Keith walks in when he hears this and immediately covers hisears and hums.

KEITHHoney, you know that I am anofficer of the law and I do notcondone unlawful actions in myhouse.

VERONICAGet the list of Neptune studentsfrom our class.

MACThese names certainly bring backfond memories.

JOANNAVeronica, I asked Neptune’sguidance counselor to stop by.She’s been at Neptune for years andI thought she could help us narrowdown the search.

Doorbell rings.

JOANNAThere she is.

Veronica opens the door, and sees Rebecca James.

REBECCAVeronica.

JOANNAMs. James.

JOANNAI’m glad you found the place allright. I was worried you wouldn’t.

VERONICACome in.

Rebecca walks into the living room and sees all of theNeptune High alums. She also eyes Keith in the kitchen. Theyexchange glances, and Keith exits for his room.

JOANNAMs. James, is there a Neptunestudent from the class of 2006 thatcould potentially be a murderer?

LOGANBesides me.

Veronica cuts in and does not allow Rebecca to answer. Shehands Logan and Wallace a list of names from the Class of2006, as well as a list of Neptune High’s notorious studentswith criminal records from the past fifteen years.

WALLACEThere are a lot of names here, V.

VERONICAWallace, you and Logan get the lastnames N through Z. Mac, Jo, and Iwill get the first half.

Joanna reads the list and finds a familiar one.

JOANNA(to Mac) Who is PadraigFitzpatrick? He was expelled andrepeated the 12th grade threetimes.

MACHe’s Liam’s younger cousin. He

stuck around Neptune for the drugtrade.

Joanna remembers going to the construction site withVeronica.

VERONICA(to Logan and Wallace)

Talk to them. Find out where theywere on the day of Jake’s murder.

Joanna exits. Veronica and Mac exit. Rebecca is left in theliving room when Keith pops his head in.

Rebecca smiles.

REBECCAI was planning on staying in andwatching a reality show of twocatering services battling it outto see who can throw the bestparty.

EXT. COLLEGE -DAY

Logan and Wallace have found MADISON SINCLAIR.

LOGANOh, there’s a concept. I didn’tknow Satan’s minions were capableof human emotion.

Logan waves and they both walk away.

Wallace notices Madison’s obvious interest in Logan.

Veronica and Mac are seated in a restaurant across fromCORNY, wearing an ill-fitting suit, with his hair slickedback and a serious face.

CORNYIt’s good to see you, Veronica. Ihope you’ve been well since ourdays together at Neptune High.

VERONICAUh...Well enough, thanks. Youlook...different since I last sawyou, Corny.

CORNYSince graduation I’ve started myown business and am now asuccessful Internet....

Corny looks down at his hand where he has written the word"entrepreneur."

CORNY(mispronounced)

Entrepreneur.

Veronica is confused, but also thinks Corny’s newfoundInternet success might connect him in some way with JakeKane’s death.

VERONICAReally?

Corny grins and starts laughing.

CORNYNo! I’m a busboy here. But didn’t Itotally fool you? I’m practicingfor our five year high schoolreunion. It’s gonna be so Romy andMichelle. I thought I’d practice onyou. Keep it on the DL, though,okay V?

VERONICAYour secret is safe with us.

INT. HEARST COLLEGE - CAFETERIA - DAY

Veronica and Mac are sitting at a table when Dick walks by.

VERONICADick. sit.

DICKYes, ma’am. You know, Veronica,some people think you’re just coldand bossy, but I find yourassertiveness incredibly hot. Soare you ladies looking for a playernumber three in your littlemenagerie twa? I’m in. But nocuddling after. My room or yours?

Veronica is angry and annoyed.

MACDo you mean ménage à trois?

DICKI flunked French, okay? God. Sorry,grammar police.

VERONICAReally, Dick? You honestly think Iwould proposition you for athree-way?

DICKWhy else would you and Ghost Worldwanna talk to me?

MACI can’t decide if you’re superblynarcissistic or just a completeidiot.

DICKI like to keep you guessing. Mymysteriousness is part of my charm.

LIAMDanny, you believe this kid?

Danny gets real close to the dealer’s face and moves hislips and facial features. Danny laughs at the funny faces heis making with the dealer’s face. The phone rings at River

Styx, and Liam answers it.

DANNY(mockingly)

Are you telling the truth?

LIAM(on the phone)

Yeah. You can have it Wednesday.

Joanna sees Liam writing on a small notebook while he is onthe phone. He finishes his phone conversation and hides thenotebook somewhere behind the bar.

LIAMNow, where were we?

Liam walks back to where Danny and the dealer are. Joannacrawls to behind the bar counter. She is looking for thenotebook when she hears a yelp. She pokes her head up to seeLiam choke-holding the dealer. She continues searching forthe notebook and finally finds it.

LIAMNow, repeat after me. I will notcome up short of my month’s target.

Joanna begins to crawl towards the door. She desperatelyneeds to get out. She looks to her left and moves her righthand forward. She doesn’t realize the mouse trap in front ofher and her hand gets caught. She immediately retractshitting the wall lined with alcohol, knocking a few over.Liam and Danny direct their attention to the noise. Theywalk behind the counter and find Joanna freeing her handfrom the mouse trap.

LIAMWell, lookey here. We’ve caughtourselves a mouse.

DANNYHey, it’s Veronica’s friend.

Joanna has been discovered. She frantically slings the mousetrap at the Fitzpatricks and runs out the front door ofRiver Styx. She runs down the street, but the Fitzpatricksare right behind her. She turns into another street and

climbs up a fire escape, above the line of sight of theFitzpatricks. They continue to run down the street as Joannalooks down from above.

INT. VERONICA’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Veronica, Mac, and Wallace are in Veronica’s room trying topiece together the clues.

WALLACEWe’ve got nothing.

MACAnd we couldn’t reach everyone.Veronica, what are we going to do?

WALLACEThere’s gotta be something else inthose emails.

MACThey mention thirteen. Betting andstealing thirteen.

WALLACEBut we know that. Jack’s number was13 in high school but that didn’ttake us very far.

VERONICAWhat if thirteen meant somethingelse? He accuses Jake Kane ofstealing.

There is a knock at the door. Veronica answers and finds afrightened Joanna.

JOANNAVeronica, I need your help.

CUT TO:

Veronica is yelling at Joanna while Mac and Wallace arepresent.

VERONICAThe Fitzpatricks?! Were you bornstupid, or did you have to work tobecome this thick?!

Joanna holds up the Fitzpatricks’ notebook.

MACWhat’s that?

JOANNAIt’s a notebook with all of themerchandise the Fitzpatricks havesold this year. If they did sellexplosives to Jake’s murderer thenmaybe we can get a name.

VERONICADo you have any idea what you havedone?

JOANNASolved the case.

VERONICAThe Fitzpatricks are looking foryou right now, and they’re notgoing to stop. They would KILL youto have that book back.

Joanna is terrified now.

VERONICAC’mon.

JOANNAWhere are we going?

VERONICAThe safest place I know.

INT. LOGAN’S SUITE-NEPTUNE GRAND - NIGHT

Logan is sitting on his couch when he hears the doorbellring. He opens the door and finds Veronica and Joanna on theother side. Logan is surprised.

LOGAN

Veronica.

CUT TO:

Veronica and Logan are in his bedroom alone.

VERONICAThe Fitzpatricks are probably outthere looking for her.

LOGANShe can stay here as long as sheneeds to. She’ll be safe.

Veronica and Logan make eye contact. She is quiet. Being inthis room brings back old feelings.

VERONICAI should go.

Veronica exits Logan’s room and enters the living room whereJoanna is seated watching the news.

NEWS (V.O.)A strong thunderstorm withtorrential rain is expected to hitNeptune. We urge everyone to stayinside.

Logan looks at Veronica with a desire to protect her, andkeep her inside from harm’s way.

INT. RESTAURANT- NEPTUNE GRAND - NIGHT

Keith and Rebecca are seated at a table near the window.They hear the news on the television near the bar and lookoutside the window. It begins raining. They smile at theunforeseen circumstance. The waiter comes.

WAITERMay I take your plate sir?

KEITHYes. Can you bring the checkplease?

The waiter exits with the plates. Rebecca and Keith raisetheir champagne glasses and kiss.


Mac and Wallace are in Veronica’s room. Mac is typing"thirteen" in the search engine, and scrolls down theresults.

MAC(to Wallace)

Interested in the perfect gift fora thirteen-year-old?

Wallace is reading the Fitzpatricks’ notebook.

WALLACECheck this out. Liam sold two packsof C-4 to a website account.

INT. LOGAN’S SUITE-NEPTUNE GRAND - NIGHT

Logan and Veronica are seated on the couch, while Joanna isasleep in a chair nearby.

LOGANIt seems like just yesterday it wasyou that had the Fitzpatricksgetting their fighting Irish on.Looks like you’ve passed on yourlegacy.

VERONICAI know it looks like I’m straddlingthe line between concern andhypocrisy here, but I admit I wasonly slightly less idiotic than Jowhen I decided to confront theFitzpatricks on my own, and I atleast had a Tazer on me. You mayrecall that little reconnaissancemission almost ended with megetting a shamrock tattooed on myface by Liam. Not to mention youpulling a gun on him.

There is awkward silence. They both question how they havechanged.

VERONICASo how’s Trina doing these days? Ihaven’t seen her in the tabloidslately.

LOGANYeah, well, after milking the wholeAaron Echolls scandal for all itwas worth I think the paparazzi gottired of her. Now she’s back toplaying supporting roles inLifetime movies and trying to gether autobiography published.

VERONICAYou’re kidding.

LOGANIf only. I suggested she call it"Exploiting Your Circumstances andFamily Fame to Compensate for aLack of Talent: The Trina EchollsStory," but I think she decided ona title that was on the shorterside. And with fewer words shedoesn’t know. (pause) So how areyour classes going this semester?Are you still working as a TA?

VERONICAYeah, I’ve been taking a couplegrad level courses that are takingtheir toll on my sleep schedule,but that’s why God invented RedBull. What about you? Got all yourrequirements for your Economicsmajor?

JOANNA(to Veronica)

Just kiss him already.

Joanna continues to have her eyes closed. She is fakingsleep. To break the awkward situation, Veronica moves to thebalcony. The rain has settled down, and Logan joins Veronicaon the balcony.

LOGANReady to get out of Neptune?

VERONICAOh yeah.

LOGANVeronica, there’s something that Ineed you to hear. (pause) I amsorry for the harm that I’ve causedyou. I am so sorry for any pain Ibrought into your life.

VERONICALogan, now is not the...

LOGAN(the most sincere we’ve ever seenLogan) Veronica, I am sorry. Iunderstand if you can’t forgive me,but the only thing that I want isfor you to be happy. If that meansbeing with someone else then I’llbe the first to support it. I loveyou, Veronica, and I just want tosee you smile again.

VERONICALogan...I’d be lying if I said Ididn’t sometimes think about howthings used to be between us and ifwe could have that again, but itwould never work. This is it. I’mleaving Neptune. In a few monthsI’ll be long gone, and you’ll moveon, too.

LOGANCome on, Veronica. There’s nothinghere for me. I’m not asking if youwant to move in together and gosofa shopping at Ikea and getmatching jogging suits, I’m justsaying I’ll be around as long asyou want me, and however you wantme.

Logan is disappointed, but accepts Veronica’s response andtries to hide his sadness.

rest. I’ll get some blankets.

Logan exits and leaves Veronica to contemplate theirconversation.

INT. VERONICA’S APARTMENT - DAY

Mac is on the computer. She is looking at softwaredevelopment forums and reading discussions between two usersabout a software written by username, "Polly13."

Wallace is seen at the whiteboard writing various facts.

CUT TO:

Mac is still at the computer. Her head is down. The screenhas a message, "Restoring Deleted Files." Sunlight isstarting to shine through the closed blinds. The computerbeeps waking Mac. She lifts her head and clicks on thebutton "open page." On the screen, there is a website titled"Software Thirteen." She scrolls down to the end of thewebpage, and finds the website’s creator. It’s a familiarname: SEAN FRIEDRICH.

INT. LOGAN’S SUITE-NEPTUNE GRAND - DAY

Veronica is asleep on the couch. Logan is on the other endasleep as well. Veronica’s cell phone rings.

MACVeronica, "Thirteen" is a software-A revolutionary one. I’m looking

through it right now and it looks alot like THOMAS- the software JakeKane released. It’s amazing.(pause) Veronica, the software’screator is Sean Friedrich.

Veronica hangs up the phone and looks up at Logan.

VERONICAI know what happened.

CUT TO:

EXT. APARTMENT - DAY

Logan, Veronica, and Joanna pull up to a broken downapartment building.

VERONICAThis is the address his dad’semployer gave.

LOGANWell, let’s go.

All three exit the car and enter the building.

CUT TO:

They are in front of Sean’s door.

JOANNASo, do we kick the door down?

Veronica knocks, and SEAN FRIEDRICH, former Neptune HSclassmate and son of a butler, answers the door.

SEANVeronica Mars. I knew you wouldshow up. I’m surprised it took youthis long.

Veronica pushes the door open, and the three enter.

SEAN (cont’d)more funding, so I sent them ademo- mailed to "the suite." Threeweeks later they announce amulti-million dollar campaign forthe software I developed! Where was

my cut?!

SEANIt doesn’t matter. Come midnighttonight, six million dollars fromthe Kane Software account will betransferred to an untraceableaccount in Canada, and you’ll neversee me again.

JOANNAYou really think that’s it?Veronica will find you.

SEANLet me tell you a little bit aboutVeronica Mars. NO ONE likes her.Veronica accused Aaron Echolls ofmurder. She ran our class presidentand heir to the Kane empire out ofthe country. Her nosey detectivework caused Mayor Woody’s death.The Mars name has caused uproar andruined lives. (to Veronica) Neptunewould be a better place withoutyou.

Logan moves a little to the left distancing himself fromVeronica to get a better angle of Sean.

SEANI should just shoot you right now.Everyone would thank me.

Logan lunges at Sean from the side. A shot is fired.Veronica pushes Joanna down. Jo clutches her arm. They areboth on the floor when the gun escapes Sean’s hand. Loganand Sean struggle. Sean sees Veronica reaching for the gun,so he pulls the rug causing the gun to go up in the air andland farther away. Sean then pushes Logan off of him hittingVeronica in the process. He looks for the gun but realizesit is in Joanna’s possession. She has it pointed at him.

JOANNABecause of you, my father is injail! He was accused of murder andlost his job.

Joanna looks at Sean with anger and disdain. After a pause,she hands the gun over to Veronica.

VERONICAJo, call the police. Logan, tie himup.

FADE OUT

Neptune police and paramedics are outside the apartmentbuilding. Veronica is the phone with Clarence Wiedman.

VERONICAClarence, it was Sean Friedrich. Hehas scheduled a 6 million dollartransfer from the company’s accountto his tonight. I’m sending hiscomputer over to you to stop thetransfer.

Veronica hangs up. She sees Joanna sitting in the back of anambulance

VERONICAYou O.K.?

JOANNAYeah, it just grazed me.

VERONICAYou are not officially in Neptuneuntil you’ve been shot at orroofied.

JOANNASean was going to makemillions, but someone else beathim to it. Is it always about themoney?

VERONICAYeah.

JOANNADo originality and ideas have aplace any more?

Veronica remembers something.

VERONICAJake Kane did not initiate thedevelopment of their new software.

In the hallway, Veronica and Logan meet up with privatedetective, VINNIE VAN LOWE.

VERONICAVinnie.

VINNIE VAN LOWEVeronica Mars did it again. Youbeat me to it. I really wanted thatmillion dollar photo of me handingthe perp over to the feds, but you,(points exaggeratedly) you’re asharp one, V.

VERONICADon’t let the hair color fool you.I’m still much, much smarter thanyou. And I bet I have fewercommunicative diseases.

VINNIE VAN LOWEHey, have you been reading mymedical records again? I got itfrom a public toilet seat, okay?Yeesh.

VERONICAHonestly, it’s a miracle you’restill employed. None of theseharassment lawsuits stuck, huh?Shame.

VINNIE VAN LOWEYou sassy thing, you. So tell meVeronica, what’s your secret? Pixiedust? Do you have an inside man? Isit true?

VERONICANo.

Veronica slams her hand against the wall nearby.

VERONICADon’t ask me about my business,Vinnie.

VINNIE VAN LOWEYou’re slick. (He leans in)Youalways have to bring the partydown, huh?

Veronica and Logan walk away.

VINNIE VAN LOWEYou got this one Veronica, but thenext one’s all me, baby.

Veronica reaches into her bag and turns around to faceVinnie. She holds up a pen with a microphone inside whichVinnie dropped in her bag.

VERONICAReally, Vinnie?! Really?!

She throws the pen at him.

Logan leads Veronica out the door. They exit the Sheriff’soffice and are greeted by a group of reporters and Neptunecitizens. She walks out with Logan, expecting the worst fromthe town she’s uncovered so many secrets. Instead, she isgreeted with cheers and applause as the pair walk down thesteps into a waiting car.

INT. KANE SOFTWARE - DAY

We see Jake’s VP, Caleb Fox, walking the halls of KaneSoftware. He enters his office and finds Clarence Wiedmanwaiting for him. Clarence dramatically closes the door.


Veronica, Mac, Wallace, and Keith are in the kitchen talkingabout the Kane murder case.

Keith is reading an article in tomorrow’s edition of theNeptune Daily about Veronica’s involvement in the Kane case.

VERONICA(motioning to Wallace)

Ladies and gentleman, our stategovernor.

KEITHYou know honey, it’s a shame you’rerunning off to become a big-shotFBI agent, because you would make afabulous sheriff. I would love topass on my legacy.

MACWait, you got the job at the FBI?

I’m going to be bumming rides offyou until teleportation isperfected, FYI.

VERONICAMaybe the feds will hire you, too,Mac Daddy, so you an be the Q to myBond. I’m sure they’d want to hireanyone who’s gotten as far as youin hacking into various networks.

Keith puts his hands over his ears.

KEITHLa la la! Not listening....to anypossible felonies of which you arespeaking. (Pause) Okay, that’s it.I declare it to be time forcelebratory cake! Who wants icecream with theirs?

INT. KANE HOUSE - DREAM

Veronica is in the Kane house, and does not understand whatis going on. She turns around and sees a portrait of theKane family. She hears her name in the distance.

LILYVeronica, can you hand me thatremote?

VERONICALily?

LILYUm, duh? Is there another dead bestfriend you talk to in your dreams?

LILYI am at peace, silly. It’s youthat hasn’t found peace yet.

VERONICAWhat do you mean?

LILY(sigh)

Veronica, are you happy?

VERONICA(faking it and unsure)

Yeah. I mean, as happy as anyoneelse, I guess.

LILYCome on Veronica, are you reallyhappy?

VERONICANo one is ever truly happy, Lily.

LILYVeronica, you’re graduating todayand you’re joining the FBI- you’relife is just beginning. I rememberwhen I had a future.

INT. HEARST COLLEGE - DAY

It’s Graduation day, and Veronica is in full gown.

DEANGraduates, as you move onward and

forward, remember your times atHearst College. Remember the goodand the bad. Hearst has preparedyou well as you transition out intothe world. Class of 2010,Congratulations.

Veronica leans forward and looks to her right. She sees herfriend Mac and they exchange smiles of excitement. Everyonethrows their cap into the air.

Veronica is trying to make her way through the large crowdof students and parents when she runs into PIZ.

VERONICAHey.

PIZHey there.

There is awkward silence.

PIZCongratulations.

VERONICA(smiles)

You too. Plans?

PIZMoving to New York. I got a joboffer with a radio station.

VERONICA(genuinely happy)

Keith exits and Wallace approaches Veronica.

Wallace pulls out his pilot’s license.

Veronica runs forward to kiss Logan. They embrace.

EXT. VERONICA’S APARTMENT - DAY

Veronica, Mac, Wallace, Rebecca, and Keith are gathered inthe parking lot outside of the apartment complex. Logan

enters.

LOGANIs this the last bag?

VERONICAYep.

Logan lifts the last luggage and loads it into the car.Veronica turns to her father to say goodbye.

KEITHWe’re really gonna miss you aroundhere, sweetheart.

VERONICAI’m going to miss you, too, Dad.(to Backup) Backup, you’re incharge while I’m gone. Keep Dad outof trouble, okay?

KEITHYou better visit soon.

VERONICAI will.

KEITHSay, next week? I’m serious. I’llfire up the hibachi.

Logan and Veronica enter the car and drive away. As Logan isdriving, Veronica turns to look at him. She admires him inthe glistening sun.

VERONICA (V.O.)Logan and I decided to take itslow. He offered to drive me downto the FBI LA office fororientation. I would be there aweek and then I’m off to Quanticofor training at the Academy. Loganwasn’t going to join me inQuantico. He said he needed to puthis feet on the ground first.

Veronica looks around as they drive past the town she’slived in for most of her life.

VERONICA (V.O.)Ah, Neptune. Murder, betrayal,corruption. Yes, Neptune is amagnificent place to raise thekids. Is it possible to find thatcomfort item in the rubble, thatteddy bear, or blanket, after thestorm? I say yes. Even aftercollisions, smudges, and slightalteration in appearance, it stillprovides that feeling of securityand love. Everyone wants that. I’msorry is that mushy? Well, you knowwhat they say Veronica Mars, she’sa marshmallow.

Veronica leans in and turns on the radio. "We Used to beFriends" by The Dandy Warhols plays. Logan wraps his armaround Veronica. They pass a sign, "You Are Now LeavingNeptune, Come Back Soon."
