ANALYSIS: Alcohol content: 14.5% Contains sulf ites YEAR: 2015 Winemaking This wine is a blend of the five Rioja grape varieties which were vinified separately, as they attained optimum ripeness. Vinification aimed to enhance the virtues of each variety: the balance and elegance of Tempranillo; the fruit expression of Garnacha; the power of Maturana Tinta and the spicy freshness of Mazuelo and Graciano.After the final blend, the wine was aged for four months before bottling in 225 L French and American oak barrels tattooed with the values of Viña Pomal. Viticulture Rioja’s five varieties were used to make this wine, each contributing a different note to the blend. In order to leverage the distinctive characteristics of each variety, the grapes come from different soils in different areas in Rioja. The Tempranillo comes from clay-limestone soils in Haro, from the best plots of Viña Pomal; the Garnacha from high-altitude vineyards with gravelly soils in Rioja Media; the Maturana Tinta and Mazuelo from Rioja Baja, where they achieve perfect ripening, and the Graciano from alluvial soils in Rioja Alta. Vintage characteristics: The 2015 vintage in Rioja was marked by a very cold, wet winter with snow to ensure water availability in the vineyard. A storm in late spring comntributed additional water. Good spring weather and a very warm summer, brought the harvest forward, which, in general, brought top-quality grapes in excellent condition. Sensory characteristics Very intense garnet-red with bluish hues. Extremely complex nose, with aromas of red fruit, violets, white pepper and spices blending with light vanilla and coffee hints.Amiable, fresh and lively in the mouth, with great body and persistent fruit.
