1. Filming Your Video… ★ Always introduce your video in the same way to create brand consistency and

increase subconscious trust. For example, we use: “Hello and welcome to your Brand Expert Tips”, or “Hello and welcome to The Brand Breakthroughs Show”, so there is complete consistency in how your videos are introduced and they know they are in the right place because it is consistent with everything you say every time. Check out our videos at www.YouTube.com/HowToBuildaBrand if you want to see how we do it J

★ Always position your camera so the lens is about 1 inch above your eye line, so

you are never looking down on your viewer. This also reduces double chin and gives you a lovely sleek jawline! Your head and shoulders should be in the shot and focus the camera so you are in the first two thirds of the shot and then you can see something of your brand or business in the final third of the background.

★ If you are recording your video using a smart phone, make sure you go into your

settings and turn them to ‘airplane mode’ so your video isn’t cut off halfway through when someone calls you. Very, very annoying when this happens!

★ Talk to the camera as if it’s your friend… you are simply having a conversation

with one person on the other end of the camera. Just because your video will be seen by many people, the interaction they are having with your video at a time is going to be on a one to one basis. Think of it as being one to one many times. It helps to print out a photo of your ideal client and stick it on your video camera so you talk to the camera as if it is that person, making it far more friendly and approachable. We also stick a post it note next to the camera lens with bullet point words on it, so we remember to include content that’s essential to the topic.

★ Keep your video tips to around 2-4 minutes max so they are quick to create and

easy for your viewers to digest. Sales videos are effective if they are between 18-45 minutes with a learning point, but on the go tips should be 2-4 minutes ideally.

★ Your call to action is as important as your content. Always end each video with a

clear call to action. Something along the lines of “If you have any further questions on this topic, please pop your comment in the box below this video and I will create another video just for you” or “If you like what we do here, visit our website www.xxxxxxxx.com for more information on xxxxxxxxxxx”.

See overleaf for tips on how to structure your content…

Page 3: Video Creation Tips… - Brand Builders · We made a video series on how to get the most out of your blog and video content, which you can watch, using the links below: ★ Blogging

2. Structuring Your Content … ★ Start with the end in mind… What is the point you want to make? What belief do

you want them to have about you/your product/your service/your company/your industry by the time they have finished watching your video? Once you know this, you can then structure your content around it to ensure you get your point across.

★ Use the www.socialoomph.com keyword tracker to give you constant ideas for content as you will see what other people are talking about on your topic all over the world and improve it by giving your own opinion on it.

★ Regularly visit your Brand Builders Club coursework notes from all the Sprints and

challenges you’ve done, as these will be full to bursting with video content ideas.

★ Ask people what questions they have around your area of expertise and use their questions to create your videos. You can even use these videos in the FAQ section of your website which is helpful and interactive for your prospects and no-one is really doing this! We asked people on Facebook what questions they have about branding and got lots of questions from people that gave us lots of content to create. We created each of them a personalised video to answer their question and posted it to Facebook and Twitter, tagging them so their network saw it as well as our own. So you would say something like “Today’s question has been sent in from (name/company/business in x sector – you don’t have to say who it is for if you want to keep identities hidden), so thank you xxxxx for asking your question about xxxxxxxx”. Then go into your content and end with a call to action.

★ Look at the latest online news, newspapers and magazines to see what is topical

right now so you can create content that is highly relevant and current.

★ Get in touch with three of your ideal customers or existing clients and ask them what would make their life easier if they had more information on a certain challenge they are having right now. Then see if you can tie it in with what you do and create them a personalised video on it that you can then use as promotional material or content for your website/membership area.

★ Look online to see what your competitors are saying. What FAQs do they have on

their websites that you can turn into videos? What questions or topics are they answering on their blogs or on social media that you can turn into videos? Use this intelligence to your advantage as it could give you a lot of extra material to build up your resource full of video content that can be repurposed many times.

★ Blogging and Vlogging Tip #10:

http://bit.ly/BloggingVloggingTipsVideo10 *In case you didn’t already know, vlogging is the term used for video logging – as in creating a video log (vlog) instead of a written log (blog). See overleaf for video equipment ideas…

3. Video Equipment Ideas… All of the filming equipment and technology we have listed below are the things that we actually own and have tested ourselves. It is not worth mentioning the things here that we have bought and didn’t like because you just really want to know what works right? Well the equipment below is absolutely brilliant, costs you very little money and works an absolute treat to create great videos that will help you to build your brand! Invest in these things and you will be creating your own brilliant high quality videos in no time at all J

We love using our iPhones to record videos (front camera) so we can see what we’re doing on screen whilst filming to make sure we are framed in the shot! We have been told the front camera is not as good as back, however it's still great quality and perfect for filming blogs/vlogs (video logs) to

go on your social media channels and website to support your content. We also use a video camera when doing a lot of filming on location. We like the Sony FDR-AX33, which is a digital 4k video camera recorder. We don't like to carry 2 devices around though, so we only use this when we are in the office or in outside locations that could be windy, as it’s perfect for recording professional home page, landing page, sales page, etc. type videos that

need to be better quality. Just make sure that whatever camera you buy (if you aren’t using your smart phone), it’s at least a 12 mega pixel camera for high quality recording and it needs to have an external mic hole for you to insert an external mic/lapel mic into. You can also get a ‘hot shoe adapter’ to attach a light or directional mic on top of the camera, which is very effective if it’s windy when you are recording.

Get yourself a 128gb 90mb/s SD card that will accept recordings at 90 megabytes per second. We forgot to order one when we got the video camera and it ate through the 32gb card we had within minutes! Just Google the term ‘SanDisk 128gb 90mb/s SD card’ and choose the best price. This will save you from running out of memory, or disrupting your flow mid recording and having to back your videos up and delete them before you can create the next one. It’s just such a pain to do it that way. Of course, if you are using your phone then you won't need to worry about an SD card :)

Use a lapel mic to enhance the sound quality of your voice and reduce background noise. We love the Movo Executive Lavalier Clip-on Interview Microphone With Secondary Mic 26amp. It can be used with your phone (with the right attachment) and your video camera. You simply pop it in the external mic port or microphone port on your phone and attach the mic to your collar,

dress, shirt or lapel. We love the splitter version as well, because it means you can interview other people and get great quality sound from both people. If you are on your own, you simply only plug one in J

Everywhere we go, we take a Large 12 inch foam grip flexible foam tripod with Phone Holder with us! It’s so handy and perfectly wraps itself around almost anything, so you really can film on the move wherever you are. It has a quick release plate that means it can comfortably hold most mobile phone devices and slip into the hot shoe adapter on your video camera. If you want it to do that, just make sure you buy the right one from Amazon or Ebay.

Get yourself a universal 50” (or taller) camera tripod that extends to whatever height you need it. We often increase the height of this tripod to its full height and then attach the Monkee Grip Tripod (see above) to the top of it to film a lot of our videos using the iPhone. Alternatively your camera or recording device should attach to the top of your tripod using the fitting it comes with. We got a great deal on our extendable Tripod using Ebay for about £8 and you will find many other good deals on Amazon. Make sure it is lightweight so it’s not too heavy for you to carry around and if it comes with a case that is even better.

Good lighting is essential and there’s really no excuse for not having good lighting because it is so cheap to invest in. We got 2 x 18 inch light rings from Amazon and they came as a whole kit, including the telescope stand that enables you to adjust the height. Having 2 enables you to create even lighting wherever you are. Make sure you choose the one that has an iPhone 7 holder with it, so it’s big enough to fit most phones.

You can pop your phone into the holder, press record and away you go. No excuses!

4. Video Editing Ideas…

We have used many different programs to edit our videos. The MacBook Pro works well with iMovie and PC Laptops work well with Camtasia or Final Cut Pro. They are much the same in getting

the look for your video that you want. These come with templates that make it easy to import your video and add your intros and outros to the front and end of your videos so they are nicely branded. They give you the ability to choose a good design template, add text and different filters that make them more interesting and create great effects. If you do want to edit your own videos using either of these programs, we have found loads of videos on YouTube that really helped us in answering our questions when we’ve needed help. Just type your question into the YouTube search bar along with the program you are using and you will most likely find the answer to your question.

Screen capturing programs are useful if you want to create training videos that taking your viewer step by step through information for visual learners. We love Screenflow and Camtasia as they are very simple to

use, but they do cost money to invest in them. There are alternative free screen capturing programs that you will find online, such as www.useloom.com which is our favourite so far. Music is important when creating your videos because it adds another element of recognition to your brand. Use the same music every time to maintain brand

consistency. We always get our royalty free music from www.istockphoto.com as we know then that we are using good quality music for about £30. Once you have downloaded it you can use it on all your videos. You can get all sorts of royalty free music from many places on the web. In fact, if you reach out to Dennis

Jansen in The Brand Builders Club, he has created a special music bundle that is only about £30 for his entire music library.

If you don’t want to make the videos yourself… The questions you should ask yourself is: “Should I be editing the videos myself when I could be focusing on creating more content that changes lives or making money? There are people who will do this for you for a relatively low cost investment, freeing you up massively to concentrate on the very things that really matter in your business. We use fiverr.com as the outsourcers we’ve used on there are very cost effective and most of the time they have been very good. Simply type www.fiverr.com in and when the search bar comes up type ‘Video Editing’ in there. You will get lots of results coming up, so take a look at their reviews and if you have a project that needs a little more than just simple editing, contact a few of them to find out

If you don’t like being in your videos, then www.animoto.com is a great online tool you can use to create effective videos that can take minutes to create once you have your content to hand. It basically takes your photos (plus you can add short 10 second videos and text), weaves it all together using one of the templates you can choose from and outputs a great little video that you can use to get more

exposure to your business. You can be very creative with this and have a lot of fun. It’s free to create up to 30 seconds of video, or you can invest around $30 to use it for 12 months and create videos as long as you like. You can pay around £219 a year to get their branding removed as well because each video comes up with their branding on the end of it otherwise.

If you want to see an example of how these videos can be used, my parents created some videos of their holiday cottages using Animoto as their marketing tool. Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vbXu-qPLr4 These videos cost her hardly anything to create. Gill simply recorded the 10-second videos on her digital camera, imported them into Animoto and used an appropriate

template to create the videos. She has made videos for a number of areas of her site now which has made her website far more effective in closing the sales because her potential customers can now see exactly what they are getting when they go to stay there. Again there are people out there who will do this for you and all you need to do is

supply them with your content and they will make the video for you. Get yourself onto www.fiverr.com and search for people who will create business videos for you for $5. We only really use fiverr for fun things like this and it really bumps up your marketing exposure for such a small amount of money. Phew, there you go… our whistle stop tour to help you create your videos! We hope these tips have helped you and please do let us know when you find something great that helps you to create your videos too. Your ideas help us to help others in a Pay It Forward kind of way J Take care, have an awesome day and we shall very much look forward to hearing about your successes along the way. Lots of love Sammy xx
