Venture Capital Firms Show Decrease in
Funding
Frank Evanshen is an entrepreneur with a successful history of operating and selling small business operations.
He helped to develop marine positioning technology for Offshore
Systems International, a system that still is used by the U.S. Coast Guard today. Additionally, Frank Evanshen has founded and managed a number
of companies, including the venture capital firm MMC Meridian
Capital Corp.
A report released by CB Insights found that, for the first time in five consecutive financial quarters, the
funding for venture capital companies has dropped slightly. Compared to this time last year,
support for venture capital firms is down by 14%. The drop-off is
thought to be relatively insignificant, however, and is not yet a cause for serious concern.
More positively, analysts were encouraged by a rise in the total
number of technology IPOs. In all, 22 new IPOs went public this quarter, representing an 83%
increase over the same quarter in 2012.
