Oracle Database Estate Upgrade for Global Bank

Challenge: This global bank needed to apply critical patch updates to their 1300 Oracle databases for the terminal release of Oracle 10g. This is in order to allow for the latest patch set updates (PSUs) which incorporates critical security updates. Failure to upgrade the databases would result in significant security vulnerabilities and performance issues relat-ing to bugs which may remain in the earlier releases. Moreover, limited support would be available to the customer from Oracle until such time as this environment met with upgrade requirements. This project was also being driven by ITEC and Sarbanes-Oxley governance requirements.

Version 1 ensures continuity of service, security and compliance to global bank’s critical Oracle servers.

Benefits: The global bank now has an Oracle estate that has been patched and can be maintained with critical security updates as they are released. They have the security of mind that risks to disruption of service to their mission critical systems have been significantly reduced. The customer is also assured of compliance with the governance requirements set out by ITEC and SOX. From a technical standpoint the knowledge gained during the mobilisation phase was used to educate and provide technical expertise and invaluable client-oriented leadership to the programme team.

What does Version 1 do for the client? We selected a dedicated project team of Oracle Technical consultants and project managers to work with the clients’ project team and off-shore resources; a total of 17 individuals. Two streams of activity were managed over seven months;

to run in parallel with mobilisation. Version 1 provided increased technical resource, and used learning’s from the mobilisation project to inform the programme and maintain technical excellence in delivery.
