EXPERIENCE OF SENIOR LEVEL MULTILATERAL DIPLOMACY

Overall responsibility as Chair & President, 8th Forum of Minority Rights, for smooth running of the inter-governmental forum, including complex closed door meetings with national delegations.1 Also served as expert speaker in previous sessions.

Session Chair, OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting on National Minorities: Bridge Building and Integration, OSCE Headquarters, Hofburg Palace, Vienna, 10-11 November 2016.

Engagement with the diplomatic processes via the Leadership Council of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, in maintaining a “gender and human rights” focus in the framing of the Sustainable Development Goals (2012-2015).2 This involved lobbying at UN level with Ministers for Trade and the Environment, the World Bank Group and other key multilateral agencies, while building meaningful transnational networks of academics with a strong southern presence.

Engagement on behalf of the European Commission, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peoples Republic of China, with regard to the EU-China Expert and Diplomatic Dialogue on Human Rights (2002-2006).

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

DEAN, SCHOOL OF LAW & BUSINESS SCHOOL, MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY (09/2016 to date). Given resposibility for direction seting of the Middlesex University Business School in addition to the School of Law. This entails setting strategic direction-setting, development of programme, preparation for REF 2021 and overall responsibility for the two schools consisting 370 FTE, with operations in London, Dubai and Mauritius. I oversee a budget of close to £20 million per annum.

DEAN, SCHOOL OF LAW, MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY (2012 to 08/2016). Founding Dean for new faculty including Law, Social Sciences, Criminology and Sociology; overall responsibility for school strategy, curriculum development, operational issues, research, external profile, funding, international links, student experience, resource allocation, staffing. Key achievements:

(a) Built a coherent school bringing together law and the social sciences including a re-worked curriculum across Criminology, Law, Politics and Sociology;

(b) Oversaw the attraction, reruitment and funding of 30 world class academics to Middlesex. (c) Achieved school research funding targets in successive years (currently on course to meet the

£2.1 million for AY 2015-2016); (d) Research Excellence Framework result that put Law 23rd in the UK in terms of the funding

outcome of the exercise;(e) Engineered rise in first year undergraduate intake from 319 (2014-15) to 598 (2015-2016);(f) League table climb from 97th (2007) to 44th (2014) Guardian Table, with comparable

improvements in other tables.
