Academic Year 2012-13 is being celebrated as Golden Jubilee year of VES. VES established in 1962

has completed five decades of eventful work. It is a matter of considerable pride and gratification

that VES, with its excellent track record has grown from strength to strength and has opened up

several educational institutions. Today, it has 26 institutions ranging from creche to professional

institutions.

During this Golden Jubilee year of VES, VESIT got Permanent affiliation from Mumbai University

for B.E. Courses. Intake of VESIT increased from 474 to 714. We got permission to introduce 2nd

shift programme and started B.E. Computer & MCA course. VESIT is now recognized as a Ph.D.

Centre for Electronics Branch.

I feel proud to inform you that, as a part of Golden Jubilee Celebration of VES, Former

President of India Honorable Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated our Hashu Advani Complex

on 11th March 2013. Former Deputy Prime Minister Shri. L.K. Advani graced VESIT and

unveiled the statue of Swami Vivekananda in our complex during February 2013. On 28th January

2013, Shri. Mohan Bhagwatji graced our institution and interacted with the students of VES for

Question-Answer Session and enlightened VES staff and students on his thoughts on Nation

Building. Shri. S. Mahalingam, Chief Finance Officer & Executive Director of Tata

Consultancy Services (TCS) visited our institute and shared his great experience of Finance, HR

& Technology with the students of VES. This interaction gave a cross functional perspective to the

budding engineers entering corporate world. Swami Swatmananda visited us on 7th Feb 2013 and

addressed our first year students and enlightened them about the movement “Transforming

Indians to Transform India”, started by the Central Chinmayananda Mission Trust (CCMT). On

25th March 2013 Mr. Koen Leekens, Managing Director, Exida Asia Pacific, Singapore will be

addressing our students on IEC 61511 Safety Life Cycle.

On 9th July 2012 VESIT organized “TECHNOLOGY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME” for

faculty members of University of Mumbai. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Naresh

Chandra, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University as Chief Guest, Dr. S. K.

Ukarande, Dean Faculty of Technology, University of Mumbai also graced the occasion as Guest

of Honor. The Programme included four short term courses on “Next Generation Networks

(NGN)“, “NI Lab VIEW & MULTI SIM”, “Multimedia System and HCI” and Emerging Trends in

Information Security

During the admission period, we conducted “Engineering Course Awareness Programme”

[ECAP] for all aspiring engineers with an objective to create awareness about various engineering

courses offered in VESIT. At the end of the programme parents and students were clarified about

the differences between various courses, their core applications and the opportunities for the

courses. A foundation Course was conducted for 1st year students. The course was designed as a

bridge course between 12th Syllabus and B.E. engineering course. The Course was conducted on

three subjects ie. BEE, Applied Mechanics and Mathematics by our expert teachers. The course

was widely appreciated by the students.

A Seminar on 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke) was organized for VESIT Teaching

and Non Teaching Staff on 25th October 2012. Mr. Girish Deodhar, Senior Deputy General

Manager, Electrical & Automation, Larson & Toubro presented the concept of 5S and shared his

experience of developing and cultivating culture of 5S.

In order to bridge the gap between industry and students, various industry interaction programs

were conducted during this year.

VESIT was one of the participants in the Automation Exhibition & Indian Automation Technology

Fair held in September 2012 & February 2013 respectively at the NSE ground Goregaon,

showcasing the newly developed infrastructure and labs in the new campus. This is the first time,

an educational institution has setup a stall showcasing their infrastructure in industrial

exhibitions.

VESIT was the proud venue for the EDIFICE 2012 – the two day technical conference organized by

EMERSON in association with Confederation of India industry (CII) on 5th and 6th October 2012.

The motto of the conference was to familiarize and enlighten the faculties and students over the

wide product range, technologies and business information. Conference consisted of Technical

Presentation, product demos and project presentations.

This year VESIT and Accenture has signed agreement of programme of mutual innovation.

Accenture Ltd. Installed 40 computers in VESIT-Accenture Innovation Centre at VESIT, which was

inaugurated by Shri. Hormouzd Madan, Sr. Vice President of Accenture Ltd on 19th July 2012.

As a part of Praxis “Theory to Practice”, Computer, IT and MCA students visited TCS Innovation

Labs (Thane) during 5th and 6th October 2012. A Work Shop on Network Security : Attacks and

Vulnerability, Accenture Expert lectures on Public Cloud, Java Servlets, PHP Workshop Hands on

Exercises , Hands on HTML & CSS , Linux Workshop for faculty were also conducted. “Microsoft

App Fest 2013” was conducted by Microsoft on 26th Feb 2013. This Workshop was the platform for

college students to design application for Windows 8 OS. Accenture conducted a 5-day workshop

on “Dot Net programming” in the Accenture Innovation Centre. The topic included was dot net

architecture & programming. A workshop on “Introduction to CAN Bus and its Applications”

was conducted by Mr. Jatin Chotalia of Global Technology on 11th & 12th February 2013. Our

Second Year Instrumentation students visited “DHRUVA: Nuclear Reactor” and Food

Technology Plant of BARC during Feb 2013. An Industrial expert lecture on “Field Transmitters”

was conducted by Mr. S.P. Mallick from Chemtrol Industries Ltd.

VESIT conducted test of F.E. and MCA students from 8th to 10th Nov’ 2012 for employability skills

through “NEST” (National Employability Skill Test) program of Aspire Human Capital

Management(P) Ltd. with the initiative of Mr. Sagar Havaldar, an alumni of VESIT. NEST is used

to test skills with different parameters including English grammar, verbal reasoning, logical

reasoning, abstract reasoning and personality and to assess his or her employability index.

I am happy to report that our faculty members Mrs. Asawari Dudwadkar, Mrs. Sangeetha

Prasanna and Mrs. Nilima Warke received Minor Research Grant from Mumbai University for the

year A.Y. 2012-13.

Learning beyond Syllabus and Exclusive Scholar Program are the two new initiatives started

during this year to help students to pursue studies in their areas of interest and beyond

curriculum. The student chapters of Professional Societies ISA, IEEE, CSI, & ISTE, organize

seminars, workshops, expert lectures by teachers and by expert from industry. Industrial

visit to Vinayak Steel Limited, Titan Energy Systems & Schneider Electric at Hyderabad, Siemens

Ltd at Goa, MG Dairy & Secure at Udaipur, Blue Star & Mutual Merceplast at Silvasa were

conducted during this year. These activities also develop management and organizational skills in

addition to the technical knowledge, thus equipping them with right tools to become tomorrow’s

leaders.

We do believe in creating opportunities for students and faculties to apply academic knowledge to

real life scenario. Three of our students got selected to participate in National level E-Yantra which

is an initiative by MHRD and IIT Bombay to improve the quality of robotics and embedded

systems in the country.

I am very happy to report that our students are continuously performing very well in Mumbai

University examinations. Our first year over all pass percentage was 68.31 in the last academic

year where as university pass percentage was 39.35. Our final year degree results for this year

were also remarkable. The over all pass percentage of Final Year students in Electronics Engg.

Branch was 97%, Computer – 99%, Instrumentation - 91 %, Elect. & Telecomm. – 93% ,

Information Technology – 97% and MCA branch was 100%. We have impeccable track record of

achieving good placement year on year. This year also was not an exception. A total of 26

companies visited campus in this year and Percentage of Job offered was 84.98. Our students are

effectively groomed to become well rounded professionals and our placement records bear

testimony to this fact.

Alumni Meet of this year was conducted on January 05, 2013. About 150 ex-students participated

in this event. They were indeed very impressed with the changes that had taken place in VESIT

and very nostalgic about the time they had spent here. The Meeting served as platform for current

student council members to interact with their seniors and share experiences.

Department of MCA of VESIT conducted inter college Technical festival ‘SPARC 2012’

(Stimulating Perfection And Redefining Creativity) on January 12th and 13th 2013. Students from

all MCA colleges in Mumbai participated in various technical competition organized during the

festival.

The overwhelming acceptance of our graduates by the industry has given us the confidence that

we are progressing towards the destination of becoming a world class institution. We also

recognize that mere education or technical competence is not the only trait that is needed for

students; they need to be interactive and aware of the realities of life. Our student council activities

are concentrated in this direction. VESIT students got 2nd prize at Group Dance Event &

Yashashri Shiral got Best Actress Award at “MANZAR” organized by ICT. Parteesh Kalla got 1st

Prize in Guitar Play Competition at SPIT.

The social responsibility team of student council organized two blood donation and health check

up camp during this year. Our students visited the village of Chinchpada in Shahapur district,

about 5km from Atgaon station. The sole intention of the visit was to spend the day with the

children creating awareness about hygiene and healthcare. The student conducted the day’s event

in collaboration with AASTHA health care, Mulund and Rotary club of Mulund hillview. A

project to revive the borewell water supply in this area with the help of Gram Panchayat is on the

anvil.

Workshop on “Cyber Safety ” was conducted by Mumbai Police (East Region) on 18th January

2013 at VESIT. Special lectures were delivered by Shri. Md. Quaiser Khalid, Additional

Commissioner of Police (East Region) and Shri. Lakhmi Gautam Deputy Commissioner of Police,

sensitizing the importance of Cyber Safety.

7.1.1 BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (B.E) (DTE CODE : EN3185)

The Bachelor of Engineering course is of four years which are further divided into eight semesters. The first year (F.E.) course spread over to two semesters deals with general engineering common to all branches of engineering. The basic objective is to give the elementary foundation needed in different aspects of engineering. During second year (S.E.) and third year (T.E.) , students gain basic knowledge in the chosen branch. The Final year i.e. fourth year (B.E.) is designed to strengthen the specialized skills, and students learn to apply the concepts studied earlier by participating in “ project work “ . The subject and the syllabus are as prescribed by the University of Mumbai.

7.1.2 MASTER OF ENGINEERING (M.E.) (DTE CODE : ME 3185) The M.E. program comprises of four semesters of study. Duration of the course is two years. The courses are designed/prescribed by the University of Mumbai. The number of seats offered are as mentioned below:

Approved Intake for Academic Year 2013-14 Regular First Shift Intake (100% CAP) M.E.- Electronics & Telecommunication. 18 M.E.- Instrumentation & Control 18 M.E.- Information Technology 18 Eligibility :- As per DTE, Mumbai University & State Government Rules 7.1.3 MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (M.C.A) (DTE CODE : MC 3185) Master of Computer Application (M.C.A) course is a full time course of 3 years (6 Semester) duration. The course is conducted as per the syllabus laid down by Mumbai University. Examinations are conducted by the University for all the 6 semesters and the degree is also awarded by the University of Mumbai.

7.2 GRADING SYSTEM OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI.

Mumbai University introduce Credit & Grading System with effect from academic year 2012-13. All information about pattern and syllabus is available on Mumbai University’s official web site www.mu.ac.in

Salient Features : 1. Final grade for B.E. Degree will be given as an average of all eight semesters. So each

semester/each subject is important. 2. 75% attendance is compulsory. 3. Journal submission must be done on or before every term end. 4. Two tests will be conducted in the model of the University exam in a semester for

internal assessment of each subject. Average of the two scores will be considered for declaring final grade in the subject and will be printed in the final mark sheet. No retest shall be held.

5. Failing in eight heads in a year is the maximum limit for ATKT system. (Maximum five theory exams and remaining Prac./Oral/Internal etc.)

6. Failing in submission of Journal in any subject (even for a single subject) will result in detention (i.e. loss of one year). Re-admission in the next academic year is to be taken with repayment of fees.

7.3 EXAMINATIONS : The University of Mumbai conducts examination in every semester, and class tests are conducted periodically by the college. The performance in these tests is taken into consideration while giving the term-work/sessional marks to the students. The submission of term work in each subject should be taken very seriously. If a student fails to submit his/her Term work or Sessional work before the prescribed date, he/she will not be allowed to sit for the concerned examination paper. The students will not be issued the Hall Ticket if they fail to produce the clearance from Library, Workshop and Laboratory. The results of internal tests are posted to the parents/guardians regularly so that they may be able to take interest in the academic progress of their wards.

7.4 ATTENDING LECTURES/LABS

a. Students coming late to the Institute will not be allowed in the classes. b. Bunking the classes is not allowed in any case. If the student misses even one

period, he/she may be marked absent for the whole day. c. In order to monitor the academic progress as well as the overall development of

our students, we nominate one staff member as faculty advisor to whom a student can approach for guidance. For day to day functioning, one class teacher and one class counselor is also associated with each class. The students as well as their parents are welcome to contact either the class teacher/class counselor or the faculty advisor any time during the session.

d. While the lecture or the lab is in progress, a student is supposed to keep his/her mobile phone switched off failing which severe punishment can be given.

e. After their classes are over, the students should leave the premises in proper disciplined manner without making any noise or crowding the corridors.

Students should submit the following undertaking at the time of admission.

I assure you that I will abide by all rules and regulation laid down by the Management of this Institution, Directorate of Technical Education (M.S.), University of Mumbai issued from time to time. In the event of failure of these, I shall render myself for disciplinary action including expulsion.

I have not been debarred from appearing at any examination held by any Government constituted or Statutory Examination Authority in India.

I fully understand that the offer of a course or branch of engineering will be made to me depending on inter-se merit and availability of a seat at the time of scrutiny of my application, when I report to the admission authority according to the schedule of admission.

I understand that no other document, other than those attached to the application form before the last date of admission will be entertained for the purpose of claims/concessions etc. in connection with my admission.

I understand that no refund of fees shall be made if I cancel the admission after commencement of the classes and if the seat due to cancellation is not filled.

I hereby agree to confirm to any rules, acts and laws enforced by Government including Anti-Ragging Act and I hereby undertake that so long as I am a student of the institute, I will do nothing either inside or outside the institute, which may result in disciplinary action against me under the rules, acts and laws.

7.6 USING UNFAIR- MEANS IN THE EXAMINATIONS

During an examination, if a student is found either possessing any material (written or printed) for intention of copying or actually copying he/she is liable to be severely punished according to the rules laid out by the University. In such circumstances, a student may either be debarred from appearing in the entire examination or expelled from the University of Mumbai for a minimum period of three years as per the decision of “ Unfair - Means Committee “.

8. PROHIBITION OF RAGGING

Ragging within or outside the institute is strictly prohibited. Any student who directly or indirectly participates in, abets or propagates ragging within or outside the institute shall face strict disciplinary action as per the provision of Maharashtra Prohibition of RAGGING ACT, 1999.

If a case is to be made as per law the following procedure is to be followed:-

Investigation by squad

Findings reported to the Principal

Discussions with committee by Principal to decide whether: - To go for FIR (within 24 hrs) with Police or Local Authorities- OR - Whether punishment to be awarded by Anti-Ragging committee of VESIT

Punishments may be in the form of :

1. Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.

2. Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits

3. Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process.

4. Withholding results.

5. Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet,

tournament, youth festival, etc.

6. Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel.

7. Cancellation of admission.

8. Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.

9. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other

institution for a specified period. Where the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are

not identified, the college will resort to collective punishment.

The department is a member of Cadence University Program; subscribed to cadence VLSI design suite, running on SOLARIS-8, on Sun V240 servers & Sun-ray 1g thin clients. This lab has been set-up with contributions from Sun Microsystems under matching grants program, for educational institutes.

This is the main lab of our dept., where the study of some major process control instruments /equipments is done. This lab covers mainly the digital and analog I/O PLCs of Allen Bradley and Technimount companies , PC based flow and level process control loop, Ellipse SCADA based Ratio and Cascade controls and pilot plants set ups, Differential Pressure Transducer (DPT) Calibration set up , I/P Converter, Control Valve Positioner, Control Valve Sizing set ups, and Hydraulic and Pneumatic trainers.

TRANSDUCER LAB This lab is equipped with all the latest transducers used in the industry

BIOMEDICAL /ANALYTICAL /NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTATION LAB This Laboratory has been established to familiarize the students with the capturing analyzing and processing different bio signals. Biopac is an integrated instruments which the students use for such experiments. Physiology Lab kits and digital temperature feed back system are also used for training the students in the area of Biomedical Instrumentation.

17 COMMON INFRASTRUCTURE :

17.1 LIBRARY

Our library boasts of more than 39,000 books and journals of national & international level. Along with technical updates via latest journals, students can also keep themselves abreast with the latest happenings in the world via News Paper, Magazine & Internet facility. The library is divided in two sections :

1. Reference Book Section :- This section stocks recent editions of text books. Student can borrow one book at a time against their Library Identity Card. The books/journals in this section are meant for Reading- Hall only. The question papers of previous examinations conducted by the University of Mumbai are also available in this section.

2. Lending Section :- Students can borrow two text books for home lending from this section. Generally the students can get books for one week. A fine will be charged if a book is not returned within a given time.

The students are required to abide by the following rules of the Library . Any violation of these rules will lead to a fine or punishment by the Principal.

a) Every student must submit his/her valid identity at the entrance of the library and the reading room. Ex-students of the college, who are members of Alumni Association, can use the library facilities.

b) Pencil or ink marking and writing on the pages of the library books or any other way of mutilating the books will be treated as library indiscipline. The first reader will be held responsible unless he/she points out to the Librarian at the time of issue of the book.

c) The reference books, journals, question paper sets, Dictionaries etc. will be issued for reference in the Reading Room only and on no account they should be taken out of Reading Room.

d) Students must refrain from disturbing their neighbors in Library & Reading Hall. e) The student should immediately inform the Librarian any loss, damage of book

borrowed by him/her on the library card. f) Any other matter not covered by these Rules will rest at the absolute discretion

of the Principal and Librarian. g) Student should not bring their precious belongings to the Library. If such things

are lost, the Library will not be responsible for it. h) Students should maintain complete silence in the Reading Hall. i) Students should contact the Librarian if they face any problem regarding usage

of library facilities. They should not argue with the staff on duty.

17.2 OTHER FACILITIES

Separate Project rooms are provided for each department with the laboratory facilities and computers installed. The students can carry out their project work even after the college hours.

Seminars and Student presentations are held in the Conference Hall, with a seating capacity of 250 students. It is equipped with a good sound system along with video and data projectors.

VESIT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AND RESEARCH CENTRE (VESLARC)

To be successful in today’s world of severe competition and stress, it is necessary to have the right attitude and positive thinking. At VESIT, the students are helped by the specially appointed faculty of VESLARC to develop a strong personality with leadership qualities.

MUSIC CLUB

Free classical & light music classes are arranged for the interested students. Lessons are given in Hindustani style of music - both vocal & instrumental such as Flute, Violin, Guitar, Tabla etc. Kathak dance is also taught. Students can learn and practice after the college hours.

In order to be successful, one must have a competitive spirit and a positive attitude towards

learning from mistakes. To nurture and promote this competitive spirit, VESIT organizes PRAXIS

every year, our annual inter-collegiate technical festival which has an extremely competitive

Robotics event and has become a much awaited event among engineering students and is gaining

popularity not only in Mumbai University but courses of other Universities also. PRAXIS also

develops a sense of team spirit and event management skills along with a sense of belonging.

Cultural Activities: In spite of all these activities, the college does not neglect cultural talent.

UTSAV: The College organizes UTSAV, a cultural festival that showcases cultural talents. It

On Technology day, we organize project exhibition and poster competitions for our final year and

pre-final year students who actively participate and demonstrate their research ability as well as

SoRT – Social Responsibility Team

Every person in the world has a will to help to improve the society but due to personal constraints

or the lack of proper platform, they might not be able to do so. The inception of “SoRT – Social

Responsibility Team”,was precisely to channelize these small efforts into a larger stream. SoRT

tries to spread happiness in whatever way it could. We hope that our sincere efforts have planted

Exclusive Scholar Programme

Exclusive Scholar Programme is program launched in Jan 2013, envisaged for academically bright

students who interested in any extra practical/ study project beyond curriculum .These students if

needed can be given exemption in either theory or practical classes, as per the evaluation of the

student and the requirement of the extra project work by the mentor /subject teacher.

Looking Beyond Syllabus Programme

Looking beyond syllabus was launched in the year 2011 with an aim to expose the students to

emerging technologies and opportunities to work as teams on multidisciplinary projects under the

mentorship of a faculty member assigned to them.

The main objective of looking beyond syllabus of technical education is to infuse in prospective

technocrats the ability to apply basic science and experimentation skills to understand problems in

22. DISCIPLINE

Discipline is the key and watchword of Vivekanand Education Society in order

to inherit and maintain discipline in all walks of life. All the students admitted in the first year (F.E.) of the institute will have to give an undertaking regarding observance of general discipline and decent behavior during all the four years of engineering.

22.1 IDENTITY CARDS

Every newly admitted student, whose admission is confirmed, must get the I-Card from the Office of the Principal. He/she must wear this I-Card at all times. Without I-Card, entry from the Main Gate as well as to other premises

is not allowed. I-Card must be presented by the student as and when asked for by the college authorities.

Every regular student at the beginning of a new academic year, must get a new I-Card by surrendering the old I-Card. Without old I-Card, new I-Card will not be issued.

22.2 LOSS OF I-CARD & ISSUE OF DUPLICATE I-CARD

In case of loss of I-Card, students can obtain special permission from the Principal which is valid only for 3 days for entering in the Institute premises without the I-Card. Thereafter, a duplicate I-Card is issued on payment of a prescribed fee. Any student using an I-Card (Original or Duplicate) without the signature of the Principal or without the Institute Rubber Stamp will be penalized only.

22.3 EX-STUDENT’S I-CARD

Ex-students can obtain Ex-student’s I-Card, if they desire to take advantage of the Library facility. Entry of Ex-students is permitted only during a specified time on working days.

22.4 LIBRARY & OFFICE TIMINGS

The Library remains open on all working days during the term from 8.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. The students can also use the Library facilities for extended hours and on holidays during preparatory leave and on examination days. The office timings for students are from 11.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., excluding lecture/Lab/Tutorial timings.

22.5 USE OF SPORTS GROUND

Students desiring to use the sports ground have to ensure that they adhere to the Rules & Regulations strictly. The students are not allowed to play while the lectures/practicals of respective classes/batches are in progress.

22.6 HOLIDAYS & VACATIONS

A list of the holidays is displayed on the notice board. A notice regarding “ Vacation “ is issued and displayed from time to time as per the intimation from the University. Please be noted that the vacation period is liable to change from time to time and students should be prepared for such exigencies.

22.7 RAILWAY & S.T. BUS CONCESSION

Students aged upto 25 years & less can avail for concession for railway journeys between the stations near to the place of their residence in Mumbai and the College and for journeys between their place of permanent residence (where the students or his parents normally reside as declared in their application form for admission) and Mumbai during vacations. Concession forms for Local Railway tickets are issued from the Office of the Institute on working days.

The long journey concession form will also be issued only for the vacation period. The students should write their local & permanent home town address in the application form, for availing this concession. Concessions are being made within three days from the receipt of their application.

22.8 HOSTEL

Hostel accommodation is available for boys and girls separately. It will be provided on first-come-first -served basis. Preference will be given to outstation candidates. Before going out of station, the hostellers are required to take a permission letter from the class teacher/class councilor, and submit a copy of the same to the Warden.

22.9 SAFETY PRECAUTION

Safety instructions issued from time to time by teaching faculty should be followed strictly by the students while doing their practicals. In case of a mishap, the entire responsibility shall lie on the student concerned and the Institute will no way be held responsible.

22.10 LOST AND FOUND

The Institute authorities will not be responsible for any damage to the property or possessions of the students. However, articles lost and found are deposited in the office, and are returned to the concerned student after identification.

22.11 DRESS CODE

Students are supposed to be in decent dresses and footwear suiting Indian Culture. Indecent revealing, sleeveless, tight fitting short and gaudy dresses and T-shirts with indecent messages and pictures will not be permitted. Students should maintain proper hair style to depict a positive personality.

22.12 CLEANLINESS OF PREMISES

Students should not scribble anything on the walls, furniture etc. Strict action will be taken against the erring students and if not detected, a common fine will be levied to the entire class. Breakage of furniture will be treated in the same manner. All the students should strive for cleanliness of the premises and help in the better maintenance and upkeep of the institutional property.

22.13 INDULGING IN ANTI-SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The students while studying if found indulging in anti-social, anti-national activities will be liable to be expelled from the college without Notice.

22.14 CHEWING PAN/TOBACCO AND SMOKING

Chewing pan/tobacco or smoking in the institute premises is strictly prohibited.

22.15 USE OF ELECTRONIC ITEMS/GADGETS

Students are prohibited from bringing Camera, Mobile Phones with camera, Pocket Radios, Record Players, Other electronic gadgets etc. If they are found with the students, the college authorities can confiscate such things and may take strict action against the students concerned. Items like Camera, Mobile Phones etc. may not be returned to the student. Other electronic gadgets/equipment which is needed for Project purpose can be brought in with proper permission and documentation.

22.16 REFUND OF CAUTION MONEY

On completion of the course, an application for refund of caution money should be made (along with F.E. fee receipt) within the same financial year. Unclaimed caution money will be forfeited. Life membership fee for alumni will be deducted from the caution money.

22.17 LOCKER FACILITY

Locker facility for the first year students is provided on first-come-first-served basis. The student should forward an application for using this facility for which he/she has to pay a locker fee.

22.18 RETURN OF ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES

All original certificate like Mark Sheets, Passing Certificate, Caste Certificate, Domicile Certificate etc. will be returned to the students after all the admission formalities with the University /DTE are completed. Normally, these certificates are returned to first year students in the month of March/April.

22.19 OFFICE DISCIPLINE

Students are advised to look at notice boards for various circulars/notices etc. displayed regarding payment of fees, commencement of examination and other matters of academic interest. Whenever dates have been given for payment of Tuition Fees/Exam Fees etc.

student should pay the fees well before the last date. This will avoid penalty as well as inconvenience to them.

Students should not come to the Office for Railway concession or any other matter while their theory classes /practicals are in progress. Further, whenever they come to Office, they should maintain proper discipline and decorum and they shall always follow the Queue system and shall not crowd near the counters and should not block main entrance & exit points.

22.20 GRE/TOEFL/GATE/GMAT etc.

Students will not be allowed to stay away from college for the sake of preparation of GRE/TOEFL/GATE/GMAT or other forms of competitive examinations. It may be noted that students need to plan their time well in advance so that it does not affect their academic calendar. Students so desiring to appear, will be permitted for a maximum period of 15 days, provided their academic record and attendance in the semester is satisfactory.

22.21 CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

All co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the college will be held only after the regular college timings. No activities will affect the regular working of the college. Seminars/symposia/conferences/workshops of the student’s professional societies will also be held only after the regular college hours. Students desiring to participate in local and out station technical seminars, paper presentation contests, project exhibitions and other competitions will have to take prior permission. Appropriate arrangements will be made by the Institute in such cases.

22.22 PICNICS & OUTINGS

Students will not be permitted to organize/participate in private picnics/outings even on Sundays/Holidays without the written consent of the college Principal. All picnics/outings have to be authorized and accompanied by college staff. Any failure to comply with the rule will lead to strict action.

22.23 INTERNET USAGE

Internet facility is provided to our students at various places. Students are required to use this facility only for academic purposes and not for any other

purposes like chatting. Misuse of this facility & indecent behavior on the NET is liable for punishment and strict action.

22.24 THEFT

Students found stealing other’s property or institutional property will be severely dealt with. If the institutional property/facility is damaged/stolen, the entire batch of students will be penalized and the cost will be recovered as deemed fit.

22.25 SUGGESTION BOX

The suggestion box is provided outside the Principal’s Office. The students can use it for their problems, suggestions, complaints etc.

22.26 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Birthday celebrations of fellow students are not allowed inside the class or within the premises or in the vicinity of the college.

22.28 PRINCIPAL’S SIGNATURE

Students should come to Principal’s Office for signature or for attestation during the recess time or only after their theory classes/practicals are over.

The above conditions are as per the Rules & Regulations of the Institute and all students should strictly follow them. Strict action will be taken against the student, if he/she fails to observe them.

Any matter not covered by these Rules will rest at the absolute discretion of the Principal.

Vivekanand Education society was privileged to have the presence of Honorable Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam former President of India for the Golden Jubilee celebration on 11th March 2013.

He inaugurated the Hashu Advani Memorial Complex (HAMC) at Collector’s colony and addressed the youth and faculty of Vivekanand Education Society at VES Degree College Grounds. Delving straight into the topics he wished to speak on, he addressed various topics like dynamic university, uniqueness of a person, high ambitions and the secret to a happy India.

According to Dr. Kalam uniqueness can be achieved through a combination of qualities like aiming high, gaining knowledge, hard-work and perseverance. He defined knowledge as :

Knowledge= Creativity + Righteousness in heart + Courage

Aiming low is the biggest crime. He motivated the students to fly high through various real life inspirational stories. His message to young children was to make their mother and father transparent which would make a happy family and the happiness would spread to the society, the state and ultimately the country.

After the speech there was an interactive session in which the following questions were addresses:

1. What can we student do at grassroot level to fulfill your vision 2020 dream? Ans: Student should excel in education and that would be the best contribution from their side. 2. Don’t you think that Indian education system is marks oriented and does not encourage creativity? Ans: Yes, I agree that the Indian education system needs improvement but emphasis should be on primary education. There is need for developing creative learning environment at the primary school level and less focus on academics. 3. Tell us your views regarding women empowerment? Ans: The key lies in women being actively involved in law making. 4. Who was your role model in your younger days? Ans: My primary school teacher inspired me to think creatively and fly high. 5. Sir, we talk about the growth in technology but are the people growing looking at so many scams coming

up? Ans: There are 200 million families in India, out of which 60 million families are corrupt. In every family there is a father, a mother, 2-3 children. If the youngest child has the courage to tell his father he is wrong only then can India become corruption free. 6. How do we stop Indian people from migrating to foreign countries? Ans: I personally don’t believe in ‘Brain Drain’. In today’s world people moving from one to another country is not an issue.
