Book Lovers we need you!

We are looking for one or two amazing parents

to help chair the Big Creek Book Fair this

year. This is a fun committee that is very

busy but only requires a two week commitment. All the books have been

ordered already. The responsibilities include helping organize the

volunteers and helping classes’ select great

books to purchase. The actual book fair is

September 30- Oct 4. There are a few days before and after that you will be needed for set up and clean up.

This is a great fundraiser for our

school and is a student favorite at Big Creek!!

Nicole Witte Amie Weldy

Big Creek 2013-14 Staff SpotlightNicole WitteNicole is coming back to Big Creek as a special Ed teacher after being gone for over a decade! She has been teaching in Florida while she was gone; her hands-on approach to learning has helped her meet the needs of students through resource and she’s also worked with students who have emotional behavioral disorders. Nicole has a psychology degree from San Diego State University, and also her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Hofstra University in NY. Welcome Nicole!

Amie WeldyThe NEO teachers have already fallen in love with Amie and all of her technology help, but the rest of you will get to work with her very soon! Amie comes to us from Otwell Middle School, and after only 2 years of teaching, she is already moving into the ITS role based on her engaging, standards-based lessons that integrated technology!

Linda HalbachWell, Linda just couldn't stay away! She retired from Big Creek in May after being an SLP for 13 years. While she was gone from Big Creek she worked with pre-school students traveling from school to school as an itinerant therapist. Sherri invited Linda back as a 49% SLP for this year and Linda couldn't be more excited to be back! Linda is a graduate of Marquette University. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Linda back to Big Creek Elementary!

Jenna ThurmondWe are so lucky that Jenna came across our path at Big Creek!  We couldn’t be more pleased with the addition of Jenna to our Kindergarten staff this week!  Jenna is a graduate of Mercer University, and has over 15 years of teaching experience in primary grades in the Metro-Atlanta area. We are definitely benefiting from her recent move to Forsyth County.  You will be amazed at the literacy instruction in her classroom, and her enthusiasm about being here is contagious!  Please help welcome Jenna to Big Creek!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB TIME!!!! Does your child love to cook? Cheer? Draw? Act?

Then these clubs are for you! We are pleased to offer After School Clubs for 4-week sessions. The clubs that will be available for this first session are found through the link to the flyer below.

Session will begin on Thursday, September 5th, and go through September 26th. Students will meet from 2:30-3:30pm here at school.

We are excited to be hosting 3 identical sessions for parents to attend – to learn all they need to know about their child’s school day!

Please join us by visiting your child’s classroom during one of these times:

1st Period – 5:30 – 6:00*

2nd Period – 6:05 – 6:35*

3rd Period – 6:40 – 7:10*

*This format for this evening is a full, 30 minute session in the teacher’s classroom and not the “drop-in” model used during our Open House! Thank you!

Mrs. Drone will be selling orange ribbons in her classroom to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). She will be attending the LLS walk in Cumming on September 28th. Ribbons will be for sale for a donation of $1 every morning. Checks can be made out to the LLS Society. Please write ‘Team Jessica’ 1216 in the ‘for’ space. You may also go online to donate or join our team at: www.lightthenight.org. Look for the donate tab, and then type in our team name – Jessica 1216.

To further improve the safety of our students and employees, the County is activating a new buzzer system at the front entrance of every elementary school in the next few days. Once the school day starts, the front door and all other doors will be locked and you will be buzzed in by the front office staff.  After visitors are buzzed into the building they will report to the front desk for their visitor badge, as usual. Thank you in advance for your patience as we implement this new procedure to our school day to further enhance the safety of our school.

HELPFUL REMINDERS To ensure the safety of our students – no students should enter the building any earlier

than 7:10 a.m. PLEASE No transportation changes after 1:00 No check outs after 2:00 All transportation changes need to be in writing. We cannot accept emails or phone calls

for safety reasons. If you send in a note – please be sure to include your child’s first and last name and the

date as well as your teacher’s name! According to Forsyth Co. Policy – a student can only have one afternoon bus assignment. It is the Policy of Big Creek – upheld by Forsyth County – no restaurant type foods are to

be brought in by parents during the school day. When your child is absent from school, please send in a note within 5 school days.
