R+D CENTRE
Based 30 miles away from Bar-
celona city and Airport, Virtual-
Fly´s Research & Development
Centre is located in a long
traditional industrial area and
cornered by several landing
options as Barcelona-Sabadell
Airclub (LELL), Igualada Aero-
drom (LEIG), a private airstripe
(LEMS) and a light sport airfield
with 400m of concrete runway.
SHOW ROOM
There is a space inside the
Research & Development Cen-
tre dedicated to show our last
products where everybody is
invited and welcomed. This
show room is also used to de-
monstrate the management of
the minimums necessaries for
offering full motion flight simu-
lators experiences to the mass
public.
WHO WE ARE?
FLIGHT SCHOOL
AirCatFly is an aviation contract
work & LSA flight school functio-
ning together with Virtual-Fly
in the same Corporate group.
It operates Aeroprakt A22, Dy-
namic WT9, Tecnam P96 Golf
and WWI biplane replicas for
LSA licenses, advanced training,
bush flying and flight tours. This
collaboration allows Virtual-Fly
a direct platform for product test
and development.
LSA AIRFIELD
AirCatFly also manages and
operates a local LSA Airfield
with 400m concrete runway
and platform; mogas fuel station,
bar-restaurant, maintenance, 16
hangars, covered lunch area and
children’s area. Its located north-
west from Barcelona city limit,
30 minutes away by motorway
in the main crossroads between
Mediterranean coast, Monegros
desert and the Pyrenees. 41º

OVO-04 5
THE BEGINNINGS
We started in 2004 as a natio-
nal brand doing the research
and development of our own
systems for full motion flight
simulators. During this time,
we were able to learn, execu-
te and modify the technology
that we offer today as well as
gaining the first customers.
The result of the evolution of
the different prototypes from
SimVol-01 to SimVol-04 and la-
ter the OVO-04 can be easily
appreciated below.
In 2004, we designed and pro-
duced our first flight simulator
device, SimVol-01. It had the
full motion system underneath
a cubic-shape cabin.
In 2007 we made our first flight
simulator cabin with the full mo-
tion system aside & inside the
cabin itself, the SimVol-03.
In 2009, we finished the Sim-
Vol-04, with the re-designed
exterior fiberglass shape but
with the design on the flight pa-
nel and interior as in the pre-
vious model.
2011, after 7 years of Re-
search and Development, we
applied aeronautical interiors
and full motion software im-
provements. The new OVO-04
was born and we were ready
to delivery it worldwide.

OVO-04 7
OVO-04 SKY IS EARTH
The OVO-04 is a full motion flight simulator with a heavy duty
steel base and frame and a custom designed futuristic fiberglass
exterior. The simulator runs precision motion software that has
been developed and continually updated since 2004. This
software creates an interface between Microsoft Flight Simulator
X and the axis of motion.
The OVO-04 is a single seat cabin and has three 24” screens
with the central screen in front of the pilot. The adjustable seat
slides forwards and backwards and facilitates the use of the
rudder pedals which are also adjustable. Two optional cameras
enable the instructor to evaluate the pilot´s performance. One
is oriented towards the face and the other towards the hands.
With quality trimmings, from the carpet to the seat, everything is
intended to make the user think and feel like a pilot.
The two axis pivot around the center of the cabin and not
underneath like some other motion simulators. With sixty
degrees of pitch motion and sixty of roll, OVO-04 offers a
combination of both to simulate the yawn motion effect. With
this configuration there is always a counterweight for each
movement thus reducing overall wear and tear as well as
energy consumption. Pneumatic and hydraulic systems are not
used and no preventive maintenance is required.
Roll, pitch, slide, acceleration, deceleration and banking on
both the runway and in the air are simulated; a vibration system
simulates turbulence, runway irregularities, engine stars and
landing impact. The motion software is always being refined
and experienced pilots are consulted regularly in order to have
valuable feedback to make the experience more realistic. A
recent innovation to the motion technology is slight shacking
before a stall. All of the updates can be integrated by distance
with a simple download. There are also several motion settings
depending on the pilot´s level.
All of the moving parts are located inside of the fiberglass
exterior thus making the simulator safe to use in public spaces
or during events while at the same time facilitating transport
and reducing safety distances. This helps decrease the
dedicated space requirements for flight training centres and
other operators. While VirtualFly has always been serious about
fun, it has created an anti-acrobatic function to stop pilots form
developing bad habits such as dangerously high banking turns
and other maneuvers that would be unsafe for the types of
aircraft intended to be simulated. When activated the motion
stops for one minute.

OVO-04HOW IS IT MADE?
MOTION IS EVERYTHING
Movement is what makes you feel like a spot inside a three-dimensional space. The Motion Software of
OVO-04 has been in constant developing since 2004. As a result you got a real feeling of roll, pitch,
slide, acceleration, deceleration, banking, turbulence, runway irregularities, engine start, landing impact….
pLUG-AND-FLY
All Virtual-Fly products pass a quality process at the factory and they are all flown for several hours before
being delivered to the final customer. The result is that our customer has no need of IT skills or any tasks
to start using the simulator and so they enjoy a fast, comfy and easy purchase and start-up process.
ENCLOSED CABIN
All of the moving parts are located inside of the fiberglass exterior thus making the simulator totally safe
to use in private locations, public spaces or during events while at the same time facilitating transport and
reducing safety distances. This helps decrease the dedicated space requirements for flight training cen-
tres and other operators. A simple difference, a brilliant engineering.
22 OVO-04
OVO-04 23
BUILT FOR LASTING.
1.000 KG LOAD STRESS TEST
Virtual-Fly products are based in a total opposition to the built-in obsolescence. In accordance with
the policy, the OVO weights one Ton and it is made with 850 kilograms of a solid steel structure,
fiberglass exterior and high quality finishes. As an example, every OVO unit has to pass a stress-
test consisting in supporting one Ton of weight on the pitch axis without flexing more than a few
millimetres. Once the test is successful the unit can continue in the construction process..
WHERE IS THE LIMIT?
That is a good question and Virtual-Fly works hard to get the answer. Virtual-Fly has an OVO-04 unit
on automatic flight twenty four hours a day, seven days a week in its factory in Spain. The unit has
so far more than 12,000 accumulated hours. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the operational
capability and lack of technical issues of the full motion flight simulator OVO-04 in extended use
situations such as those made by flight schools or virtual flight centres. This study also justifies Virtual-
Fly low operating cost of the simulator, the low technical training required for its daily operations and
its ability to meet Heavy Duty use.
