Mandibular Cheek Teeth: Once again, for an extraoral image, an open mouth technique is recommended, so prepare the patient as described for maxillary cheek teeth. A standard 10 x 12 inch cassette should be placed on the mandibular arcade of interest centered on the area in question. The view is taken with a ventral oblique angle that is approximately 45° ventral to a lateral view. Aim the beam at the apices of the mandibular cheek teeth. As with the maxillary cheek teeth, focusing on the area in question in the cranial-caudal direction will give the best view to assess the periodontal ligament. White line = cassette Red arrow = beam angle
