BCMS has accelerated programs at each grade level for Math and ELA, as well as

resource, inclusion and self contained special education classes. There are 42 certified teachers at

BCMS and 10 other support staff members. The teacher student ratio is 11:6.

BCMS did not meet AYP. The summary report stated the following:

BCMS met AYP for the test participation.

BCMS met the AYP criteria in 11 out of 12 categories. BCMS met the AYP criteria for the second indicator. BCMS did not meet AYP for academic performance.

BCMS mission statement is to provide excellent educational experiences today, for

tomorrows success. At BCMS we expect excellence from all of our students. For the 2013-2014school year, Bleckley County Middle School as well as the other schools in Bleckley County

received Accredited with Quality status from the Georgia Accrediting Commission, INC.

BCMS is a Title I School. BCMS has a partnership with the local Communities in Schools

Organization who provides mentoring program and other valuable resources. BCMS provides

afterschool tutoring through the 21st Century Grant for all grade levels. BCMS has been awarded

a Literacy Grant.

The school media center is located in a central location in the front of the school building.

It is approximately 2200 square feet and serves each grade level throughout the day. We have a

wide variety of books for students to check out. About half of the traffic each day is students

taking Accelerated Reader Tests (AR). The other half is checking out AR books to reach their

assigned goals for each nine weeks. There is a computer lab enclosed as an adjoining room. A

teacher resource room is located in the media center as well. This room is where teachers take

things to be laminated; the dye cut machine, a storage room, and a conference room. There is a

large area with 6 tables and 6 cubicals. Our media center has a "Reading Spot" with 2 cafe style

tables with 4 stools and 4 cozy chairs. The media center is equipped with an NComputing lab as

well as 5 additional computers that students may look up books in our card catalog or take an

Accelerated Reader test. There is a school supply machine in the media center. Pencils, pens,

and paper are available in this machine.

Stephanie VickersPurpose: Bleckley County Middle Schools Media Centers purpose is to do the utmost to assist

students in becoming critical thinkers and information seekers.

Access: The media center is open during school hours (7:303:15) for students to check out

books. Students may checkout 2 library materials at a time. Books are checked out for a 2 week

time period. Books are renewable. Overdue books are 10 cents per day. Students may also

checkout magazines overnight. Overdue magazines are 25 cents per day that they are overdue.

Climate: BCMS media center has a warm and welcoming environment. The media specialist

has created a great bond with the students. This bond allows the students to confide in her often.

Community: BCMS media center interacts with the community in the following ways:

Donate books to the Bleckley County Fiends of the Library Organization. Creates a place for mentors to meet. Raise money for Jays Hope Relay for Life Collects Pop Tabs for the Ronald Mc Donald House

School Library Mission Statement:

The mission of BCMS Media Center is to develop lifelong readers.
