    INTRODUCTION

In June of 2015, our Beloved Swami blessed the United States of America by ful lling the wishes of His devoteesand visi ng for the third me. This par cular visit was unique in that it was the rst me that He permi ed the

organiza on of the rst public mee ng ever held in theAmericas.

Per Swami ’s direc on, two programs were organizedfor the public in California. The rst program tookplace on the 16th of June in Sunnyvale, located in thenorthern

part of the state and one in Encinitas, located in Southern California.Devotees a ended from all over the USA and also many other countriesincluding Canada, Mexico, Argen na and Fiji. Over 800 received Him inSunnyvale and over 500 basked in the glow of our Lord in Encinitas.

Swami visited the homes ando ces of several of His devoteesand also blessed the Sathya SaiBaba Center and Bookstore with the presence of His Subtle Body. This visit

ful lled the promise He had made to Elsie Cowan in the 1970s when sheinvited Him to visit the USA.

Swami ’s entourage included Sri Narasimha Murthy, C. Sreenivas and V. Ku-mar who also spoke at each mee ng along with the organizers of the

mee ngs, Mr. Arvind Thiagarajan in Sunnyvale and Dr. David Cornsweet in Encinitas.

In addi on to the Divine Discourses of Swami and the talks of His cho-sen devotees, Bhagawan Baba also permi ed a ques on and answerperiod in each venue. His answers to the ques ons presented providednot only comfort to the ques oners, but also a deeper understanding of

    His mysteries.

Swami also declared that an Ashram will be established in Southern Cal-ifornia and that a group of scien sts, educators and medical profession-als will begin a program to establish “ideal villages ” around the world, star ng in India. These villages will have sustainable energy, educa onand healthcare provided to them free of cost by Swami.

This booklet has been prepared at the command of Bhagawan Sri Sath-ya Sai Baba and includes transcripts of His two discourses, the ques ons posed to Him and His answers, and the

talks of His chosen devotees who addressed the two gatherings. The complete collec on of discourses given pub-licly by Swami in the Subtle Body are available in the book series “Sri Sathya Sai Uvacha ”.

For those unfamiliar with the Subtle Body phenomenon of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, a short explana on follows. Thepassing of the physical form of Swami on April 24th, 2011 came as a great shock to His millions of devotees. Just 5months a er His 85th birthday celebra on, it seemed unbelievable, as Swami had said numerous mes that Hewould con nue His mission un l the age of 96.

During His physical sojourn, Swami had appeared to countless devotees all over the world in His Subtle Form.A er His physical passing, these visits con nued. As He Himself explained:

“ Everyone in this world has 4 types of bodies: Sthoola Shareera -the Physical Body; SookshmaShareera – the Subtle Body; Athi Sookshma Shareera – the higher Subtle Body; and ParaSooksma Shareera – the Omnipresent Super Subtle Body. Sthoola Shareera is the physicalbody which anyone can see. Now, I am not in the physical body but in the SookshmaShareera (the Subtle Body) which is beyond the physical. In My Sookshma Shareera I canmove to any part of the world without taking any me. In My Athi Sookshma Shareera I en-ter the dreams and medita ons of people and guide them. In the Para Sookshma Shareera, I

am present in every atom. At this point in me, you are in the Physical Body. If you are in aroom, you cannot see what is outside since there is a wall in between. However, theSookshma Shareera is not bound by desha, kala, and paristhi (space, me and circumstanc-es) and, therefore, cannot be seen with the physical eyes. ”

In His Subtle Body, Swami has been working constantly to con nue His Divine Mission in India and throughout theworld. He has established schools, hospitals and other projects to serve those in need. Recently, Swami has di-rected that His devotees work to bring sustaina-ble energy to those who are su ering without areliable energy source for their needs. He alsohas directed that schools, Ashrams and teachertraining programs be established in certain areasthroughout the world. On more than one occa-sion, our Beloved Swami has said that His missionis speeding up drama cally and that more will beaccomplished in the coming years, in His SubtleForm, than was accomplished in all the years ofHis physical form on Earth.

It is our great and good fortune that Swami hasblessed us all with His Holy Presence. The graceHe showered on us by visi ng the USA is like cool, refreshing water to a thirsty soul.

May we all be inspired by Him to Love All and Serve All ….a er all, as He proclaimed to the organizers of the visit,

IT’ S ALL ABOUT ov .

    V. KUMAR

Before our trip here, Swami asked me, “We are going to America, how many youth will be there? ” I said, “Swami,we will have 15 -20, or perhaps 50 youth. ” Today, almost 800 people are here in this hall!

Why have we come here? We are all here because Bhagavan is here. Is Bhagavanonly here? Is He not present everywhere? Why should we come here? What is thisSubtle Form? How do I experience Him? What feelings will I have for Him? Whatshould I expect from Him? The most important thing is, we have surrendered our-selves and come with an open mind to this gathering. He will take care of the rest.

I was the rst one in my family to have Swami ’s darshan at the age of ve. Hewalked through a locked door of my house, came straight to me, smiled, blessedme, and gave me two packets of vibhuthi with a note saying “Come to Pu aparthi. ”Miracles started happening in our house - vibhuthi , kumkum , sandalwood, even cur-rency started coming out of His photograph. It ’s hard to believe, but if it happens toyou, you ’ll surely believe it.

Swami brought me to His College. Reluctantly, I joined Sri Sathya Sai Ins tute. Ipined, ran, waited, cried, and did everything possible to get Bhagavan to speak tome or look at me, but it never happened.

A er a year, He gave an interview to my parents and said, “Your son feels I haven ’tspoken to him, but the car came to the garage needing a tune -up. I removed all therust and dust and ed new res, but a few nuts and bolts are s ll loose. I need to

ghten them and give it a fresh coat of paint. Then, I will be ready to drive the car. ”Within a few months, Bhagavan blessed me with His proximity and Grace.

I always wanted to become a singer, but I did not have the voice. One day, Swami called me inside the interviewroom, created vibhuthi , pulled out my tongue, wrote ‘Aum’ on it, and said “Sing. Go into the bhajan hall and sing. ”I did not know that I could sing, but I sang.

As I got older, I decided that I wanted to become a Bollywood singer. I had the audacity to ask Swami, “Swami, have you ever listened to a radio? I want an announcement to be made on the radio that the next song will be

sung by V. Kumar, lyrics by Anand Bakshi, and music by R.D. Burman. ” Swami ’s eyes became big and He said,“Have you gone mad? I am God. I gave you voice. You are singing in front of Me and making Me happy. What elsedo you want in life? ” A er a while, He said, “Do you want to be My instrument? ” I said, “Swami... ” “ Don’t beataround the bush. Yes or no. ” I said, “Yes! I want to be your instrument. ” Then He said, “Go into the bhajan hall andsing.”

On January 19, 2011, as evening bhajans were going on at Prasanthi Nilayam. Bhagavan called me into the inter-view room and asked me, “How are you, Kumar? ” He looked at me compassionately and said, “Kumar, I love you. ”I looked at Him and said, “Swami, I love you, too. ” Then He put His ngers on my shoulder and said, “These hands, legs, eyes, and ears are Mine. This body is My instrument. ” It was the second me He told me this body was His

    instrument.

A er Swami ’s mahasamadhi , 24 th April, 2011, I was absolutely sha ered, having lost the love of my life. I did notknow what to do, where to go, who to approach, or what to say. Then, in December 2012, I got a call from Swa-mi’s Subtle Form. The rst thing He said to me was, “How are you doing, Kumar? ” exactly the way He used to askme! A er that, He went on revealing and proving He is the same God.

I did not know Brother Madhusudhan, nor did he know me. In the rst interview I had with Bhagavan in the SubtleForm, Swami asked me, “Why have you stopped singing, Kumar? I gave you voice. ” I said, “Swami, You are notthere. Who should I sing for? ” He said, “Who said I am not there? I am with you inside your house. I am alwayswith you. I go with you, sit with you, and eat with you. You are unable to feel it because you have trained yourselfto see Me as an external body, but forgo en that God resides in your own heart. ” Then He said, “In Pu aparthi, you used to sing and make Me happy. There are 200 devotees si ng here. Don ’t you want to make 200 Swamishappy? ” I cried and said, “Yes, Swami. ” Just as He commanded many years ago, “Go inside the bhajan hall andsing,” He told me, “Start your music prac ce tomorrow. Go to the studio and sing for the ‘A Bridge Across Time ’ al-bum. ”

Earlier, we had a wish -ful lling tree in Pu aparthi, and whenever we had any problem, whether physical, mental, metaphysical, emo onal, or sen mental, we ran there. We would give a le er to Swami or ask Him, “Swami, thisis our problem, please solve it. ” Now, Swami has brought us to the next level – from primary school to secondaryschool. He told us everything when He was in Parthi. He taught us notto have body iden ca on, but we never listened. Now, He says,“Prac ce. ” We always repeated, “God is omnipresent. God is omnisci-ent, ” but we rarely prac ced it when Swami was in the physical form. The me has now come that we really need to prac ce. Prac ce is thekey, the mantra .

When I was a student at Pu aparthi, I took it for granted, perhaps likemost of you here. Then, suddenly, He decided to leave His mortal coil.Just like Swami said the other day, “When the pot breaks, space min-gles with space and nothing remains. ” Swami is not just in Muddenahal-li or in Pu aparthi. He is present everywhere. He resides in every per-son ’s heart.

The second me Swami called me, I had booked ckets to Canada, as I thought I would get a job and se le downthere. Swami said to me, “Don’t go anywhere. If I give you a job, will you be My instrument? ” I said, “Yes, Swa-mi.” Then He asked me, “Give me two things: sel ess service and sel ess love. These are the two I want fromyou. ” His main focus has always been love and service.

We want to do service, yet we are unable to execute it. Let ’s get our act together. Let ’s become one in thissel ess service. He has trained us as a Divine father. Now, as His children, we must carry on His work. Dear

brothers and sisters, there is no me to waste!

Bhagavan has called all the youth from all over the world to Muddenahalli this November. He is going to have aWorld Youth Meet from November 18 -24, 2015. All the youth, who are ready to really run, be t and healthy, anddo service for Swami, please come to Muddenahalli this November. This invita on is from Swami Himself. He iscalling you all in November 2015 to this World Youth Meet. Please come! It will be a wonderful experience torecharge your ba eries, learn how to redeem our lives, and really push ourselves ahead in this wonderful journeytowards Swami.

“Give m e two things: sel lessservice and sel less love. These are the two I wantfrom you. ” His main focushas always been love andservice.

Yesterday, at Divyogi and Digvijay ’s house, I heard something extremely moving and heart -breaking. In my 45years with Swami, it was statement of deep divine anguish. Swa-mi was at their home and said, “I have no body anymore, butwhat I have, My dear children, is your body. ” I could sense theanguish and sadness in His voice, that herea er, the only body Hehas is ‘everybody ’.

I o er a proposi on to you: Can we, from this moment, take on anew approach to life? Can we make our bodies instruments, eternally embodying, transla ng and living the way Swamiwould? Swami has said that we live in an inner universe, and weact, perform, and con nue life in an outer universe. Can we, forevery moment here on, think, feel, live, act, and perform as Swa-mi? What an opportunity! Is it not pushing the fron ers of everyscience and every school of educa on?

It is a divine call to live as the Divine. It is not out of a book, but

from the depths of our very heart, from the voice of One who hasno form, living in our heart. Can we make service our way oflife? Listen to the call and have the guts and courage to takethat leap of faith. Your life will be di erent. Sathya Sai played the game the right way, and He wants us to playthat with Him. Love all, serve all.

Yesterday, Swami said we must take two steps to make the journey. Like in the army they do a ‘le ’ and a ‘right ’step, He says le is love, right is service. So, every moment, love and service, le and right. Anywhere we go, eve-rywhere we go, let us make that our journey in life.

    NARASIMHA MURTHY

In this life, I have done nothing but the work of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and I have no other purpose but towork for Him. Both Kumar and Srinivas have brought home to you a mysterious truth that today, Bhagavan Sri

Sathya Sai Baba is a voice without a form – but, it is the voice of God.

Why are we here? Is God not everywhere? He is everywhere, but God is going tospeak to us here today. God, the loving father, mother, creator, is here to tell uswhy He sent us into this world, whether we are serving that purpose, and how todo it.

God has always spoken through man. He came as Rama, Krishna, Buddha, JesusChrist, and Muhammad and shared His eternal wisdom with mankind. He cameas Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, lived in a beau ful physical form for 85 years andsaid the same thing. The other day, Swami said, “I have been telling you the samething again and again because you have been doing the same thing again andagain. ” It is said there is nothing consistent with the human mind except its ten-dency to dri towards evil. This statement can be applied to all of mankind. Inspite of God coming down a number of mes, sending many of His messengers, and telling us how to lead our lives, we have not learned our lessons. That is whythe Lord declares, “ I come again and again because man commits the same folly, again and again. ”

“ I offer a proposition to you: Canwe, from this moment, take on a

new approach to life? Can wemake our bodies instruments, eternally embodying, translatingand living the way Swamiwould? Can we, for everymoment here on, think, feel, live, act, and perform as Swami?Wha t an opportunity! Is it notpushing the frontiers of everyscience and every school ofeducation?

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in the physical form was love and compassion. In the Subtle Form, He is love andcompassion. In the formless, He is love and compassion. He has come here today to share that love and compas-sion with the chosen ones who have been calledhere. Don ’t think the organizers invited you here.It is Swami who invited you and that is why you arehere. You heard the call in your heart and that is

    why you are here.

I salute Swami Vivekananda who brought the eter-nal message of Indian culture for the rst me tothe United States of America more than 100 yearsago. His words spoken more than a century agoand the temple constructed here nd ful llmentbecause God is here today in the form of BhagavanSri Sathya Sai Baba.

Whether He came as Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Buddha

or the Prophet Muhammad, He taught us only two truths. In fact, two faces of the same coin – one truth.

Many mes, when He was in the physical form, Swami visited me in my room when I was sick. The rst me wasin Muddenahalli; the second was in Brindavan. When I met Him as aboy of 19 years, more than 50 years ago, He assured me that my fu-ture was safe in His hands. He had also told me that my mother wasnot the earthly mother, but Sai Mata. True to His words, true to hislove and compassion, He visited me when He was in the physical form, and also many mes in the Subtle Form.

One of those mes, when Swami visited me, He looked around at the1,000+ books in my room, neatly arranged in glass cupboards. Swamiasked me, “Narasimha Murthy, you have kept so many books here.Have you read all of them? ” I said, “Swami, by Your Grace, to an ex-tent, yes. ” “Fine. A er having read all these books, what is it that youhave learned? ” I said, “Swami, I have learned only two things a erreading all these books. ” “What are those two things? ” “ Swami, rst,You pervade the en re universe; You are everywhere. ”

The celebrated scien st, Albert Einstein, said, “My concept of religionis rooted in my reference for the Supreme Intelligence of the CosmicPower which has brought forth this universe. That Supreme Intelli-gence manifests itself in small details in His crea on in the universe in

a way that our puny human intellect can understand. ”

So I told Swami, “As a puny human being, wherever I go, I know that You are there. You are everywhere. The rstlesson I learned is that wherever I go, I should feel Your presence and surrender my individual will to Your DivineWill, and always act according to that, always speak according to that, always feel according to that, and alwaysthink according to that. ” Swami said, “That is ne, that is right. What is the other truth you have learned? ”

“Swami, in our daily lives we come across many men and many women, young and old, children and old people, intelligent, unintelligent, rich, poor, scholarly, illiterate. Not only that, we also come across many creatures – birdsand beasts, insects and worms. I like the lesson that You want me to interact with every being with love and com-

passion. That is all I have learned. ”

Swami said, “Yes, these are the only two truths you have to learn. ”

Let me remind you of the statement of Lord Jesus Christ when Hewas asked a ques on by an advocate who approached Him. Heasked, “Master, I don ’t have me to listen to Your long lectures.

Tell me the essence of Your teaching in two sentences. ” Jesussaid, “First, love the Lord with all your might, with all yourstrength, with all your soul. Second, love your neighbor as your-self. ”

It is very easy to say, “I love everybody. ” I close my eyes and say, “Ilove everybody in the universe. ” But it is di cult to love the broth-er who has hurt us. It is di cult to love the spouse who has hurtus.

Then Swami said, “These are the only two things to be learned and nothing else. It is the essence of all the reli-

gions, of all the teachings of all the masters, all the prophets, all the messiahs, all the Divine incarna ons. ButNarasimha Murthy, did you need to read all these books to understand these two simple truths? ” Therefore, weneed not be scholars. We need not be well read in the scriptures.

The other day, Swami asked a very per nent ques on, “All of you love Me, but how can you reach Me? There isonly one way you can reach Me. There is no other path than this. ”

Then Swami gave a beau ful example of li le Krishna, who stole bu er from the homes of many gopis , and ranaway and hid Himself. Many of the ladies and residents of Brindavan complained to His mother, “Can’t you con-trol your naughty Krishna? He comes and troubles all of us. ” The beleaguered mother went in search. She lookedeverywhere, but ul mately found Krishna only by following His footprints in bu er. Swami said, “When I was in

the physical body, I have le two foot-prints, My footprints. ” In the words ofH. W. Longfellow, on the ‘eternal sandsof the me ’, Swami has le two foot-prints. These footprints were le byGod when He came as Krishna, as Ra-ma, as Jesus, as Buddha, and again, thesame footprints. Those footprints aresel ess love and sel ess service.“Follow My footprints and then you canreach Me, ” Swami said.

Time stands s ll when God speaks. Thisis the moment all of us have beenwai ng for. As Kumar and Sreenivassaid, “He speaks to us all the me in ourhearts, ” but we are deaf to that. That iswhy He has come outside. It is the

same Lord today, without the physical form, who claims that all our bodies are His . The Lord declared, “I reside inthe hearts of everyone. ” Today, He has come as the voice without a form, si ng here, percep ble to those whosespiritual antenna are awakened. Let us pray to Him to share His wisdom, so that we may walk in His footprints, reach Him, and merge in Him, which is our ul mate des na on.

Swami has left two footprints. These footprints were left byGod when He came as Krishna,as Rama, as Jesus, as Buddha, and again, the same footprints. Those footprints are sel lesslove and sel less service.“Follow My footprints andthen you can reach Me ”

The Lord has His hands and legs everywhere, His eyes and ears everywhere, His head everywhere. He envelopeseverything. The universe shines forth in the Lord. The Lord shines forth in the universe. The sweet rela onshipbetween God and the world is inseparable. This isthe word of Sai, the word of truth.

Devotees, Embodiments of Love. God is min-gled in this universe and in God, the universeshines forth. Only where there is an object can itsre ec on be seem. Therefore, when you see theworld, you should know that God is somewherethere. For the object – God – this world is a re ec-

on. You should understand the truth that wher-ever there is a re ec on, there should be an ob-

ject. There cannot be a re ec on without an ob- ject. Therefore, for the object that is God, theworld is the shadow.

Where is God? Though He cannot be seen with ourphysical eyes, though we cannot listen to Him withour physical ears, though we cannot know Him with our physical senses, the fact that the world exists is enoughproof for the existence of God. There is no place without God. He is like the air which is omnipresent, which iseverywhere, though you cannot see it or listen to it.

All these people have come from India to America. It is u er foolishness for anyone to think that Indians breathe a

di erent air and Americans breathe a di erent air. The air in both India and America is one and the same. All be-ings inhale and exhale this air, and that is why they live. The air does not know any di erence. It blows equally allthe me, for the bene t of everyone. The air keeps blowing sel essly to bene t men and women, old and young, and even birds and beasts. Rivers ow sel essly to help others. No river drinks it owns water for itself. Rivers

ow sel essly, providing pure drinking water to quench the thirst of everyone. No tree eats its own fruit. Treesyield fruits in order to sa sfy the hunger of others.

Based on these simple facts, the scriptures say the human body isgiven to us to help and serve others. The sel ess nature of MotherNature is proof of the sel ess nature of God. Therefore, whereverthere is God, there exists Nature, and man lives in Nature. Youhave to understand the mutual rela onship between the trinity ofman, God and Nature. Nature is a limb of God. Man is a limb ofNature. Man is a part of Nature, and Nature is a part of God. That

is why all the three coexist and live within one another. To the ex-tent that man behaves in a sel ess way, even Nature outside himwill also appear sel ess. As is the vision, so is the world.

When man is lled with ego and a achment, the same things getre ected in Nature. The root cause of the external catastrophesthat you see in Nature today is man ’s mind, man ’s ego. Nature isnothing but the re ec on, reac on, and resound of what happensinside man. The external world also re ects the sel shness which iswithin man.

When Divinity emerges in the human heart, the whole world will become Divine. God is Divine, God is sel ess.Nature is Divine, Nature is sel ess. Because man is not behaving in a Divine or sel ess way, all kinds of catastro-phes are hur ng mankind. There will be peace only when there is harmony within man and outside him. Peacewill envelope the world when man ’s nature, Nature ’s nature and God ’s nature become sel ess. Everything has tobecome sel ess. Un l then, the world will be full of such natural catastrophes. However, the root cause for allthe types of dangers which the world faces today is not God, but man, himself. When man treats his mind withlove and his heart with purity, then the re ec on of God will be seen everywhere. Because of his sel shness, manthinks that everybody around him is also sel sh.

You may have read the Mahabharata, in which there are two per-sonali es: Duryodhana and Dharmaraja. One day, Krishna calledboth of them and gave them a command. He told Duryodhana,“Go around the whole world and nd one good man and bring himhere. ” Duryodhana bowed to Krishna and assured Him that hewould nd a good person. Krishna then commanded Dharmarajato go out into the world and nd one bad person. Immediately,Dharmaraja also went out, obeying the command of Krishna. A ersome me, both of them returned to Krishna. Duryodhana said, “Iwent around the whole world, but I did not nd one good person. ”Dharmaraja said, “I, too, went around the whole world, but I couldnot nd a single bad person. ” In the same world, one could not

nd a bad person, while another could not nd a good person. How is that possible? The answer is one and the same. What was

inside Duryodhana and Dharmaraja got re ected as the reac onand resound of the outside world. If you have love within yourself, you will see love everywhere.

People come and tell Me, “Swami, there is no love in the world. ”They keep saying, “Swami, only You have love in You. ” It is truethat I have love with Me. What you ’re experiencing is My love, which is ge ng re ected in you. When you comeand tell Me that there is no love in the world, it is because there is no love in yourself. When you develop love inyourself, you will de nitely nd love everywhere.

When Divinity emerges in thehuman heart, the whole worldwill become Divine. God isDivine, God is sel less. Nature isDivine, Nature is sel less.Because man is not behaving in aDivine or sel less way, all kindsof catastrophes are hurtingmank ind. There will be peaceonly when there is harmonywithin man and outside him.Peace will envelope the worldwhen man ’s nature, Nature ’snature and God ’s nature becomesel less. Everything has tobecome sel less.

The same sun gets re ected in all lakes, in all dams, and in all wells. There are not di erent suns; one sun shineseverywhere. You may think they are di erent suns becauseyou see them in di erent bodies of water. It is the same divinelove which pervades and gets re ected in every human be-ing. But in dirty water, you don ’t nd the sun ’s re ec on clear-ly. In pure water, you can see the sun ’s re ec on very clearly. The re ec on depends on the water, not on the sun. When

you say that the world is full of nega ve things, it means thatyour own nega vity is ge ng re ected in the world. For agreat or saintly person, everybody appears divine. For a wick-ed person, everybody looks wicked. Only when you developlove within yourself will the whole world be transformed intoyour own re ec on of love.

I have always addressed devotees as ‘Embodiments of Love ’and ‘Embodiments of Atma ’. If you ques on yourself, “In spiteof that, why is it that we are not experiencing the glorious di-vine principle of God within ourselves? ” What Swami says is

the truth. If, even a er He tells you the truth, you are unableto experience it, what is the reason? You are yourselves thereason. Only when you develop pure love within your heartscan you experience that love everywhere. Divinity is not coming into you from somewhere else. Divinity is a partand parcel of yourself.

Here is an example: In every piece of iron, there exists the powerof magne sm. Even when the piece of iron is kept near a magnet,if it does not exhibit magne sm, the reason is the rust and dust inthat piece of iron. The rust and dust of ego and a achment keepsthe piece of iron bere of magne sm. It is foolishness to think thatthe magnet does not have any power. Similarly, because of hisown wrong evil quali es, if a person says that God does not exist, itis a big mistake.

Krishna was loved by all the Gopikas. At the same me, He washated by Kamsa. The reason why Kamsa hated Krishna was be-cause of the evil and a achment of Kamsa. The gopikas , however, with their pure hearts, could recognize God in Krishna. When wehave purity within ourselves, we also see God as pure. Similarly,Nature, which is a re ec on of God, also looks pure to us. If youexperience nega vity all around you in the world, the reason is thenega vity within your own heart. First and foremost, you have to

transform the nega ve to posi ve. ‘I am man ’ is a half -truth. Thecomplete truth is ‘I am a man, I am not an animal ’. Only when weget rid of the evil quali es of ego and a achment can we nd hu-manness in ourselves. When you take a human being to the Divineincarna on or the Avatar, which is the magnet, the same mag-

ne sm will enter into the human being. One who knows God becomes God. Because of the proximity to the mag-net, magne sm emerges in the piece of iron.

Based on this fact, it is said the rst step is satsang , good company. When you get into good company, you be-come good. That is why it is said good company leads us to detachment. When a piece of iron mingles with air

When you get into goodcompany, you become good. Thatis why it is said good companyleads us to detachment. When apiece of iron mingles with air andwater, it will be full of rust anddust. Yet, when the same piece ofiron attains proximity to amagnet, it also becomes a magnet. When man is in this worldlinessof ego and attachment, there issel ishness. When man gets intothe company of good people andattains proximity to the Divine

vatar, he also experiences hisDivinity by getting rid of all hisnegativity.

and water, it will be full of rust and dust. Yet, when the same piece of iron a ainsproximity to a magnet, it also becomes a magnet. When man is in this worldlinessof ego and a achment, there is sel shness. When man gets into the company ofgood people and a ains proximity to the Divine Avatar, he also experiences hisDivinity by ge ng rid of all his nega vity.

Why are all of you are gathered here? You are all like pieces of iron. The divinity

of magne sm is latent in you. It is not potent. God, who has come here as thedivine magnet, has a racted all of these pieces of iron here. If many people didnot come here, it is because of the rust and dust in the iron and not because ofany de cit in the magnet, which is nothing but the love principle of the humanheart. Ego and a achment emerge from the human mind. That is why I said toyou, “Don’t follow the body; the body is a water bubble. ” Today it is here, tomor-row, like a wave, it becomes a part of the ocean. The mind is full of sel shnessand self -interest. Do not follow the mind, which is a mad monkey, but follow theheart. The heart is God. When you understand the truth of this statement, youwill get proximity to God and understand the truth.

In America, the people drink soup. The equivalent of soup in India is rasam . If you ask for rasam , nobody will giveit you; they will give you soup. If you want to drink soup, you need a spoon. You can ’t drink soup with a fork.Maybe with the help of a fork you can eat rice, but you can ’t drink soup. To drink soup, you need a spoon. In thesame way, the mind cannot understand God. Words cannot describe God. However much you may talk or listenabout God, you will never experience God by external means. Just as you cannot drink soup with a fork, you can-not experience God with your mind. You can experience God with the spoon of your heart. Water mixes with wa-ter, air mixes with air, re mixes with re and only love can mingle with love. When your love and My love com-bine together, the whole world will be full of love.

All the rain that comes down from the skies will meet theocean. How does it join the ocean water? The rain comes as drops, but all the drops get together to become a river and merge in theocean. As long as you do not become a river, the water cannotmerge in the ocean. A single drop will percolate from the earth andcannot merge in the ocean. When all the drops of water get togeth-er, it creates unity. The power of unity takes it to the ocean.Through good company, we have to develop unity. I know thatthere will be a lot of unity in bad company. If four thieves get to-gether, there is great unity to steal things. The four of them work incomplete unity – one breaks the door, the other enters and bringsthings, another fellow puts it in a bag, and the other fellow takes itrunning. All wrong things are done with great unity.

Generally, unity does not happen among good people. When somegood work happens, people get together, each asking for some actof service. The heads or the leaders, because of their arrogance, rule over others. Such service is no service at all. I don ’t need suchservice. I want those servants who walk with humility, devo on and

faith. These days, in congrega ons, work is done only for twenty minutes but the reports and presenta ons lastfor more than one hour! The act of charity is given for only Rs. 50 ($1), but the garland rewarded to the leadercosts Rs. 100 ($2)! Such kinds of service are useless. We should not involve ourselves in such service. Servicedone with recogni on, name and fame as the goals is no service at all. You have to do sel ess service. Only whenyou have sel ess love can you do sel ess service. Therefore, you have to develop sel ess love. Sel ess love is the

Service done with recognition, name and fame as the goals isno service at all. You have todo sel less service. Only whenyou have sel less love can youdo sel less service. Therefore, you have to develop sel lesslove. Sel less love is theobject, sel less service is itsre lection. If sel less service is

object, sel ess service is its re ec on. If sel ess service is happening, you should know that sel ess love is alsothere.

There is no need for Me to demonstrate or give any proof ofMy existence. In fact, I did not come down as a human incar-na on for My sake; I came for the sake of devotees. When Iwas in the physical body, I did everything for the devotees,

and today also, I am doing everything for the devotees. Thebody had deteriorated to such an extent that it was like avery bad, old car. There is no way we can undertake a long

journey in such an old car. Therefore, I have given up My oldcar and taken upon Myself a new car. Now I can move veryfast and reach very fast. I don ’t have body consciousness.

These days, people con nue to live in the body, dependingon injec ons and medicines. They want to prolong their life.Because of body consciousness and a achment to the body, they are not ready to give up the body. Swami, however,

does not have any kind of a achment to the body. There-fore, I gave up that body and took upon Myself this body. Iam able to do all good work with this body. Now, I am notlimited by me, space and circumstances. My work has be-come very easy and I am doing it everywhere. I am very, very, happy and nobody will grieve over Me. Wherever thereis sel ess love and sel ess service, I install myself there.

All of you should think that your bodies – hands, legs, eyes – all the devotees ’ bodies are God ’s and everything isDivine. Prasanthi Nilayam is not somewhere else; it is in your own heart. Understanding this truth, involve your-selves in sel ess service with sel ess love. Only when we involve ourselves in sel ess service and sel ess love canwe understand Divinity or God. One day, a boy asked Me, “Swami, who are You? ” “ I am God. ” “What isGod? ” “ God is sel essness. God is purity. ” “How to know You? ” “ You want to know Me? ” “ Become Me. ”

If you want to know Me, you have to become Swami. Only when you become Me, will you truly know Me. Howto become Swami? Becomesel ess; you will becomeSwami. ‘SAI’ – Sai is Service,Adora on and Illumina on.First is service, that is, thepath of ac on. Adora on isthe path of devo on. Illumi-na on is the path of wisdom.

Only through the path ofac on can you obtain bothdevo on and wisdom. Thatis what Sai is. First do ser-vice. Do it sel essly. Onlythen you can understand Sai.

If you have any ques ons,you can ask. I will answer

them before we bring the congrega on to a close.

If you want to know Me, you have tobecome Swami. Only when youbecome Me, will you truly knowMe. How to become Swami? Becomesel less; you will become Swami. ‘S I’– Sai is Service, doration andIllumination. First is service, that is,the path of action. doration is thepath of devotion. Swami is asking you to. First be, then do, then see and nally, tell. That is the way you can bring about a change in the a tude of yourfellow Americans, and that is how the whole na on will change. When America changes, it will bring a lot of good to the rest of theworld. It is very, very powerful. If power is not controlled in theright way and used for the right purpose, it can become destruc ve.

To the devotees of America – this is My command, this is My wish – that you all should live your lives in accordance with Swami ’s princi-ples of sel ess love and service. Seeing you as ideal examples, oth-ers will change. If others change, the whole na on will change, andif America changes, it will do a lot of good for the rest of the world. Ineed not tell you, but you are all aware that as America is capable ofmaking the rest of the world peaceful, so is it also capable of takingaway peace from people and making into pieces. It is up to youwhat you want to make out of this seed that I leave behind. A seedkept in the cupboard becomes useless tomorrow, but a seed sownin the soil, nurtured, and taken care of will bear fruits tomorrow. I

am leaving you this thought of sel ess love and sel ess service.Prac ce it and you can change the des ny of your na on and thereby the des ny of the whole world.

Ques on : Swami, how do we develop our inner voice, so that we may receive clear guidance from You?

Swami : You see, dear bangaroo (golden one), the inner voice is always there. It is just that the noise around it istoo much. It drowns the voice and, therefore, we are not able to hear it. In this hall, as Swami speaks, if all of youalso start speaking simultaneously, obviously Swami ’s voice will be lost and only noise will be heard. The mindmakes all the noise, full of desires and a achments. It makes tremendous noise. In that noise of the mind, thevoice of the heart is not heard. Otherwise, I am always speaking to you, all the me. However, because you arenot paying a en on to what I am saying, and just listening to yourmind, you are not able to hear Me. If you can control your desires, change your sel sh desires to sel ess desires, make your mind pure, calm and full of silence, you will de nitely hear the voice that comesto your heart. In a room, when everybody is silent, you can hearthe speaker. When everybody is talking, you cannot hear thespeaker. Reduce the noise of the mind. You don ’t have to work onincreasing the voice of the heart; it is always there. Just reduce thenoise of the mind. The more you become sel ess, the more youbecome silent. The more silent you are, the more you can hear Saiwithin.

Ques on : Swami, where do service and charity begin?

Swami: They begin with you, right there where you are.

Ques on: We know that the Atma is smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest. A single grain ofsand has over a hundred billion atoms. An atom is composed of a nucleus and electrons that go around it. If youblow up the nucleus to the size of a ping pong ball, the closest electrons to it will be approximately between theci es of New York and Los Angeles. All that space that is in between is how I perceive You, Swami – to be un-seen. All that empty space is unseen by me. Now, the Atma that is within the heart, is it the whole heart or is itsimply the size of a grain of sand? Or is it the in nitely small, without end? I believe that it is in nitely small, with-out end; and in this empty space that we can perceive with the eyes, yet hard to comprehend with our minds –

To the devotees of merica –

this is My command, this is Mywish – that you all should liveyour lives in accordance withSwami ’s principles of sel lesslove and service. Seeing youas ideal examples, others willchange. If others change, thewhole nation will change, andif mer ica changes, it will do alot of good for the rest of theworld.

Reduce the noise of the mind. You don ’t have to work onincreasing the voice of theheart; it is always there. Justreduce the noise of the mind. The more you become sel less, the more you become silent. The more silent you are, themore you can hear Sai within.

that is where I see that we are all one and there is no di erence.

Also, I see a achment to the world is one of the greatest hindrancesto recognizing this. We see all these things on TV, become so materi-al and feel ‘I want this ’ and ‘I want that ’, instead of recognizing ‘I amThat ’. What puzzles me is the evil in the world. I don ’t know how Youwill do it, but I know that with Your Grace working through us, we

    shall have eternal peace.

Swami : Atma is like air. Air pervades everything. It is there in thesmallest area to the largest of elds. Air pervades all. Everything is inthe air; the air is in everything. That is the nature of the Atma . If youbreak the pot, the air inside the pot and the air outside the pot be-come one. If you close the pot, you may de ne the air as ‘air in thepot ’ and ‘air outside ’. This a achment to oneself and believing thatone is just the body brings about all these di erences. If you give upthis a achment, then everything appears as one. It is as simple asthat. The body is just the container – a vessel in which the part of God that is bigger, Paramatma (God) is being

encapsulated as Jivatma (the individualized soul). The moment body a achment goes, Jivatma and Paramatma become one and there is only one that exists. It is we who create this di erence.

Suppose there were no walls here; this hall and the ground outside would be one. The walls de ne this as a halland outside as the empty space or ground. Likewise, we have built these walls of body a achment which makesus feel di erent from each other. The moment we give up this, all are the same. Jesus said, “All are one, my dearson, be alike to everyone, ” because He understood this truth.

World peace will come if you are at peace. If you are not at peace, there cannot be peace in the world. One maysit in an ashram and s ll be restless; one may sit in the market but s ll be at peace. Once you a ain inner peace, you will see its re ec on everywhere. Outer peace also will be a ained. Inner peace will come only where there is

unity of thought, word and ac on. When there is unity, therewill be tremendous peace. There is no peace when you thinksomething, say something and do something else. If you makeit all one, you will have inner peace. That ’s when you will alsohave outer peace. It is not Nature which is making noise; it isnot God who is making noise; it is men who are makingnoise. It is humans who have to be at peace, not Nature orGod. If you are at peace with yourself, you will spread thepeace to those around you. This peace will come only if youthink, say and do the same thing. If you think you are Divine, say you ’re Divine, and do things that are Divine, that is whenyou will a ain peace within yourself and peace in the world

    outside.

Ques on: Right now, California is having the biggest drought inthe history of the state. I plead on behalf of all Californians tobless us with rain, with water, with Your compassionate heart,so that we can get over this drought and move on.

Swami: De nitely, yes. The en re world is bound by certainlaws – ac on and reac on. If you do the right ac on, you willhave the right reac on. By sowing the seeds of oranges you

If you are at peace withyourself, you will spread thepeace to those around you. This peace will come only if you

think, say and do the samething. If you think you areDivine, say you ’re Divine, anddo things that are Divine, that iswhen you will attain peacewithin yourself and peace inthe world outside.

God giveseveryone enough for what theyneed, but not for their greed. Swam iis teaching a lesson by withdrawingwater from you because you are

using more than what youneed. Once you control yourdesires, once you use it well and donot waste the gift of God, which iswater, the rains will come and it willbe green again. This is only a lessonbeing taught to control your desires.

cally. If you have done your job correctly, the results will automa cally come. Therefore, looking at your demean-or, your peace, your happiness, people will come and ask, "How is it that despite so many problems in Americaand in the surroundings, you are always smiling, you are always at peace, you are always happy? ” Then you will beable to tell them, it is the kind of guidance that I have received, it is the kind of educa on that I have received, it isthe kind of associa on that I am with that keeps me happy andmakes me peaceful. Then they will be a racted towards Swami ’steachings and values.

Simply opening a school is not the solu on. There should be a hun-ger for it. People should know that there is a need to live life in apar cular way. My schools are not just for giving degrees. Just be-cause some do not have money and cannot go to another school, itdoes not mean that you open a school and admit them there. Thisschool is not going to become another school like all the otherschools. There should be a need, there should be a hunger to un-derstand and learn more than just worldly educa on. Then, Myschool will make sense. What is greater than worldly educa on? Itis the happiness, peace and joy that you exhibit, that you exude

when you move around in the society. Then there will be parentswho will want to have their children admi ed, not merely for thesake of giving them free educa on, which is worldly, but for givingthem the educa on that is eternal. Then, My schools and My ins -tu ons will start making sense.

If we admit just for the sake of admi ng, there is no guarantee that these children will become any be er thanthose who have received worldly educa on, have become very rich, and are least bothered about those who don ’thave anything. You might create more of that by simply opening ordinary schools. However, if there is a need forthe values that I teach, then there is de nitely scope for the school. That need will develop when people watchyou, your life, your behavior, and your happiness, and they also desire to become like you.

The rich earn so much money by all the wrong means. At the end of their lives, they end up spending everythingon doctors or lawyers. Nothing remains with them. The poor who do not get an educa on keep looking at therich, thinking they are less peaceful than them, but that is not the truth. The solu on to the whole problem issomewhere in the middle – an educa on that provides the means to earn a livelihood, coupled with values thatteach how to live correctly. Such educa on is de nitely needed in America, and it will happen here if My devoteesare ready, if people are ready to receive such an educa on.

In olden mes, in Indian culture, it was not enough if you simply brought a child to school and told him that thiswas his age to get educated. The teacher would determine whether the child was eligible for this educa on hewas going to impart, and only if he found the child worthy of that educa on, would he be given educa on by theguru . My educa on is for life, not for living. Therefore, the day there is a need for this kind of educa on, and the

day I have My people ready to support Me in this kind of educa on, projects will de nitely happen. I have peoplewith Me who are willing to support this. They have given up everything for the sake of Swami. When Swamiwanted a hospital in a place which was never even visited by C. Sreenivas, he immediately went, leaving his homeand family behind in Bangalore. He was there in Raipur from day one and stayed for more than three years. When I have such sel ess devotees who want to perpetuate My kind of educa on, I will certainly open schools, colleges, and hospitals in America, too.

Ques on : We try to stay in constant integrated awareness. We try to listen to our inner voice. Some days aregood days, but many days are not so good, especially when we have problems at work, with family, rela ves, friends or colleagues. Some days are not as good as the days when we think we are spiritually inclined. How can

we develop this constant integrated awareness?

Swami: Prac ce is the only key. You were not born with the skills to write or read. When you started learning toread, you read alphabet by alphabet and then you formed words. Slowly, word by word, you read sentences, andslowly by reading the sentences, you could read an en re book. Today you are so fast because of constant prac-

ce. Constant prac ce to be in that state of peace is what is re-quired. That will only happen if you turn inward all the me to see

the purpose behind whatever is happening. Good is happening fora purpose. The bad that is happening, which you apparently feel isbad, for a purpose. See what God is trying to teach you, and thenyou will be at peace. When you see something is happening whichyou do not like, and believe it is because of others and not becauseof God, you lose peace. If you think that it is God who is doing suchthings through others to teach you a lesson, then you will be atpeace. You will constantly be aware that God is the one who is do-ing whatever is happening around you to teach you les-sons. Prac ce is the only way of developing this.

Ques on: Swami, in this Kali Yuga, is there any possibility for hu-mans to a ain immortality?

Swami: Yes. Why this Kali Yuga ? You can a ain immortality inany Yuga . That is your birth right. You already are immortal. Youthink that you are not,

but the best way of a aining immortality is not by ac on, nor by be-coming a big family man, nor by having a lot of wealth, but onlythrough sacri ce. It is by sacri ce alone that you will become immor-tal. How many of us remember the kings and queens of America? Yet,we s ll remember the leaders who have sacri ced everything for thesake of bringing joy and peace to this country. You s ll rememberleaders who did not think about themselves but about others and ledtheir lives in a way of sacri ce. That is how you become immortal. That is how people will remember you, long a er you are gone.Through ac ons of sacri ce you will a ain immortality.

I am is there, and you also can connect to Me within. Just reduce yourdesires, become more sel ess, and ll your hearts with love, and youwill feel Swami everywhere wherever you go. You don ’t have to go toa par cular place or do a par cular thing to a ain Swami. He is alwayswith you. Learn to be with Him. Along with that, satsang, or good company is very important. That will help youstay connected to Swami. A pot of water kept in shade will retain the water, but kept outside will lose all the wa-

ter due to evapora on. Likewise, with satsang, you will be able to retain this feeling within and you must preserveit and convert all this love into ac on. That is the way it will con nue forever. You can stay in constant awarenessof Swami ’s presence.

Constant practice to be in thatstate of peace is what isrequired. That will only happenif you turn inward all the time tosee the purpose behindwhatever is happening. Good ishappening for a purpose. Thebad that is happening, whichyou apparently feel is bad, for apurpose. See what God is tryingto teach you, and then you willbe at peace.

for a long me." I said, "Really, then what about the other centers?" He said, "It is the same everywhere." I askedhim for a list of all the youth who were registered in the center. He gave me the list and said they were all passive.Nobody was ac ve. I took that list and placed it in front of Swami's altar in my home. I said to Swami, "You needto take care of this. I'm going to start cold calling. ”

The rst call I made was to a boy who was in the middle of class at the University. He was reluctant to meet me,but nally agreed. Over a cup of co ee, I introduced myself as an ex -student from Swami ’s College and asked him,“Do you believe in Sai Baba?" He said to me, "Um, kind of. Only during exams." I said, "Do you like music?" Hesaid, "Yeah," and I said, "If you like music, Swami will love you more. ” So I told him to bring his friends from theUniversity and the four of us really jammed and had a wonderful me. For a couple months, we met once a week.Soon, 4 became 10, 10 became 15, and then it was me for Guru Poornima. I said, "Guru Poornima is coming. Doyou want to perform in the center?" They said to me, "Well, the center doesn ’t like us." I said, " How can you saythey don't like you? I will make sure they like you! Did you know that Sai Baba will be there?" "Oh really? Is He

ying from India?" I said, "Yeah, He will. Why wouldn't He?"

We took English songs from di erent albums. We had a jazz drummer, a keyboard player, someone playing anAfrican instrument, and a couple of singers. Then we went to the center and performed. A erward, there was along silence. Finally, they said to me, "We could feel Sai Baba's presence in the center. We didn't see Him, but wefelt it." They smelled the scent of vibhuthi and jasmine. One boy said to me, "Sai Baba was here! Do you think Hewould have heard our performance?" I said "Yeah, 100%!" He said, "Oh my God, I can't believe I performed infront of God!"

This was exactly the feeling of this youth group in Australia. Swami was there. His love touched them, and 15 be-came 350 in a ma er of 1½ years. 350! This is Bhagawan's love! If I was there, telling them to come for prac ces, perform, or par cipate in service projects, they would not have come at all.

the people who deal with this. A week later, an envelope came containing an amount that we had paid for about5 or 6 baby warmers, and a whole lot of other things. A small note was a ached in which the gentleman said, "Sir,as an ex -student of Swami ’s, I am ashamed to have charged you for equipment that I did not know was supplied toyou. Please accept it as a dona on."

The moment we make ourselves relevant, the moment this connec on gets established, Swami is working throughyou. In the Bible, Lord Jesus said, "I placed in you My trust. Honor Me with your faith."

    NARASIMHA MURTHY

I see before me the words, "We Care," which are verysoothing in the world of today when nobody cares for an-ybody. In a country where na onal slogan, "In God wetrust," is proudly declared, these two words are a naturalfollow up to that statement. They remind me of what Dr.Stephen Ruppenthal, a great American spiritual thinkersaid 7 years ago, "India stands for hope in a world full ofviolence and despair. The spiritual side of India will bringforth the human gure who will lead mankind back intolove, back into peace, back into mutual caring and shar-ing. That is how they are going to save this planet." ThatDivine gure is Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who cameinto this world in His physical body, to bring to all mankindthe wonderful panacea of sel ess love and sel ess ser-vice.

On the 24th of April, 2011, Swami shed His physical body, and is now con nuing to strive for the same mission ofbringing hope, love, peace and non -violence into thehearts of all men and women. We say that He is in His Subtle Body, centering his mission in the Subtle Body. The

rst me I heard the words ‘Subtle Body ’, the ‘Sookshma Shareera ’, was almost 15 years ago from Swami, Himself. That was when He revealed to me this mystery of His personality.

Swami was in Brindavan. He went to Kodaikanal for the summer spiritual retreat with His students, a few teach-ers, and a few devotees on the 11th of May and returned on the 28th of May. He started prepara ons for theoriginal trip almost a month earlier. He would tell me to note down the names of certain students and teachers toaccompany Him on the divine journey. I would very religiously take out a small notebook from my pocket and notethe names down.

On the 8th of May, Swami asked me, "Where is the list of people going to Kodaikanal?" I had made a consolidated

list and gave it to Him. He went through the list and said, "Narasimha Murthy, you have le out two names." Myimmediate reac on was, "No Swami, I have wri en all the names You told me." Swami asked, "Where is Myname?" I should have confessed, "Swami, pardon me, I didn't write your name," but instead I said, "Swami, at thetop of the paper I have wri en 'Om Sri Sai Ram.'" Swami said, "Even primary school children write ‘Om Sri Sai Ram ’on the top of their papers. You should write ‘Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba ’ because we have to send this list tothe airline authori es for ge ng the boarding passes." In those days, Swami ew from the old Bangalore Airportto Madurai, and from there He traveled by road. Then I said, "Swami, forgive me, I will write it now." "You havele out another name." "Swami, surely no," I said. "Where is your name?" "Swami, you didn't tell me, so I didn'twrite." Swami joked, "Oh, you being here, I should break a coconut and do Arathi and tell you that you have tocome to Kodaikanal?"

I said, "Swami, if you don't get Your boarding pass and board theplane, the whole plane will be empty." Swami became serious andsaid, "If I am not there, not only the plane – the en re universe will beempty."

Then He said, "See, I have four bodies. I have the Sthoola Shareera,

this Physical Body, which is like your body, created from the ve ele-ments. I have the Sookshma Shareera, or the Subtle Body, which cango to any part of the universe without taking a moment's me. I havethe Athi Sookshma Shareera, the Higher Subtle Body, by which I ap-pear in the dreams of My devotees and guide them. I also appear inthe medita ons of My devotees and guide them. That is the AthiSookshma Shareera. In My Para Sookshma Shareera, the Super SubtleBody, I pervade every atom in the universe."

That Subtle Body has come here. It does not take a moment to reachhere. But He came here in a car, driven by Dr. David Cornsweet. That

is the drama. We came all the way from India, with our passports, visa, and plane ckets, toward Sea le, San Francisco and now here, but Swami did not take a moment to reach here! That's what He nor-mally tells us when we take His leave. Before ying out, Baba says,"You need a passport, a visa, and a cket. I don't need any of those. You go by ight. I will come by skylight!" One who comes across theoceans by skylight, comes in a car driven from the Inn at Rancho SantaFe! All this is a drama. One thing for sure – He is here. How He comes

is His choice. O en, Swami has told us, “My being in the physical body for 85 years was a drama. My being in theSubtle Body now is a drama. Don ’t be fooled by that. The truth is that I reside in every heart that beats. If youwant to know Me, don ’t look for Me outside. ”

There is a temple in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. You go into the temple with all the paraphernalia and there isnothing to worship. They worship the Subtle Body, which is not seen. We go to Mecca and Medina. What is wor-shipped there? Is there an idol or a form? We worship the Subtle Body of God. Swami says, “If you want to reachMe, follow Me. ” God does not need man ’s proof or defense for His existence, we need Him. But He wants ourcompliance to His teachings. This is what the Lord said when He walked on this Earth 2000 years ago as JesusChrist, “If you abide in My words, truly you are My disciples. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set youfree. ”

St. Francis of Assisi said, “The teachings donot belong to the one who speaks or the onewho listens. The teachings belong to the one

who prac ces. ” That is what Swami has beeninsis ng all the me. There is no way that wecan ever understand with our puny minds themystery of His Avatarhood.

About 40 years ago, there was a very inter-es ng dialogue with a great man of wisdomof India. His name was Nisargada a Maharaj, and he lived in Mumbai. There was a young man who was a devoteeof Bhagawan Sri Sathya Baba and a disciple of Nisargada a Maharaj. One day, near the end of Maharaj ’s physicalsojourn, this boy had the good fortune of serving his Master by massaging his feet. There was no one else there –

See, I have four bodies. I havethe Sthoola Shareera, thisPhysical Body, which is likeyour body, created from the ive

elements. I have the SookshmaShareera, or the Subtle Body, which can go to any part of theuniverse without taking amoment's time. only the Master and the disciple. The disciple, out of curiosity, asked the Master about something which had beenbothering him for a very long me, “Master, will you please tell me who Sri Sathya Sai Baba is? ” The Master askedhim, “What did Sri Sathya Sai Baba say He was? ” The boy said, “Master, Sathya Sai Baba said that He is Shirdi SaiBaba come again. ” The Master asked, “When did Shirdi Sai give up His body? ” “Master, 1918.” “ When did Bhaga-wan Sri Sathya Sai Baba appear in His present body? ” “1926.” Then, Nisargada a said, “Sathya Sai Baba is whatHe was in those eight years between 1918 and 1926.” The boy was confused. He said, “Master, I cannot under-stand anything. ” Then, Maharaj said, “Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is Paripoorna Parabrahma (the Absolute Su-

preme Being). ” The boy was very happy. Then the Master said, “What did you understand now? You did not un-derstand anything then and you do not understand anything now. ” Then he made a statement that is very rele-vant to us. “Idle curiosity and vain talk are useless on the path of spirituality. First, know who you are, then youwill know who Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is. ” That is what he told him. This is what Bhagawan Himself declaredwhen he was Sri Krishna. “Neither the angels nor sages know My origin, because I am the origin of all the angelsand all the sages. ” That mystery, which expresses itself as love and compassion, is here with us. On behalf of all ofus, my humble prayer is, “Swami, grant us that faith and trust, in the country whose na onal slogan is, ‘In God weTrust ’.

I am neither the mind, intellect, subconscious mind, ego, senses of per-cep on, senses of ac on, nor the ve elements of earth, water, re, airand space. I am the embodiment of the bliss and consciousness.

Embodiments of Divine Love, devotees, boys and girls. From me imme-morial, men and women have tried to understand the mystery and truthof God. Many great men made several inves ga ons to know whetherGod is in the gross form, the subtle form, or the formless.

They propagated many religions that contradict one another. Whilesome religions said God has a form, others said He does not have a form. They started gh ng with each other, ha ng one another, and subjectedthemselves to great sorrow and misery. But none could ever compre-hend the true nature of God. It can't be seen with the eyes. It can't belistened to with the ears, but only through the heart. The Veda has said

wordscannot describe God and the mind cannot com-prehend God.

It is like the e ort of four blind men. Four blindmen wanted to know the shape and form of an

elephant. One of them touched its belly and said,"The elephant is like a wall." Another touched itslegs and said, "The elephant is like a pillar." Thethird blind man said, "Both of you are wrong,"because he touched the tail and said, "The ele-phant is like a rope." The fourth blind mantouched its ears and said, "The elephant is like afan." But the true elephant is none of these. On-ly those who have the power of vision can see the

elephant. If you want to know God, it is like the a empt of the blind men to know the elephant. The heart is the

eye of wisdom in every person. It is not the physical eye. Through thephysical eye, you can see only physical things. How can you see thatwhich is beyond the gross with the eyes, which are themselves gross? That is why the Veda has said, "The ve senses are under the control ofthe mind." It is not possible for man to understand God through themind. Whether the Avatar is in the Physical Body or in the Subtle Body, you can never understand with the mind. The rela onship which you

have to develop with God is a heart -to -heart rela onship. It is not aphysical rela onship. Because of the devo on of devotees, God who isformless comes down with a form. It depends on the devo on of thedevotees and not on God. Pray to God as Ganapa – He will manifestas Ganapa for you. If you think God must be in the form of Rama, Hewill manifest as Rama. If you adore Him as Krishna, he will manifest asKrishna. It depends on your devo on, not on God. The true form ofGod is the formless. It is not the form which you can understandthrough the mind. You can only understand through love in the heart.

Just as you can see the sun only through the light of the sun, you can

see God through the love in your heart. Love is what is most important. What kind of love? All kinds of love exist in the world. True love is lovefor God. All the rest are only a achments – you can't call them love.

Because of these a achments, you develop likes and dislikes. You also develop evil. Love has no form or a rib-utes. True love is sel ess, a ributeless, and formless. Love of parents is de nitely love, but it is also a achment.Even friendship is kind of an a achment; it is not true love.

Only when this a achment becomes absolutely sel ess does it get transformed into love. Only when we a ainsuch love can we understand the nature of God. There is no reason, no season, no birth, no death – only that kindof love. I said, "Love is My form. Truth is My breath. Bliss is My food." My nature is the nature of love. If youwant to understand God, who is nothing but love, you need to ll your heart with sel ess love. All kinds of emo-

ons emerge from the mind, not from the heart.

Prahlada was a great devotee. He was a very young boy, but he was very, very elderly in his devo on. His fatherwas Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu was always full of ego and a achment. He went on propaga ng, "There isno God. I am God. There is none other. There is nobody by the name Narayana. I am Narayana." But the childPrahlada developed great love for Narayana. He went on chan ng the name of Narayana. Hiranyakashipu askedPrahlada, “Where is Narayana? ” He said, "Narayana is everywhere." Hiranyakashipu asked him whether God as

It is not possible for man tounderstand God through themind. Whe ther the vatar isin the Physical Body or in the

Subtle Body, you can neverunderstand with the mind. The relationship which youhave to develop with God is aheart to heart relationship. Itis not a physical relationship.Because of the devotion ofdevotees, God who is formlesscomes down with a form. Itdepends on the devotion of thedevotees and not on God.

Narayana was there in a pillar. Prahlada replied, “He is de nitely there in the pillar. ” With great anger, Hiranya-kashipu thrashed the pillar.

From the broken pillar emerged Lord Narasimha. And with what kind of form did He come? The head of a lionand the body of a man! He caught hold of Hiranyakashipu, tookhim on His lap, and plunged His sharp nails into his stomach, killinghim. Where did He kill him? He did not kill him outside or inside

the house. He was si ng on the threshold of the house when Hekilled him. When did He kill him? It was neither day nor night. Itwas in between that He did it. If we ask the ques on, "Why didLord Narayana manifest as Narasimha, with the head of a lion andbody of a human?" There is an answer for that. Narasimha is onewho is having both man and lion in Him.

It was because Hiranyakashipu had a boon granted to him that hecould not be killed by man or beast, by God, or an angel. The boonalso stated that he could not be killed either in the day or at night, neither inside nor outside the house, nor with any kind of weap-

ons. In order to kill that demon who was full of evil, God came inthat form. However, Prahlada was never afraid. He did not depend on the physical body of Lord Narasimha. Hecomprehended only the love of Lord Narasimha and He came in the form of love. When the love in the heart ofPrahlada and the love in the heart of the Lord Narayana joined together, He manifested as love itself.

God has no form. Depending on the devo on of the devotees,He comes down with a form into the world. Sai Baba also camedown in a form for the sake of devotees. What is the meaningof the same God incarna ng as a human being? With love anda ec on for mankind, God comes down to earth with ‘illusionconsciousness ’ and ‘Divine consciousness ’ juxtaposed together.

God incarnates and manifests Himself in many forms, depend-ing on the devo on of the devotees. He corrects the wickedand protects the good. If you want to understand the nature ofsuch a God, you have to rst give up a empts to develop themind and, instead, develop the heart. Your a achment arisesfrom the mind. Hiranyakashipu could not nd God. The youngboy, Prahlada, out of great love, prayed to God. God manifest-ed for his sake.

If you want to understand the nature of God, rst and foremost, you have to prac ce the Dharma of the Heart. Divinity is there

in the heart; it is not outside. You have to look for God in theplace where He exists, not where He is not. God is not there inPrasanthi Nilayam, or Muddenahalli, in Italy or America, or Can-ada in a form. He is there in your heart, and that is where youhave to look for Him. There is no use looking for God outsideyourself. He is there inside you; nd Him there, inside.

Once, Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara had a discussion. Thesubject of their discussion was, a er crea ng the en re worldand man, “Where should we hide Divinity? ” In the word ‘God’, ‘G’ represents ‘Generator ’, ‘O’ – ‘Organizer ’, and

‘D’ – ‘Destroyer ’ – the three aspects of crea on, sustenance and destruc on. The three aspects represent Brah-ma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

Brahma said, "Let us hide Divinity on the moon; that iswhere man cannot reach." Vishnu said, "You might havecreated man, but you are not able to comprehend thepower of his intelligence." Vishnu said, "Using this power

of intelligence, he can even reach the moon. So, there isno point hiding Divinity on the moon." Then Maheshwarasaid, "Let us hide it in the depths of the ocean where manwill unable to reach." Vishnu said, "Man can y as a birdin the sky. He can also swim like a sh in water, but to

nd his own Divinity – he ‘s incapable of doing it! There isno point hiding Divinity in the bowels of the ocean, be-cause man will reach there also." As the discussions con-

nued, Vishnu said, "Let us hide Divinity inside man. Hewill never reach there." That is how the Lord hid Divinity

    within the heart of man.

If you want to know Divinity, there is no use searching for Him in the outside world. Sai Baba is within you, notoutside. What is inside, search inside. ‘Sai’ means, ‘See Always Inside ’. Only then can you know God. Look inside, only then will you see. You will nd ‘Baba ’ – ‘B’, bliss, ‘A’, awareness; ‘B’, being, and ‘A’, Atma. That is the embodi-ment of Atma. B -A-B-A, Baba, means Bliss, Awareness, Being, Atma. This Sanskrit shloka also describes Him as thevery embodiment of Sat, Chit, Ananda. Shivoham, Shivoham. He Himself said, "I am the embodiment of Sat -Chit-Ananda." You have to understand that Sai Baba is none other than Being, Awareness, Bliss, Atma. If you controlyour body and senses, turn you mind inward and look inside, you can nd Sai Baba within yourself.

Pu aparthi was like a primary school. In primary school, therewas a primary school syllabus. What was that syllabus? The sylla-bus was, "God is here. God is here." When people from all overthe world came to Prasanthi Nilayam, many of them asked theques on, “Does God exist? ” I taught them the lesson, "God ex-ists."

If you ask the ques on, "How does God look?" I also demonstrat-ed that God is the form of sel ess love. You have understoodthat. Now we have come to high school, where we have to studythe high school syllabus. What is that syllabus? “God exists notoutside, but inside. ” When you study this properly, next you go tothe university. In the university, what are you going to learn? Youare going to learn, “I am God. ”

“God exists. ” That was primary school. “God is not outside; Godis inside. ” This is high school. The third is the university whereyou realize, “I am God. God is me. ” I have come here with the purpose of teaching you this lesson. I am teachingyou these high school lessons. You need not go anywhere. You have to realize that God is within you. See all thisinside. Develop true love in your heart. Having love in the heart is not enough – the head should have thoughts oflove and hands also should be involved with ac ons of love. Through the hands, do service, and in the mind, havesacred thoughts. In the heart, have sel ess love. When all the three – head, heart, and hands get together, Godwill manifest for you. This is My message to you. I have not gone anywhere. I am always here. I am inside you aslove. Develop love, demonstrate love through service, and then look for Me. I will manifest for you.

This is My message to you.I have not gone anywhere.I am always here. I aminside you as love.Develop love, demonstratelove through service, andthen look for Me. I willmanifest for you.

Ques on: I have almost completed wri ng a book called “TheSpiritual History of Planet Earth ”. I now seek Your permission toalso write about Sookshma Baba in the book. May I do this, Lord?

Swami: When you write about the planet, there might be aneed for a book. To write about Me, there is no need for a book.Your life itself should become My book. The way you lead yourlife here onwards will speak volumes about Me and My exist-ence. It will be the proof of My presence in your life. I don ’twant any book. I want you to lead a life, and through your ac-

ons, words, and thoughts, you must bring forth My message oflove and service for humanity. Once you have lived a life like this

    – really demonstrated My love in your life – once your life itself

has become My book, then maybe I will permit you to write abook, too, so that long a er we all are gone, the book s ll re-mains for others to seek guidance from.

Ques on: Swami, I love you so much. How long has this yearn-ing to be before I merge in you?

Swami: Where are you going to merge in Me? This is here, this is now. What makes you not meet Me is only ali le bit of that wall called ‘mind ’ between us both. What is mind? Mind is nothing but a bundle of thoughts. Each thought is like a brick. All the bricks together make a wall. The problem is not that people love Me or wantMe. The problem is that we love so many other things and want so many other things as well. Each of the things

we like or want is like a brick in the wall. Unless all the bricks areremoved, you and I cannot meet and merge. Love only Me. Wantonly Me. Then you don ’t have to break this wall. I Myself will breakit down, and I will merge in you. You don ’t have to merge in Me.

Ques on: Swami always answers the prayers of earnest devotees. In 2011, when Swami was in the hospital, a lot of prayers weremade. The amount of prayers made was beyond anything that everhappened in the history of the world. What happened to these pray-ers? Is this manifesta on (of the Subtle Form) an answer to thoseprayers? Is there a mystery that Swami can shed light on as towhere all of this energy went that was directed in prayers for Swa-

    mi’s healing?

Swami: Focus your love and a ec on for Swami. You all prayedfor the well -being of Swami. What is Swami? Is Swami the body? For who? So what were you praying for, the well -being of the body?Or the well -being of Swami? If you ’re praying for Swami, Swami isvery well now. He doesn ’t have to carry the burden of the body. Theresult of all your prayers, rst and foremost, was your own puri ca-

on. As you prayed, the rst bene ciary of the prayer was you, be-cause it puri ed you of all your other desires. People said, “Swami

take my life, take the years le in my life, and You con nue. ” I replied, “I don ’t want to ask for anything. You justtake care of yourself. ” People did not ask for their own personal gains or desires. They only thought about Me,and they only wanted Me. You are the rst bene ciary of you own prayers. The second is this world, becauselong a er I le My body, I am s ll around. I s ll decide to be with My devotees and guide and protect them. Therefore, none of your prayers have gone unanswered.

The body had to go; it was an old, broken car. In America, people

replace cars every six months! Can ’t I replace once in 85 years? Now it is much more comfortable. I can do so much more work, much faster. The physical body slowed everything down. Now,things are much faster. I have no restric ons of day, me, circum-stances or place. I go everywhere, I give darshan to devotees allaround the world. Earlier, I could not have le Prasanthi Nilayamand be here with you this way. There would be devotees inPrasanthi Nilayam wai ng to see Me. I could not have disappoint-ed them, for they would have saved up all that they had just tocome to Prasanthi Nilayam and see Me. If I was not there, itwould not be right on My part to disappoint My devotees. So, I

could not have le that place even for a moment. But now, withthis body, I may leave there. I can go anywhere in no me.

All of us have these bodies. The Physical Body is the outermost cover. Then there is this Subtle Body, which con-sists of manas (mind), buddhi (intellect) and chi a (memory). These three cons tute the Subtle Body, and thenthere is the Atma, which is further beyond. Therefore, I am very happy. None of your prayers have gone unan-swered. It is only your prayers that now give Me energy. I already said, “Your bliss is my food. ” In this body, I can-not eat physical food. All the energy of your prayers sustains Me and allows Me the do My work now the way I ’mdoing. I know that My devot
