Students protesting the bombing of Cambodia by United States

military forces, clashed with Ohio National Guardsmen on the Kent State University campus. When the Guardsmen shot and killed

four students on May 4, the Kent State Shootings became the focal point of a nation deeply divided by the Vietnam War.

Why did opposition to the war intensify?

More and more Americans oppose the war;Hawks and doves drifted farther apart. More groups

organized against the war. As the war lengthened, many Americans began to question U.S involvement. Morale declines as war wears on.

President Johnson keeps increasing the spending because of eliminating poverty, and people are like “Excuse me, why are we doing this? ” many more and more people were killed and people got angry and started to question a lot.
