Verifone Downloader to Remove Certificates

Purpose

The “Verifone Removes Certificates Utility” is a small download file that repairs the TrustStore certificate

store on the terminal. It works by deleting the existing TrustStore from the terminal that contains the

expired certificate, and then the TrustStore is rebuilt with a list of trusted root certificates that have not

expired.

As a precautionary measure, this utility has been programmed to remove any root certificates that expire

prior to the year 2020. The utility is signed by the Verifone System sponsor and does not require

resigning by a client specific sponsor. The utility addresses the rebooting issue by removing the expired

certificates that trigger it.

This utility does not install any applications or executable files on the terminal, nor does it update the

CommServer application itself to the most recent version. The utility is designed to provide temporary

resolution to the rebooting issue until the year 2020, when the next root certificate is expected to expire.

Affected Devices

Terminals running CommServer Versions prior to version 5.4.4 or the VX 680 and VX 820 Duet running

SoftPay with Comm Server prior to 4.9.3 could be affected. This issue is not solved by power cycling the

terminals. VX terminals (VX 520, VX 805, VX 820, VX 820 Duet, VX 680, VX 690 and VX 675) and e

Series terminals (e315, e315m, e335, e355) with CommServer software prior to version 5.4.4 or 4.9.3

could be impacted by this issue.

Dial Download instructions Steps 1 – 6 (above) are the same as used for TCP/IP connection. Please reference the steps above. The

phone number shown below is for the Verifone download servers. If you do not pull updates from

Verifone, please use the Phone Number and Terminal ID of your Acquirer. If the phone number is

already present in the terminal then you should use the number instead of changing to the numbers shown

below in the document.

Note: It is possible that information already exists for a dial download. Please confirm it is correct below

(Step 10). If its not, select 1> Edit to enter information.

7) Select 1 for Modem.

8) Enter the Host Phone Number. For the Verifone phone number

use 18007842813 or 18888325712. If you have a phone number in

the device then you may be setup with your Acquirer’s phone number.

NOTE

If the information in your terminal is blank than call the support number for your

credit card service. This is often shown on a label on your device. They will be

able to assist you with the phone number and terminal ID.

NOTE

There might be a case where the merchant needs a value in front of the phone number

to get a dial tone. Standard dial prefix values may be a 9 or an 8. In that case, the

phone number would be 9, 18007842813, for example. They will enter the prefix,

followed by a comma, and then enter the phone number.
