What is SWL?• Largest multicultural student organization at Old

Dominion University • Founded at ODU in 2007• Mission: Improve the college experience through

professional development, community service, family ordinated bonding and social networking to develop future leaders of America.

Leadership & Teamwork • 250 members at

several different universities in Virginia

• Members consist of undergraduate and graduate students, Freshmen to Seniors

• Many members stay involved in some fashion from freshmen year and after graduation.

• SWL provides a platform that fosters social impact while simultaneously forging lasting positive inter-peer bonds among its members

Why Starting Bloc Now????

--This fellowship will help me to concentrate my strivings for SWL in a focused and potent way

--Being a recent graduate gives me the ability to still relate to the struggles of college students and give a recent graduate’s perspective on issues

--The ideals of social entrepreneurship have the potential to catalyze the growth and impact of SWL

Strivings of A Passionate Activist • I plan to learn from the brightest minds around the

world and enlighten my members with the same wealth of knowledge I obtain at StartingBloc to accomplish long lasting change

• Disseminating the lessons learned from SB to members will greatly increase the impact of my Staring Bloc experience

• Attending StartingBloc will allow me to be the catalyst that unlocks the potential of the future social innovators of SWL

Self Improvement • I’ve made the decision to apply to Starting Bloc

Fellowship to become more enlightened about social entrepreneurship and the positive effects it will have on SWL.

• I plan to utilize my knowledge to further advance SWL beyond its current successes

• If accepted, I will put my all into this opportunity, learn as much as possible, and add value to the SB community in a myriad of ways
