INTROIT

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:Who calls us to this house of prayer?

All: We hear an urgent voice crying for our presence.

Leader:Where is the sound of this voice lifted up?

All: On the peaks of our joys, on the pathways of our daily life, at

the crossroads of our choices, this cry reaches out to us.

Leader:Who is wanting us to listen?

All Wisdom wants a voice in our life; discernment longs to be heard.

Leader:How shall we listen?

All With ears open to truth made real by wisdom; with eyes open to beauty made visible by discernment; with delight that we are called by the voice of Gods Holy Spirit.

*HYMN No. 2Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

*The congregation is invited to stand

*OPENING PRAYER

God our Creator,

you have made us one with this earth,

to tend it and to bring forth fruit;

may we so respect and cherish

all that has life from you,

that we may share in the labor of all creation

to give birth to your hidden glory,

through Jesus Christ, Amen.

*THE LORDS PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.

*GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning,

is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS Genesis 1: 1-5

At the beginning of Gods creating of the heavens and the earth, when the earth was wild and waste, darkness over the face of Ocean, rushing-spirit of God hovering over the face of the waters - God said, Let there be light! And there was light. God saw the light: that it was good. God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light: Day! and the darkness he called: Night! There was setting, there was dawning: one day.

Matthew 5: 14-16

You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

John 1: 5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

SERMON Blessed Beginnings: Let There be Light!

Make us earnest and true, wise and prudent, giving no just cause for offense and may thy holy peace rest upon us this day and every day throughout the coming week, sweetening our trials, cheering us in our work, and keeping us faithful to the end, through Jesus Christ our Lord. ROUND HILL COMMUNITY CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the members of the Round Hill Community Church, a self-governing, non-denominational body, seek to foster a community of faith where people of all ages and backgrounds pursue spiritual growth; where God is worshipped in Word and praised in music; where friends are made and hurts are healed. We seek to be a community where individuals commit their time and resources to education, fellowship, and to helping those in need among our Church family and in the broader world. We are a church where faith, hope, justice and love are valued, and above all, Jesus is Lord.

ROUND HILL COMMUNITY CHURCH CREED

I believe in God, the one universal Father of all mankind, revealed supremely in Jesus Christ, our Lord, and present with us to guide, comfort and inspire in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the Kingdom of God; and in the mission of the Christian Church to proclaim the Gospel to all the world, exalting the worship of the Lord our God, and laboring for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of righteousness, the reign of peace, and the realization of human brotherhood. United in Christian love, we pray and labor for the coming of the Kingdom, the triumph of righteousness and the life everlasting. Amen.

RHCC volunteers visit the Inspirica Youth Center in Stamford weekly to help with homework, make and serve snacks, and play games. New volunteers are needed! This is a wonderful and rewarding opportunity to work with children. If you would like to join us, please contact Caroline Lazzara at [email protected] or Jenny Rye at [email protected].

Les Beaux Arts Gallery is starting the fall season with an exhibit of exceptional drawings by Fereshteh Priou, master of lines and forms, entitled Keeping in Line. Priou limits subject matter to the human body expressing the purity of its soul through the simplification of line. Her style stems from the idea that among the clamor of everyday existence, one can regain harmony by reducing life to the essence of tranquility. Be sure to come and enjoy this exhibit, which will be on display through October 15.

Meditation Class will run sessions every other Thursday evening. Please check the church calendar on our website for exact dates.

Neighbor to Neighbor has identified fruit juice as their special wish list item for collection in September. Donations can be left in the food wagon located in the Narthex.

REFLECTION

Alternative images of God inspire broader and more creative interpretations of such things as life's purpose, something we tend to interpret restrictively and narrowly. Expand your understanding of God and you expand your understanding of divine purpose. Fill your understanding of God with more joyful, playful, and freeing perspectives, and realizing purpose becomes a more joyful, playful, and freeing enterprise.
