On 30 May, 23 members of our DCS community cast off their old life to express great joy and faith in Christ Jesus. Baptism makes use of many an-cient symbols. The water, which is the
source of life for all of us, symbolizes the new life in Christ being cleansed from sin. The candle taken from the Paschal candle is the light of Christ that animates our lives. The baptised learn-ers later remarked:
"I felt as though I was in heaven because I was so full of Joy for Christ." SIFISO
"I was afraid at first of being baptized but was overjoyed when baptism was given to me." KATLEHO

FROM THE HEADMASTER'S DESK
As 23 of our learners were baptised this week I was reminded of the Sacrament's
wonderful affirmation of our choice to live a Christian life. As with the later Sacra-
ment of Confirmation, these are milestone choices that define who you are and
where your life is headed. For every child at Dominican there are diverse oppor-
tunities to make supported choices about the direction your life will take. Let us
rejoice in having choices, as so many South African children find themselves with no
options, and many more lack the education to make the right choice when it comes
their way. With examinations only a week away, one choice to be made now is how
hard to prepare for them, and I remind all that success from hard work opens up
more doors to greater choices in the future. Don't waste your opportunities!

This week the school hall echoed with the magi-cal world of mathematics as DCS Grade 7 learners shared ideas on "A World without Mathematics” with their peers from Sacred Heart College and Lyndhurst Primary
School. Learners explored Consumer Maths, Olden Day Maths, Dyscalculia, Maths and music , Maths and sport, Maths in the kitchen and Great Math-ematicians. A variety of attitudes and values were brought to the fore, mak-
ing our learners aware of the power of Mathemat-ics. After speech delivery, learners were enthralled with a problem-solving activity on the Ipads that honed in on critical and lateral thinking.
