Jess P Lim If you're going with a NGO organization, get a letter to certify. There's a counter for NGOs and you get thru customs faster. Apply for the visa online before departing. Change money before exiting Customs or at Thamel, Kathamandu. Visit Patan before you leave. Watch where you walk cos the roads are pretty terrible (pot holes, not proper roads). All the best and stay safe.20 May at 17:01 · Like · 2

Maria Maria Thank you for your advice Nitesh! Are you currently in Nepal or have recently volunteered over there? That was my concern Melinda. At present I'm hearing there is an over abundance of volunteers, almost to the point where intended help is more of hindrance. Thank you, I'll take you up on that offer4 June at 16:11 · Like

Melinda Robinson That's true, there are so many different agencies and NGO's over there and very little communication. No one really knows which group is working where and which areas still need assistance, unfortunately some of the of donations coming in too are substandard too. Their biggest needs now are help in rebuilding and counciling for what they have gone thru.5 June at 09:37 · Like · 1

Leah Walsh Margaret, are you leaving to Nepal in October? That was my original plan but I thought we couldn't!19 July at 23:47 · Like

Acacia Sarah Orf Yeah the festivals would be really cool to see. I was trying to go for 2 weeks, leaving October 5th, but they said I could only do 1 week. I didn't think 1 week would be enough time, so I'm looking into other places. Maybe November 2nd is the gap between the 2 festivals. Are you only going for 2 weeks?19 July at 23:54 · Like

Kate Roosenboom Amy Scaglione I wouldn't recommend the trek in January anyway. I went in early November and developed a bit of a chest infection on the way down. Fortunately the doctors clinics were still set up but they were closing within the next few weeks as the trekking season ends in December. It's doable throughout the year but weather conditions and lack of resources outside the season make it much harder27 July at 15:51 · Like

Kate Roosenboom Delays are quite common as there needs to be good visibility for flights to take off and land. That is the only real issue with the flight. It is however the most common starting place for the trek. The landing was quite smooth and the views flying in were stunning27 July at 15:53 · Like

Nuri Arunbiarti Moeladi Hi Ghina T. Chamoun! I took the same program on April - May. In first 4 or 5 days you'll be in Kathmandu for orientation so you can go around the city in the morning before the orientation start at 10 or 11. I brought my DSLR camera and I recommend you to bring it if you want best results of your photos and don't forget to bring extra memory cards also (well, I'm a photographer so I give you the best tips. Lol)

Try to avoid porters when you exit the airport building because they will ask you for money if they insist to help you with your belongings. Don't forget to check the currency, bring your pass photo (4x6 size) as much as you have but 3 or 4 is enough. Re-read the booklet before you go. Don't forget to bring your scarf because Kathmandu is very dusty.3 September at 10:32 · Like · 1

Dhana Borkar I am originally from india and if you have a open mind and adapt to the local environment, I think you will have fun and not go under a massive culture shock as things can be different , just like any other country. Delhi is the capital city and most locals are good with english so you are okay on the communication part, you can find small departmental stores almost everywhere and restaurants are usually open till late, watch out where you choose to eat because we dont really have a restaurant hygiene rating stuck on the doors. grin emoticon but make sure you experience the street food. Also, Indian food can be bit strong in taste, would do you good if you carried some antibiotics or other medicines along. Public transport is really cheap and you can access the metro in Delhi easily. Nov, Dec, Jan is usually winter period and it will get a bit chilly since its up north, perhaps take a couple jumpers with you. when I came from the UK my sim card did not switch to roaming and I had no way of communicating, you might want to cross check on the roaming with your service provider first so you have instant mode of communication when you land, Its amazing how something like that can make you feel secure smile emoticonLike · Reply · 29 September at 15:29Like · Reply · 29 September at 15:29

Laura Swanbrough Chitwan is cold overnight and warmer in the day. Pokhara is more of a stable temperature. Kathmandu is the highest altitude so therefore the coldest.I was in shorts in chitwan in December but just depends if you feel the hot/ cold. You can always by a warm fake north face jacket over there.Like · Reply · 6 October at 08:44

Eliza Paranthoiene Kathmandu can get really cold over december and january. If you are in the orphanage program you often start the day early. From memory it was below zero (celsius) some mornings. Buy everything there and sell it to ladies at the markets in exchange for presents for friends smile emoticonLike · Reply · 6 October at 11:01
