The old saying is you’ve got to be in it to win it
and that certainly proved to be the case around
thetracks at New South Wales during the past
week, with plenty of big-priced winners causing
upsets.
At Gosford last Tuesday night, as Ruon Roxon for
Brandy Hill trainer Mark Davidson got the cash in
race eight over 515m at massive odds of $73.20. In a
roughly contested affair, this daughter of Black
Bear Lee and Windswept notched up her second
career win in a time of 29.97.
Jilliby trainer Beverley Sandes would’ve certainly
been thankful she was in race six at Ladbrokes
Gardens on Saturday night, as her charge Spring
Stitch caused a huge upset at odds of $42.10. This
son of Spring Gun and Stitch Miss recorded his first
win since January 2018 with a lovely performance
from box two, jumping smartly and leading all the
way in 23.47.
Wentworth Park is a track that’s seen plenty of
upsets over the past couple of weeks and last night
Dandy Dale added to that list with a 30.50
performance in the last at juicy odds of $18.00.
Favourite punters looking to end the night on a high
would’ve been bitterly disappointed, as Stuart
Hazlett’s charge streaked away from the field by
three and a half lengths at the finish. This son of
Oaks Road and Champness Gal has been very
consistent in town of late, with two wins and a
second from his past five starts. On Wednesday
night, Shane Pulbrook’s Tiggerlong Eve produced an
almighty upset from box four in race nine, etching
out odds-on favourite Feral Franky by a neck in
30.67. This daughter of Kinloch Brae* and
Tiggerlong Petal returned massive odds of $31 for
brave punters courageous enough to go against the
favourite.
If you managed to pick the quinella in race two at
Dapto on Thursday night you certainly would’ve
had a smile from ear to ear, with the two outsiders of
the field finishing first and second in a shortcourse
race over 297m. Champness Miss for Patrick Daly
led all the way from box four in 17.15
returning odds of $17 for punters, while Rafi Rose
for Mario Azzopardi secured second place at
$15.00. The quinella returned $105.50 in New South
Wales.

at Horsham (27.52) and 450 metres at Warrnambool

Cool litter GOLDIE breeder, Daniel Hollywood has a nice litter of
eight pups on the list this week by the well bred, but
little known sire, Cool Effort (May 2005 Big Daddy
Cool x Token Effort).
The four dogs and four bitches in the litter are
from the well bred, handy city winner, Giddy’s Star
(May 2011 Where’s Pedro x Giddigan), whose dam is
by Puzzle Prize x Chersam Honcho (Head Honcho x
Cartland).
She was the standout in her litter of seven named,
with the six who raced all winning.

and 16 placings, winning six times over 515 metres at
Sandown (29.47), and three times over 520 metres at
Cranbourne (30.21), with single wins over 525 metres at
The Meadows (30.25), 450 metres at Ballarat (25.66)
and 460 metres at Warragul (25.97).
She has winners on file from her first two litters,
whelped in October 2014, by Fabregas then December
2015, by Kelsos Fusileer*, then whelped a litter of four
dogs and four bitches, by Primo Uno in January 2017.
One pup litter UNFORTUNATELY just the one bitch pup in Peter
Martinovic’s litter on this week’s list by highly rated US
sire, Kind Cruel Red* (April 2014 Bella Infrared x
Cruel To Be Kind), from the well bred, handy short
course winner, Gold Amy (March 2010 Bush Legend x
Little Battler) - (Black Shiraz x Sticking Stamp).

NSW News LISMORE CLOSED FOLLOWING GRNSW
CONCERNS OVER TRACK SAFETY
GRNSW
GREYHOUND Racing NSW (GRNSW) has
advised all participants that Lismore will be
closed indefinitely following an inordinate
number of injuries at the track.
The injury toll, which GRSW said is “unacceptable”
has been a constant issue at the track and both
training and racing will not be conducted until an
investigation is conducted.
The Greyhound Racing NSW statement reads:
“GRNSW has announced that all racing and trialling
activity at the Lismore track will be suspended
pending the completion of an assessment of track
safety by an independent panel of experts.
“This decision is made as a result of unacceptably
high levels of major injuries and fatalities at the track
over the past 12 months.
“GRNSW regrets any inconvenience caused to
participants as a result of the track closure, but
greyhound welfare and safety remains GRNSW’s
key priority.”

NSW GOTBA History Special
- 19 -
NSW GOTBA Part 1 History Resulting from a Royal Commission in 1932, the
introduction of non-proprietary Greyhound
Racing in Australia commenced.
Non-proprietary meaning that Greyhound
Racing could only be conducted by clubs or
Associations with voting members and not by
individuals or private companies.
In 1936 a group of enthusiasts associated with
Greyhound Racing formed a body of owners and
trainers to gain some form of financial assistance to
ensure the existence of Greyhound Racing and from
this small beginning the NSW Greyhound Breeders,
Owners & Trainers' Association Limited was
formed.
The Association was incorporated as a Company
on July 31, 1939. The then Secretary was to select
and engage an organiser to move among owners,
trainers and breeders and join them together as a
united body with the instruction to form branches
and district associations to enable the Association to
serve the whole of the State of NSW. It does this
today with seven districts and thirty branches, with
some 1,200 members actively involved in the
Greyhound Racing Industry.
In 1939 the first Memorandum and Articles of
Association were drawn up and registered. The aims
and objectives of the Association were set out and
there have been few changes since that time. Pages
3, 4, 5 and 6 of the current Articles outline these
objectives.
Ten Directors are elected by the members
themselves by way of a postal ballot. These ten
Directors manage the Association’s affairs and
finances. Districts the Directors represent are:
Metropolitan (3 Directors), Newcastle and Hunter
River (2 Directors), the other Districts having one
Director each and are: South Coast and Southern
Tablelands, Northern Rivers, Western, North and
North Western and Riverina.
In 1948 the Association petitioned the Government
to allow the Association to hold the licence for
Greyhound Racing at Harold Park and following the
introduction of night trotting, the then current
licence holder, The NSW Trotting Club (as it was
then known) relinquished the licence to the
Association and the two bodies, until September
1987, conducted their own sport at Harold Park. The
success of the Association’s operations at Harold
Park is well documented and until Greyhound
Racing ceased there in 1987, the track was
considered the premier track in Australia.
In 1959 the Association purchased land and a
factory at North Rocks in NSW where it designed
and built greyhound race and trial track equipment
for the Australian and overseas market.
The factory proved a worthy asset as it did much to
ensure the continuation of Greyhound Racing. In
the1960’s many trial tracks were closing down as
the land on which they were built was becoming
much sought after by developers for housing. The
Association realising the danger to Greyhound
Racing if trial track facilities were not available to
owners and trainers, encouraged new proprietors to
secure land and offered the services of its factory to
advise and supply equipment at a minimal cost. The
factory was eventually sold in the late seventies.
From that small beginning in 1936, the Association
currently owns the land and holds licences to race at
Temora (1953), Lismore (1954), Appin (1967),
Bathurst (2003) and Gunnedah (2003). It also owns
the land on which the Muswellbrook Club is
situated.
The Association also holds the licence to race at
Wentworth Park, Bulli, Gosford and Maitland.
In 1992, the Association purchased a property at
Lidcombe which it had rebuilt and re-furbished for
the Registered Offices of the Association.
In 2010 the Association moved to the 2nd Floor of
the Wentworth Park Grandstand and that location is
now the Association's Registered Office.
The Lidcombe property is currently being rented.

Australia Day racing at Sale
This Australia Day, the Sale
Greyhound Racing Club will
be hosting a superb evening
of entertainment with great
food, music and exciting greyhound races.
Over the past two years, the Traralgon Cup has been
hosted on Australia Day as part of the Gippsland
Carnival; however, this year, the Country Cup has been
postponed due to drainage issues that have
compromised the safety of the Traralgon track.
Since the Traralgon track is closed until further
notice, the Sale Greyhound Racing Club stepped up to
host the Australia Day meeting and are promising a
fantastic evening not to be missed!
The meeting will include a GDR special race
event, two VICGREY races and the Sale to Sandown
Grade 5 heats.
To celebrate Australia Day, there will be a free
Sausage Sizzle and lots of Aussie fun, including a prize
for the best Aussie outfit.
You can look forward to entertainment for the
whole family with free kids activities, food trucks,
bars, and a live DJ playing music all night.
There will also be a meet and greet with former

Records fall at GAP three-day Adoption event
A new record for the number of greyhounds
adopted at a single event has fallen with 111
greyhounds finding new homes at the Greyhound
Adoption Program’s three-day adoption event at
Seymour (January 18-20).
After 70 of the 115 greyhounds up for adoption found
homes on Friday, a further 41 went home with their
new families on Saturday.
This brought the total number of greyhounds
adopted across the weekend to 111, surpassing the
record set last year of 103.
Due to the overwhelming response, the planned
Sunday event (January 20) has been cancelled,
however, GAP staff will still be on hand to assist
potential adopters.
This year, for the first time, GAP waived the $75
adoption fee for the adoption event.
GRV Deputy Chair Peita Duncan said it was no
surprise that the record was broken.
“This just shows the love affair the Victorian public
has with the greyhound breed,” Ms Duncan said.
“The secret is out and there are now thousands of
greyhounds in homes and apartments right across the
State.
“The most pleasing thing about the weekend is we
have found loving homes for more than 100 of our
beautiful greyhounds.
“I’m sure all the people who have taken home
greyhounds this weekend will join me in saying well
done again to our GAP staff who have matched them
with their new family member.”
If you would like to find out more information
about the adopting a greyhound please contact GAP
on 03 5799 0166.

Elation the Riddle for Ellul By Jason Adams
Paul Ellul experienced his biggest thrill in more
than a decade last night as his own Riddles claimed
a city win at Sandown Park.
Riddles, with Paul Elul (right), Darren Bridges (centre) and
Gary Armstrong (left)
It was Ellul’s first city win in two decades and it comes
at exactly the right time after a run of hard luck away
from the track.
“You feel down in the dumps then something
like this happens. Over the last three months there’s
been things breaking down around the house. You ask
yourself when is this all gonna stop? After last night I
think it has turned around,” said a proud Ellul.
“It’s been a lot of years since I’ve had a winner on a
Thursday night. They don’t come around often as a
hobby trainer, it’s a great feeling.”
Ellul has spent the majority of his life working as
a painter and has done many hours touching up some
of the paintwork at Sandown Park.
“You win a race in the country and it’s great, but to
win one at Sandown, a place I have done some work at
and grew up around, it’s a really big buzz.”
Training greyhounds has been something Ellul
has done since his late teens, his passion for the breed
developed while growing up around the Springvale
area, with a social outing to Sandown Park every
Thursday night the norm.
“I used to live on View Road, my mates an I used to
rock up every Thursday night, back then that was
payday so we went out to have a bit of fun.”
Over his many years training greyhounds, he has
never had more than three at one time. Although he’s
been in the care of some with good ability, none have
boasted the promise that Riddles is showing.
Ellul purchased him from Queensland when he
was 9 months of age and it didn’t take long for ‘Bluey’
to be sent down to his new Noble Park home.
“I bought him off Steve McDermott, he had a photo on
Greyhound Data of four pups though was only selling
one. I liked the breeding and told him I want to buy the
blue dog.
“I broke him (Riddles) in at Sandown and to be honest
early on he didn’t go that well, but with time he
continued to improve. He’s no champion but handy
ones like him don’t come around all the time.
“I’ve had a couple of blokes ask if I’d be interested in
selling Bluey. I’ve been in racing a long time, when
you come across one like him, it’s purely about the
thrill and excitement.”
Riddles celebrates his 2nd birthday next
Wednesday and is shaping up as the perfect type to
contest April’s $432,000 Launching Pad series.
“During kennelling Jason Ireland told me he might be
a good dog for the Launching Pad, I said ‘what are ya
talking about?’ But after last night it looks a real
possibility.

Warmer Weather
Finally some warmer weather in Victoria.
But irrespective of where you live be mindful
when walking your greyhounds that they may
take some time to adjust to the heat
Greyhounds traditionally don’t like walking in
temperatures above 25 degrees so:
Ditch the coats
Keep the walks shorter until they adjust
Walk earlier in cooler temperatures
Watch for signs of distress
Keep your dogs hydrated and
Make sure they have water immediately
they get home
And watch out for snakes in long grass
because they are active.

FOSTER A GREYHOUND:
There are many greyhounds who need a little more
assistance to help them settle into pet life
They fall into two categories
Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track
and need help to pass their GAP assessment
OR
Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their
GAP assessment
These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the
only difference is that need a little more help to
transition into pet life
The reality is that without foster carers some of
these dogs are at risk
If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog
contact Rebecca and join her team
