Philosophy of Education
Each child is a unique individual, who will have a unique experience in the
classroom. This unique individual wants to be in a caring and secure environment, where
the student will learn to grow emotionally, physically, and intellectually. I believe that
teaching is my priority and that it’s a lifestyle, as a teacher I want my students to meet
their fullest potential. As a teacher we prepare the students to be successful in life, as a
teacher we are the guides, students get the option to direct his/her learning, and having
respect towards everything and everyone.
Being educated gives people the skills and tools to navigate the world. If we
weren’t educated we wouldn’t be able to read, write, or communicate. Education helps
you gain knowledge and different points of views in life. As a teacher we are life-long
learners like our students, I choose to be life-long learner because I am curious about
many things. I believe I have to keep up with current educational tools, and because good
has never been good enough. Students need an education because school is a place where
students learn to think with and through each other. They get the chance to make sense of
discordant views. Through the people, they meet and through their own they are growing
a sense of where they fit in the scheme of things. The purpose of education in today’s
society is that education prepares students to think critically and select the opportunities
that they need in order to be successful in their chosen paths.
As a teacher we are the student's guides, we provide access information rather
than being their only source of information. Students search for knowledge is met as they
learn to find answers to their questions. In order for the students to construct knowledge,
they need the opportunity to discover for themselves to practice their skills in authentic
situations. As a teacher teaching with Bloom’s Taxonomy helps to prepare students
learning outcomes and selecting assessment tools. The lower levels support the higher
levels; the higher levels can’t function effectively without the lower levels. The higher
levels are a lot more complex. In the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, there is more
encouragement of critical thinking. In order for the students to master their learning
teachers need to break up their curriculum into a series of skills or units. Once a teacher
teachers a topic she will then evaluate her students in an understanding units. Students
who have achieved the unit go on to do enrichment activities and the students that didn’t
achieve the goal are given additional practice. When a student has ownership of the
curriculum, they are more motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to
reach their goals.
Children have greater respect to their peers and teachers and lessons taught when
they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them. Setting fair and consistent rules
initially and stating the importance of everything assigned, students are shown to be more
respectful and take importance into their work. As a teacher it is important to hear and let
the students express themselves. All students can be turned into learners it requires
quality teachers and strong school leadership. But, it also takes an acceptance of full
responsibility by all adults for success or failure of all students. All students don’t learn at
the same rate, but with different methods and strategies it is possible. Students should be
viewed as individuals who can contribute to the classrooms. When a teacher
accommodates her lesson plan it doesn’t mean to alter or lower expectations but instead
changes are made in the instructional delivery method or assessment to enable the student
to have access to the same learning and equal opportunity to demonstrate learning.
Scaffolding is a key element in teaching, as teaching we need instructional techniques to
move the students progressively towards a stronger understanding and to move into
independent learning. One size does not always fit all when it comes into teaching.
Differentiated instruction is to ensure that students learn foundational skills. Flexible
grouping and tiered activities help with differentiated instruction.
Teaching provides an opportunity for growth and learning for both the teacher and
the student. One of my hopes as an educator is to share my passion for education and to
learn with them. As a teacher I want my students to accomplish more than they thought
possible. I want to show them the importance of integrity and honor in a world that too
often shows little regard for either. As a teacher we dedicate our lives to our students,
they need to receive solid education and we need to be aware and sensitive to their
individual needs.
