Cobham’s overt and covert COFDM video

surveillance systems enable the monitoring and

recording of critical video data through non-line

of sight (NLOS) and line of sight (LOS) transmission

systems. The quality offered by these solutions

means that very high evidential standards can be

Cobham Surveillance video products are all part of

the SOLO family, offering point to point and point to

multipoint, digital wireless products and solutions.

Utilising industry compression standards,

MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (H.264) along with DVB-T

and DVB-T2 standard COFDM (Coded Orthogonal

Frequency Division Multiplex) waveforms, Cobham’s

digital SD and HD video performance is leading

the way in both the surveillance and broadcast

industries.

Cobham also recognises that, for some customers,

basic standards are not enough and that they

require industry-specific enhancements. Therefore

narrowband, ultra-narrowband, ultra low delay and

other optional software improvements have been

Bandwidth v Distance Picture Quality

Reducing bandwidth increases the range a video link will travel and gives increased spectral efficiency (more channels possible for any given amount of spectrum).

Reducing bandwidth however, decreases the bit rate and therefore the video quality is reduced.

A video link utilising H.264 coding and 1.25MHz of spectrum gives the same picture quality as 2.5MHz MPEG-4 and 2.5MHz MPEG-2.
