O1 AMI,LOR,

SWH

To ensure appropriate accreditation pathways for all secondary aged students.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award has been introduced to all pupils in SWI. AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS) units in English & Maths have been successfully trialled this year for pupils with PMLD. From September 2017 a 5 year rolling programme of UAS units in ‘Preparation for Leisure’ will be introduced. For MLD & SLD pupils, KS4 & KS5 will be split from September 2017 with more appropriate accreditation pathways for each. KS4 will cover mandatory subjects through entry level and BTEC qualifications. KS5 will be more vocational based and have pupil ‘options’ included. Dof E will continue alongside vocational UAS qualifications. Raza and Sue attended ‘Discover and Explore Arts Award Training’ and will run these from September 2017. Investigating Maths and English entry levels being brought into KS3.

Achieved

Higher achieving pupils are accessing qualifications at an appropriate level. PMLD/SLD - would be having a much more relevant engaging programme. KS3 - Improved baseline for HAPs pupil for entry to 14-19.

O2 AMI,LOR

To extend the range of work related opportunities for students.

Two pupils completed work experience with Birmingham City Council and one more is planned for this year. 4 pupils completed 6 week internal placements with pupils choosing where to complete work experience (physio, EYs, office, caretakers). These 4 pupils are now completing 6 week external placements under supervision (Just for Pets, Lickey Hills Park Rangers x2, Meadow Rose Retirement Home). Work experience will form part of new KS5 curriculum and be accredited through UAS.

Achieved

Greater understanding of the workplace environment and options beyond school. Developing self esteem. Gives them a chance to apply their skills outside of school. Raised parents expectations and their child’s future. Pupils are able to make informed choices.

O3 SFA,MH

Team, KT,

Physios

To work with families and professionals to ensure that physical programmes are implemented at home and in school.

Review of pupils shared goals shows most pupils have a target working on their physical development, agreed with families at parents evening. The sharing of the shared goals and the reviewing of the shared goals with parents on the two parents evenings has meant they have been more involved and have had much more of a say that has been worked on. There has been an increase of the amount of training from the physio staff.

Achieved

There has been an increase of parents coming in to work with physio programmes within the school day. More regular targeted interventions, impacting on physical development. Kate Thompson had worked with parents to give them greater access to appropriate services in relation to their child’s physical needs at home. Pupils physical postural wellbeing is supported to leading to better outcomes.

O5 HMU,JHJ,

SMT

To develop sensory profiles for identified pupils.

All teaching staff and PCAs have had training on sensory development, function and impairment. An audit to identify pupils with sensory impairments or concerns has been completed. The sensory support team from the MSI Unit are currently assessing and working with the classes of the named children. Hearing aid maintenance kits have been provided for staff in appropriate classes. Where appropriate, sensory information on Communication Profiles has been amended to increase accuracy and practical use. Jacqui Hanna-Jones has visited several children to advise class staff on sensory processing strategies.

Achieved

Separate sensory profiles considered as an option but rejected in favour of improving quality of ‘Vision’ ‘Hearing’ and ’Touch’ sections of Communication Profiles - this has been achieved where appropriate and will be ongoing as pupils’ needs change. Staff are more confident in meeting the needs of children with sensory profiles.
