Today, in the era of advanced technology, globalization and the integration of various cultures, young people, particularly in Vietnam are changing themselves to adapt to this situation. However, they are overwhelmingly influenced and have no direction in terms of having a proper mindset and lifestyle to develop in this modern world.

Vietnam Youth Icon is a project run by AIESEC Hanoi from June to July 2013. This project aims at providing students from 16 to 22 year old an international platform to debate, to discuss about current Vietnamese youth issues and to generate initiatives as well as solutions from different perspectives. They are offered the unique opportunities to challenge and equip themselves with practical skills in terms of presenting, debating and public speaking. Besides, it encourages all the attendees and interns to boost the cross-cultural understanding through various culture exchange activities. Especially, this project gives the engaged youngsters the insight into AIESEC knowledge, values and culture.

We – the OC team of Vietnam Youth Icon 2013 create this report not only to provide the deep insight into Vietnam Youth Icon past activities but also to recommend this idea to be considered as a project of Vietnamese Youth, run by Vietnamese Youth and for Vietnamese Youth

“The reason that I selected this project is this project targeted "youth". When I searched GCDP opportunities in Myaiesec.net, most project targeted children and the job was teaching English or something to them. However, Vietnam Youth Icon was totally attractive in terms of the issue and targets. Interns could communicate and share a lot of things with yourths in Viet Nam and we also could learn from them.I think this mutual communication and sharing among youths in the world including Viet Nam is one of the most key success factors of this project.”

“I believe that indoor camp was a very well designed programme. It could integrate Vietnamese Youth into discussing and understanding the youth issues deeply besides developing social skills and forming good friendships. I feel that the things that we tried to transfer to attendees have been delivered in a special, friendly way, which makes the impact stronger.”

“Vietnam Youth Icon was a very successful project! We satisfied all our objectives and had an over lasting impact on the attendees personal, leadership and teamwork skills. There was alot of positive feedback from them and enthusiasm that shows we had an impact on them. There desire to talk and interact with us made it more rewarding.”

HOANG TUAN ANH – ORGANIZING COMMITTEE PRESIDENT

“Interns, external students and OC team have a fulfilling experience with impactful personal leadership, enhanced cross-culture understanding and meaningful relationships” As a project leader – the communicator of vision, I am fully aware of hundreds of mistakes we have made, but still dare to say that together we achieved the above “seem-to-be-unrealistic” dream. Facing all doubts and scares, finally we changed the status quo. However, this is only the beginning of the journey. How truly impactful this project is depends on how many people dare to take action after this experience. Just remember that it is good to be inspired but it is great to inspire.”

With “Vietnam Youth Icon 2013”, we are proud to bring youngsters an insight into AIESEC Core: Leadership development through Culture exchange. We are happy to see them be inspired exactly in the way we used to be in AIESEC conferences. Delivering AIESEC impact to external students is hard but possible. To some extents, we have managed to prove it in this project.
