VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK – 2012 Closing Ceremony Vigilance Awareness Week has been celebrated in Bureau of Indian Standards from 29 th October to 3 rd November 2012. Shri Pankaj Agrawala, Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs, graced the closing ceremony held on 2 nd November 2012, as Chief Guest. Shri R. K. Trehan, Sc. F & Senior Director (Vigilance) welcomed the Chief Guest and the dignitaries on the dais and all the BIS officers present on the occasion. In his welcome speech, Shri Trehan highlighted the events conducted during the Vigilance Awareness Week at BIS HQ as well as at other BIS offices. He also informed the gathering regarding steps taken by Vigilance Department in bringing transparency in tendering process. Shri A. P. D. Dwivedi, Scientist ‘D’ and Vigilance Officer read out the messages received from President of India, Vice President of India, Prime Minister of India, Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) and Central Vigilance Commissioner (joint message along with both the Vigilance Commissioners) on the occasion. Shri Alok Sharma, CVO, in his address focused on streamlining the rules and procedures to remove ambiguities as well as infirmities in the system. He also emphasized on the importance of mandatory training programmes for officers at various stages of their career in BIS. Shri Sharma expressed his concern for an urgent need to formulate an appropriate training policy for officers in BIS to prepare the officers to perform their role efficiently

Closing Ceremony

Vigilance Awareness Week has been celebrated in Bureau of Indian

Standards from 29th October to 3rd November 2012. Shri Pankaj Agrawala, Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs, graced the closing ceremony held on 2nd November 2012, as Chief Guest.

Shri R. K. Trehan, Sc. F & Senior Director (Vigilance) welcomed the

Chief Guest and the dignitaries on the dais and all the BIS officers present on the occasion. In his welcome speech, Shri Trehan highlighted the events conducted during the Vigilance Awareness Week at BIS HQ as well as at other BIS offices. and without error. This will not only reduce the disciplinary cases in BIS but also bring more efficiency in the working of BIS. Shri Sharma highlighted the achievements made by Vigilance Department since January 2012.

Shri P. K. Gambhir, Scientist-G & Chief (Certification), in his

presidential address, expressed his views to be more vigilant in our activities and to create a corruption free atmosphere where we can work with free mind and without any fear and favour.

Shri Pankaj Agrawala, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs and

the Chief Guest of the Ceremony distributed the Certificate alongwith cash prize to the winners of various competitions, viz., Essay writing, Quiz and Slogan writing. Addressing the gathering, Shri Agrawala emphasized on the need to work on building the confidence of the common consumer in BIS certified products which are procured / purchased commonly by the organized consumers as well as by the common man. He mentioned that BIS officers should take this responsibility as a challenge to win over the confidence of the public.

Smt Meenal Passi, Sc. ‘E’ and Vigilance Officer delivered vote of

thanks. She thanked the Chief Guest for sparing his valuable time for this occasion. She also thanked the dignitaries on the dais, participants of the competitions, all the guests as well as the Administration Department for making the function a success. The closing ceremony was compered by Shri Mahender Datt, Sc. ‘B’, and Vigilance Officer. Winners of various competitions held at BIS, HQ, Ne w Delhi during Vigilance Awareness Week 2012
