Working with the Chibobo Working with the Chibobo Community for over 5 years.Community for over 5 years.
Involvement began in 2003 via VIEU member Kevin Gilbert, who was working as an Australian Volunteer International in Serenje.
The need to help care for the orphans in the remote Chibobo region was brought to our attention and the Overnewton Community has been helping to care for up to 60 orphans since late 2003, working with Help Ministries Project (HMP).
Trips from Overnewton occurred in 2004, 2005 & 2007, whilst links with a local Anglican church have seen other groups also visit Chibobo.
The need to care for the whole community soon became apparent – “It takes a Village to raise a child.”
A balanced approachA balanced approach The aim is always to help the community to become
more self-sustainable, and we respond to the requests of the community (via Help Ministries Project).
