Editor SaysAfter all, a person is a person, no matter how small. This sentence

was uttered by Horton the elephant from Dr. Seuss book, Horton

hears a Who!Horton was an elephant with a big heart. One fine day, he happened

to hear a cry for help from a speck of dust. To his surprise, Horton

discovered that on the speck of dust contained a teenyweeny little

city called, Who-ville. On that teeny-weeny little city lived very teeny-

weeny little people known as the Whos. Despite many taunts and

ridicules from his friends who did not believe that living things could

live on that tiny speck of dust, Horton decided to help the inhabitantsof Who-ville. He stood by his decision because his life motto was

Afterall, a person is a person, no matter how small.

There have been many people protesting about the cruel treatments

and unjust killings of animals. Yet, too few are speaking up for those

human persons who have somehow ceased to be persons by society

because they are too unimportant, too poor, too old, too

disabledetc. Countless foetuses are being aborted. Numerousstreet children are ignored though they are physically visible. Legion

of refugees are regarded as burdens and thus left stranded. Women

and children in many places are abused. The list goes on.

Every person is human. Every person is equal. Every person should

not be discarded or seen as outcast just because that person is

different or seen as unimportant from the rest.

Perhaps Horton the elephants life motto has something to teach usabout life- that a person is a person, no matter how smallno matter

the skin colourno matter the religionno matter the povertyno

matter the genderno matter the size. We are all humans.
