GREETINGS FROM THE POST COMMANDER
Terrill Allies
As your new Commander, I am excited, and I’ll admit a bit anxious, about the upcoming year. However, I have some outstanding officers with me and that will make the job a lot easier. I am grateful to the many people who have offered their experience and advice, and I’m sure at some point during the year I will be leaning on you for that experience and advice. Many of you do not know me so I’ll offer a little bit of my history. I entered the active duty Army as a CH-47 Chinook Flight Engineer after high school. I was based in Germany, South Korea, and several bases state side. After seven and half years, I got out to pursue my dream of being a commercial pilot. I stayed in the
National Guard and Reserves eventually ending up at the 131st Fighter Wing at Lambert Airport as an Air Force Meteorologist. I was activated in 2003 and shipped to Kuwait as the US forces entered Operation Iraqi Freedom. I retired in 2008 after 26 years in the military. I work for the Federal Government here in Arnold. On May 21st, this Post had the exciting opportunity to host a ceremony for the family of a returning MIA Airman from the Vietnam War. The aircraft that TSgt Louis Clever was a crewmember on was shot down over Laos in 1969. The remains of several of the crew were recovered in 1970, however without the ability of DNA identification; the remains were interred together at Jefferson Barracks. In 2012, TSgt Cleaver’s son Paul went to Laos on his own money and recovered remains, some which were later identified as his father. Paul Clever interred his father’s remains at Jefferson Barracks.
Finally, I’ll offer a quote: “A king without an army is just a guy in a funny hat”. Without the members volunteering and working together to help our veterans and make this Post an enjoyable place that we are all proud of, the officers and I are just a small group of people with a title. This is your organization and it will require everyone working together.

A MESSAGE FROM THE AUXILIARIES
Ladies Auxiliary President - Janet Lorenz
Ladies, thank you for your vote of confidence again this year. I look forward to having another successful year in serving the needs of veterans and their families. Thank you to those ladies who have agreed to support me by accepting positions as officers and committee chairmen. We have much to do…..from sending care packages to our troops overseas, to holding fundraisers to support our programs. I am grateful to those of you who have worked with me over the past year. Ladies, our membership has voted to pay the annual dues for members over seventy years of age. Also, in celebration of our 75th Anniversary this year, the annual membership dues are reduced to ten dollars, if
paid before December 31st. A special thank you to those ladies who helped prepare and serve the food at the reception held at the Post on May 21st to celebrate the return of the remains of Viet Nam Veteran, Tsgt. Louis Clever, for burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. To hear the story given by his son, Paul Clever, of his dedication to the search of his father’s remains is an inspiration to all of us. He and his wife travelled to Laos to search along the Ho Chi Min Trail and were successful in finding the crash site. Amazing! As we celebrate Independence Day in July, let’s remember those veterans who have served to guarantee all of us the right of independence! Congratulations to all the new Post and Auxiliary officers. I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year.
Men’s Auxiliary President - Jay Ransom
Elections are over and I look forward to digging in and getting to work for our Men’s Auxiliary!
We have had a few new members come in and jump right into helping with our monthly Wing Ding Nights. Our next Wing night is on June 11th, starting at 6pm. Bring your appetite because we have been increasing our menu options, including chicken strips, as more people have shown up to help. Don’t forget that on those nights, it is ladies night with drink specials and in June the music will be done by Dustin Clark. So show up to eat and drink on June 11th and every second Thursday each month.
Congratulations to all new officers!

Greetings to all our Pup Tent Nits. I'm looking forward to another successful year working to help our
hospitalized veterans. I would like to extend my hardiest congratulations to one of our own. Butch
Bequette is the Grand Commander for Missouri for this year. I'm sure we can count on everyone working with him to ensure the state of Missouri does a good job. We have quite a few events coming up this year. There's a trip to the National Home for the Christmas party,
Five State Pow Wow, Supreme Convention in Pittsburgh, Tomb Trek and the barbeques at our State Veterans
Homes. I hope everyone has a fine summer and I'm sure we can count on all of you this
coming year.
Our auxiliary was recognized for our accomplishments in several categories for the past year at the Grand
Convention in Jefferson City including 1st place for Hospital, 2nd place for National Home, and 3rd place for
Membership. Kathy Anderson was selected as "Outstanding Hospital Chairman of the Year" and Diana
Ahearn was selected as "Outstanding Chaplain of the Year". And, I was honored to receive the most
prestigious award as "Outstanding President of the Year".
It is truly a team effort to not only meet, but to exceed the criteria for the competitions in each of these
categories. The end result is that we exceeded our primary mission of providing exceptional service to our hospitalized vet-
erans.
The local Veterans Golden Age Games competition will be held at Jefferson Barracks on Friday, July 24. If you would like to
volunteer for the event (Cooties will be providing the lunch), please let me know.
Mark your calendars for these upcoming MOC/MOCA functions:
June 6 - Grand Council of Administration - Jefferson City (immediately following the VFW convention). June 26-28 - 5 State Pow Wow - North Platte, NE July 24-26 - Supreme Convention - Pittsburgh, PA

Welcome Home T Sgt. Louis Clever
On Thursday May 21st the Post had the privilege of co-hosting an event with the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Gold Star Mothers, the Jefferson Barracks POW MIA Museum and the American Legion. The event was to welcome a Gold Star son, Paul Clever and his wife Nita. There was approximately 200 people in attendance. During the event several organizations involved honored Paul and his wife with mementos and proclamations for their determination and success in locating and bringing home his father, Tech Sgt. Louis Clever. Paul brought with him a movie of his search for the plane crash site and many artifacts from the site in Laos.
They’re story is quite amazing so I will share a short version of the story with you.
Tech. Sgt. Louis Clever was onboard an EC-47Q, for an airborne radio detection mission to intercept enemy radio signals and re-port their location when it was shot down by enemy fire over Laos in 1969. Clever and nine others were shot down and were listed as missing in action.
Four months later the crash site was located. The Air Force attempted to retrieve the remains of those onboard, but only recovered commingled remains. Those commingled remains were buried in a mass grave at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Paul asked the military to reopen the case to locate the remains, but his request was denied. Paul was only six when his father was killed and was looking for closure. When Paul became an adult, he founded the organization Maximum Recovery in Southeast Asia, with hope to locate the remains of his father, Louis. In December 2012, Paul and his wife, Nita, travelled across the world to the jungles of southern Laos to search for the crash site and recovered the remains of his father and others as well. Paul was escorted from Mississippi to the post by approxi-mately 60 Patriot Guard Riders. On Friday, May 22, 2015, 46 years after Paul’s father was listed as killed in action, Tech. Sgt. Louis Clever was laid to rest with his wife who never remarried and died in 2005, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Paul plans to continue his mission to bring others home. To follow his missions visit his Facebook page: MRSEA Maximum Recovery in Southeast Asia.
