada Mr.Deosenapati, CEO, Govt officers, Cricketer of Indian Cricket team

Mr.Rakesh Chouhan visited IBT stall. Students also did blood group testing for 172 people including

cricketer and Collector.

iv) Yogesh gave presentation to ILFS-CSR team about IBT program on 19th Jan in Mumbai.

v) Work for arranging IBT setup in Model IBT school project is in progress.

iii) Suzlon foundation team visited Amkhel School (Nandurbar dist) on 8th Jan. They interacted with the students and saw their projects. A review meeting was conducted on 9th Jan at Chaddwel. School principals presented progress of IBT program and operational issues. Yogesh and Sachin attended budget meeting with Suzlon foundation on 27th Jan to review the status of the project and proposal for next academic year.

DBRT Activities 1) One day training program on

poultry farming was conducted on 6th Jan for 9 Self help group member of Kohinoor foundation trust.

2) DBRT exam was conducted on 8th and 9th Jan and students changed their section.

3) Agricultural activity : i) 255 kg of vermin compost was sold to farmers. Ii) Purchase 1680 pendya of jowar fodder for summer iii) Osmanabadi goat calving on 26th jan.2015 & she gave birth to one he goat. iv) Harvest 1470 pendya jowar fodder from VA’s land & made 119.37kg jowar seed from jowar corn . v) All students went to Ganesh Jadhav’s land for installing drip irrigation system.

4) Dairy : Gauri cow (Rs.822/-), Soni (Rs.487/-), Sonam (Rs.25/-), Total margin in Jan 2015 in Dairy = Rs.1284/-

5) Loss in goat farming : Rs.1802/- 6) Poultry : 379 birds , Expenses

Rs.33731/- 7) Kitchen equipments (atta kneader,

pulverizer, commercial mixer) were purchased and installed in Kitchen. Anil visited Belgaum to study smokeless chulha.

8) Workshop : DBRT students complete partition in kitchen. They also installed biogas connection in kitchen.

9) Students also constructed grey water recycling pit near staff quarters.

Balrampur – Livelihood college We entered into MOU with Balarampur (Chattisgarh) District administration to provide them technical support in conducting courses in livelihood college. First course was conducted on lather bag making from 2nd – 14th Jan. We send trainer Mr.Kolhe and he trained 10 women in bag making. They learnt to make i) Paper bag from news papers & hard sheets ii) Tiffin Box Bag iii) Tool Box Bag iv) Mini Purse v) Market Bag (Bazaar Pishvi) vi) Nursery School Bag Balarampur is a remote tribal district of Chattisgarh and there is scope for lots of development of local enterprises. Management Committee meeting Management committee meeting of VA was held at Pabal on 17th Jan. Amma, Mr.Ashok Kalbag, Mr.Vijay Kumar, Mr.Sunil Kulkarni, Mr.Mahajan, Mr.Raju bhai Gandhi, Mrs.Alpana tai were present for the meeting. Review of the kitchen construction work was undertaken. Committee also reviewed ongoing educational and technical projects. Administrative issues related to account and statutory compliances

were discussed. Now most of the issues related to transfer of maintaining account from IIE to Pabal are over. System of transferring funds to VA account is also streamlined with IIE. Fab Lab

i) Maker Fest 2015, Ahmedabad : Suhas, Pradnya and Girsh attended Maker fest on 9th and 10th January 2015 held at CEPT, Ahmadabad. They also visited CEPT Fablab.

ii) Fab Academy classes started from 28th Jan. 3 students enrolled for the course and joining video conferencing lectures from D-I-Y Lab. iii) Documentation : Suhas did documentation of following projects in D-I-Y Lab. 1) A ground water prospecting survey of J.P Naik center was conducted on 6th Jan by Dr.Suresh Pawar. There is possibility of 1000 lit/day at two locations on the premise.

2) Yogesh visited New Delhi on 13th Jan along with Vice Chancellor (Pune University) to give presentation on innovation center proposal at Pune University to Secretary- Higher education.

4) Prashant visited Nagpur-Pench to interview DBRT alumni applied for support to start their enterprises. He visited villages of 6 alumni.
