A safety exclusion zone of 500 metres centred on approximate position 38°16.84’ S 144°43.57’ E (WGS84) has been established, effective immediately.

Divers will be in operation by the Department of Defence

EVENT EXCLUSION ZONES

Date: On Saturday 9th, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February 2008 Details: Mariners are advised of exclusion zones for the purpose of safety on

the days and times nominated for the following events hereafter:

San Remo Channel Challenge A temporary rule change to the Marine Act 1988 will prohibit the operation of vessels from 1445 until 1530 on February 2008 in the vicinity of The Narrows for the purpose of the San Remo Channel Challenge. An exclusion zone will be enforced during this time and includes the waters of Western Port between:

(i) a line joining the northern most point of the San Remo Jetty (located approximately 38°31.185’S, 145°21.906’E WGS84) to the most south western point of the San Remo and Phillip Island road bridge (located approximately 38°31.050’S, 145°21.749’E WGS84); and

(ii) a line directly below the overhead electric power cables running approximately east and west over The Narrows between the township of San Remo and Newhaven (located between approximate positions 38°31.135’S, 145°21.699’E and 38°31.264’S, 145°21.805’E WGS84).

Phillip Island Swim Classic, Cowes A temporary rule change to the Marine Act 1988 will prohibit the operation of vessels from 1430 until 1530 on 23 February 2008 in the vicinity of Cowes Jetty for the purpose the Phillip Island Swim Classic. An exclusion zone will be enforced during this time and includes the waters of Western Port within:

(i) 300 metres seaward from the waters edge between two lines extending seaward at right angles to the shore, one line extending seaward 50 meters east of the Anderson Street boat ramp, Cowes (located approximately 38°26.982’S, 145°13.208’E WGS84) and the other line extending from and along the eastern side of the Cowes Jetty (located approximately 38°26.825’S, 145°14.363’E WGS84).

Cowes Classic Open Water Swim A temporary rule change to the Marine Act 1988 will prohibit the operation of vessels from 1515 until 1615 on 24 February 2008 in the vicinity of the Cowes Jetty for the purpose the Cowes Classic Open Water Swim at approximate position 38°26.825’S, 145°14.363’E WGS84. An exclusion zone will be enforced during this time and includes the waters of Western Port within:

(i) 300 metres to seaward from the waters edge between two lines extending to seaward at right angles to the shore, one line extending from Mussel Rock approximately 300 metres west of Cowes jetty and the other line extending from the beacon with a red triangular topmark on Erehwon Point, Phillip Island.

Hastings Festival – Victorian Outboard Club Demonstrations A temporary rule change to the Marine Act 1988 will prohibit the operation of vessels other than those participating in the Victorian Outboard Club demonstrations (an event associated with the Hastings Festival) from 1300 until 1630 on 24 February 2008 in the vicinity of the northern reaches of Hastings Bight. An exclusion zone will be enforced during this time, within the designated 5 knot speed restriction zone area set aside for the exclusive use of Victorian Outboard Club vessels engaged in the event and includes the waters of Western Port within:

(i) Hastings Bight extending north from a line commencing from the shore 80 meters north of the Hastings jetty (located approximately 38°18.43S, 145°11.87E WGS84) to a position on the shore 100 metres west of the BHP slipway (located approximately 38°18.25S, 145°12.44E WGS84) that lie.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and remain outside the exclusion zones during the nominated times.

Date: Saturday 9th February 2008 from 14.00hrs to 18.00hrs Sunday 10th February 2008 from 10.00hrs to 15.00hrs Details: Mariners are advised of an offshore powerboat race on the dates and

times nominated above.

The course will cover an approximate 300 metre wide corridor from an approximate position 200 metres offshore from the end of Bay Street Port Melbourne to an approximate position 300 metres offshore, from the end of Bay Street Brighton. The race consists of 13 laps at high speeds and marshal vessels will be in place at several locations along the course. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution in the area of the race during these times of operation and navigate with caution.

Ramp Channel, Rye, located approximately 38°22.108’S 144°49.272’E (WGS84). Dredging works will be carried out by a cutter suction dredge, where all hazards to boating, including floating plant and equipment, will be marked appropriately to IALA standards. Mariners are advised to exercise caution when navigating within the channel, observe the displayed vessel markings for safe passage and allow floating plant adequate time to manoeuvre.

A 200 metre radius from a point approximately 200 metres from the eastern side of Station Pier and approximately 400 metres from shore.

Position B:

A 200 metre radius from a point approximately 200 metres from the western side of Princess Pier and approximately 400 metres from shore.

Stokehouse Restaurant in St Kilda, at approximate location 37°52.188’ S, 144°58267’ E (WGS84). The zone extending approximately 270 metres off St Kilda Beach, approximately 250 metres north of Brooks Jetty. From this point the zone will have a fallout area of 95 metre radius. The zone will be in force between 2100 hours until 2230 hours on 13 March 2008.

The exclusion zone extends approximately 300 metres directly north from the Morington Pier Head in an arc of 360° for approximately 250 metres. The exclusion zone will be in force between 2030 hours until 2200 hours.

Date: 26 January 2008 Details: Mariners are advised of a temporary exclusion zone for a

fireworks event in the vicinity east of Rye Pier, located approximately 38°21.828’ S 145°49.385’ E (WGS84). The exclusion zone extends approximately 200 metres directly east and 240 metres extending seaward from the Rye foreshore in an arc of 360° for approximately 200 metres. The exclusion zone will be in force between 2030 hours until 2200 hours.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution & remain outside the exclusion zone.

The exclusion zone extends approximately 200 metres directly north and 280 metres extending seaward from the Frankston foreshore in an arc of 360° for approximately 200 metres. the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Williamstown, located approximately 37°51.537’ S 144°54.546’ E (WGS84). The exclusion zone extends approximately 100 metres directly north of the north arm of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. From this point there is a fallout area of 100 metre radius. The exclusion zone will be in force between 2015 hours until 2145 hours.

ESTABLISHMENT OF A TEMPORARY SWING MOORING ZONE

Date: 25 January 2008 until 9 February 2008 Details: Mariners are advised of the establishment of a temporary swing

mooring zone situated either side of the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, between the Alexander Thomson Jetty and the Eastern Beach Swimming Enclosure, located at approximate positions 38°8.597’S, 144°21.797’E and 38°8.766’S, 144°22.175’E (WGS84) respectively.

The temporary swing mooring zone, accommodating 102 moorings, will be utilised for vessels involved in the Skandia Geelong Week Sailing Regatta.

The mooring sites will be marked by small white flotation

pimple buoys.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution whilst traversing in the vicinity of the temporary mooring zone.
