Today’s Verbal: Participles

Look like verbs in the past or present tense, but are actually adjectives.

Adjectives modify nouns and pronouns, so participles modify nouns and pronouns.

Types of Participles

Past participles end in –ed or –en.

Example: The forgotten boy cried until his parents came back.

Forgotten describes boy.

Present participles end in –ing.

The running jaguar captured its prey.

Running describes jaguar.
