SERVICES AND BENEFITS FOR MILITARY AND VETERANS

CAREER SERVICESOur dedicated GW Office of Veteran Services provides support for benefit processing and specialized career support. Our online programs were designed with the flexibility of online and hybrid degree programs to accommodate the lives of military families and we guarantee deferrals for military deployments and obligations.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has placed one full-time, experienced Vocational Counselor on the GW campus. This counselor will serve as a “one-stop liaison” for veterans, active duty military and their eligible family members who attend or plan to attend GW. Examples of their assistance include:

• Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), and other VA and non-VA educational benefits

• Job placement assistance and referrals to state employment agencies and services

• Referrals to on-campus, community and VA resources to ensure academic success

TUITION BENEFITSGWSB’s financial commitment to active duty military and veterans through generous special scholarships from the School of Business, along with financial support available from the Post 9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program make graduate study here attractive and affordable and can provide partial to full funding. POST 9/11 GI BILLIn 2008, the GI Bill was updated with the enactment of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, giving veterans with active duty service on, or after, September 11, 2001, enhanced educational benefits that cover more educational expenses, provide a living allowance, money for books and the ability to transfer unused educational benefits to spouses or children.

YELLOW RIBBON PROGRAMThe Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program or YRP) is a provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Since the 2009-10 academic year, the George Washington University has been a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon Program.

This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to fund tuition expenses that exceed the maximum base pay amount. Military students are then eligible to receive this funding.

GRANTS AND FELLOWSHIPS

A wide range of graduate student support is available for qualified candidates, including assistantships, fellowships, scholarships, awards, loans, work-study, and cooperative education.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Active-duty personnel, veterans, or dependents of veterans may be entitled to varying educational benefits. To be eligible, veterans must have completed at least one year of active service in the U.S. Armed Forces, unless discharged under honorable conditions for medical reasons.

TILLMAN MILITARY SCHOLARSHIPThe Tillman Military Scholarship is nationally recognized scholarship open to both veterans and spouses of veterans.

GENERAL VESSEY GRADUATE ENDOWMENT FELLOWSHIPThe General Vessey Graduate Endowment Fellowship is intended to help further the academic careers of exemplary incoming and current master’s candidates in the School of Business on the Foggy Bottom Campus.

GWSB ADMISSIONS FOR VETERANSAdmission to any program at the School of Business is competitive. The admissions committee bases decisions on an applicant’s academic preparation and performance, GMAT/GRE scores, work experience, and strength of recommendations, essays, and interviews.
