$15 Million to Help Communities Boost Solar DeploymentIn support of the Administration's goal of doubling renewable energy generation for asecond time by 2020, the Energy Department announced on April 17, 2014 $15 millionto help communities develop multi­year solar plans to install affordable solar electricityfor homes and businesses. New York Completes Smart Grid Project As part of the Obama Administration's broader efforts to strengthen critical energyinfrastructure and build a stronger, more reliable power grid, the Energy Department recently recognized thecompletion of New York Independent SystemOperator's (NYISO) smart grid and controlcenter project in Rensselaer, New York.

Vermont News Local Production for Local Use is the 'Biofuel' Model That Works in Vermont A scale­appropriate model of local bioenergy production for in­state use is being pioneered by farmers and researchers. Theseemerging renewable energy resources include switch grass forheating, algae production for biofuels and wastewatermanagement, and oilseed crops for on­farm biodieselproduction, equipment use, and animal feed. Welch Unveils Push to Make Electric Vehicles More Affordable andAccessibleRep. Peter Welch unveiled new legislation thatmakes electric vehicles more affordable for middle­incomeVermonters and easier to purchase. Regional and National News Super­Green Machine Organic Transit CEO Rob Crotter has created a futuristic 150­pound vehicle that takes a seven­hour charge of sunlight (or 90minutes via outlet) and takes off at 30 miles an hour. It gets theequivalent of 1,800 miles per gallon. And it sets you back nearly$5,000.

Nissan to Offer Free Public Charging to LEAF DriversNissan today announced the expansion of its successful "No Charge to Charge"promotion, which will provide two years of no­cost public charging with the purchase or lease of a new NissanLEAF. In total, Nissan will launch "No Charge to Charge" in 25 U.S. markets, which are currentlyresponsible for more than 80 percent of Nissan LEAFsales.

431 Electric Vehicles Gather in Montréal to Set Guinness World RecordThe Centre National du Transport Avancé (CNTA) put together an event that brought431 electric vehicles to set a new Guinness World Record for largest electric vehicleparade.

Denza All­Electric Vehicle Production Model Premieres in China At Auto China 2014 in Beijing, Shenzhen BYD Daimler NewTechnology Co. Ltd, presented the world premiere of theproduction model of its Denza; the first all­electric vehiclefor the Chinese market produced by the first Sino­Germanelectric car joint venture.

Scottish Car Clubs Take on Electric VehicleThe Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation has launched thefirst car club electric vehicle in Edinburgh, based at ECCI's lowcarbon site in the city's Old Town.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES Clean Energy Development Fund Request for Proposal for CommunityRenewable Energy ProjectsHelp your community go solar! Competitive grants of up to $125,000 are availablethrough CEDF for community solar photovoltaic and wind turbine installations. Youcan find the request for proposal forms on the CEDF Webpage for furtherinformation. Any questions on the RFP must be made in writing and are due by 4 p.m. April 9, 2014, and responses to questions will be posted on the CEDF webpage. Proposals are due by 4:00 P.M. on Friday, May 9, 2014. Advancing Clean Vehicle Technologies in New YorkThe New York Truck ­ Voucher Incentive Program (NYT­VIP) is a $19 million 'firstcome ­ first served' incentive program funded through the New York State EnergyResearch and Development Authority (NYSERDA) that aims to accelerate thedeployment of alternative fuel vehicles and diesel emission control devices (DECDs)for medium to heavy duty commercial fleets in New York. NYT­VIP comprises ofthree unique funds that will be administered in different stages throughout the three­year program. By promoting the use of advanced vehicle technologies, NYT­VIP willhelp reduce diesel emissions and promote a more fuel independent New York.Vendors (dealers) that market and sell alternative fuel vehicles and DECDs canapply for a voucher incentive to reduce the cost to the Vehicle Purchaser. Once theVehicle Purchaser receives the new vehicle or DECD at the discounted rate, thevendor will be redeemed the full voucher amount. For more information click here. Propane Mower Incentive ProgramThe Propane Mower Incentive Program offers up $1,000 for qualifying originalequipment propane mowers and $500 for qualifying propane conversions. A list of thequalifying equipment is available on the website. All conversions must be EPA and/orCARB certified. The applicant must agree to provide PERC with a season's worth ofmower performance and fuel usage data in exchange for the incentive. For landscapecontractors, fuel costs play a huge role in profitability. With the Propane Mower

Because of this, the National Alternative Fuels TrainingConsortium (NAFTC) is excited to announce a limited number of firefighterscholarships to obtain FREE online Electric Drive Vehicle First Responder SafetyTraining. The NAFTC's award­winning Electric Drive Vehicle First Responder SafetyTraining online course will equip firefighters with the knowledge they need to safelyrespond to automotive incidents involving electric drive vehicles, including:

­ Hybrid Electric Vehicles ­ Plug­in Hybrid Electric Vehicles ­ Battery Electric Vehicles ­ Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

Participants in the self­paced, eight­hour Electric Drive Vehicle First ResponderSafety Training online course will learn about different electric drive vehicleconfigurations and their built­in safety systems, how to identify an electric drivevehicle at an accident scene, battery technologies, electric vehicle systems, andhow to approach, assess, and secure advanced electric drive vehicles. Participantswill also complete online modules for personal protective equipment and gear, crashand fire, and extrication. For more information click here.

Go Vermont Grassroots Grants For Energy CommitteesThe Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) Public Transit Section is offeringgrants to municipalities to assist in building a statewide outreach and advocacynetwork for the Go Vermont Program (www.connectingcommuters.org). VTrans willprovide a $500 grant to participating municipal energy committees. Go Vermont is aweb­based clearinghouse for all transportation modes in Vermont, featuring anautomated carpool, vanpool and public transit matching service, a vanpool program,information for State Park and Ride locations, and a link to "511" traffic conditions.The project objectives are as follows:

Broaden Go Vermont outreach effortsBuild relationships with local committees and advocatesIdentify local and regional transportation priorities and activitiesIncrease traffic to the Go Vermont website and tools(www.connectingcommuters.org)Focus regional and local initiatives and advocacy efforts.The ultimate goal of this program is to increase program awareness, carpoolregistrations, numbers of van­pools and general activity on the Go Vermontwebsite.
