Background Details • Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine founded by producer

Quincy Jones. The publication mostly features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers. Vibe which was at first owned by the Bauer media company, shut down due to the lack of funds being invested in the company. During the summer of 2009 the magazine was sold to the InterMedia Partners and is now issued every-other month with double covers, with a larger online presence. The magazine's target audience is mostly made out of young, urban followers of the hip-hop culture. As of April 2013 Vibe is now owned by Spin Media.

• Firstly published in 1973, The magazine owed its success to featuring a broader range of interests than its closest competitors The Source and XXL; which focus more narrowly on rap music, or the rock & pop-centric.

• Vibe Magazine is known for their creative direction of their

covers. R&B singer Mary J. Blige repeatedly made the cover of Vibe, with countless articles following her career. Trio TLC were photographed for the cover in firefighters' gear, referencing the fact that member Left Eye burned down the house of then-boyfriend and NFL star Andre Rison. The first non-photograph cover of Vibe was an illustration of late singer Aaliyah by well known artist/illustrator Alvaro; this was Aaliyah's very first appearance on the cover as well. Other famous cover subjects are, Trey Songz, Brandy, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé etc.

Vibe Vixen• VIBE Vixen was a magazine geared towards female

readers of Vibe Magazine that covered beauty, dating, entertainment, fashion, and societal issues for "urban minded females". The magazine was initially released in the autumn of 2004, and sales were considered successful enough for the magazine to be issued every three months. VIBE Vixen folded after its August/September 2007 issue due to low circulation. Stars who graced VIBE Vixen's covers included Ciara, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kimora Lee Simmons and Kelis.

Vibe is a person's emotional state or the atmosphere of a place as communicated to and felt by others and to vibe is to enjoy oneself by listening to or dancing to popular music. The magazine is called vibe due to the rhythms and beats that are portrayed in the genre of hip hop. The melody and beat mixed with the lyrical talent that hip hop promotes can really get you moving.

Target Audience

• The target audience would be young adults and late teens varying across the age of 16 to 24. the hip hop genre seems to be for those who enjoy to party and have a good time, as well as embrace in the world of rap. The target audience are normally the same age as most artists (maybe a little younger). This is due to the amount of foul language, sexual innuendos and in some cases offensive language being used in songs
