VenTESOL (Venezuela Teachers of English to Speakers of Other

Languages) is a non-profit organization aimed at English Teachers

in Venezuela, whose mission is to develop expertise in English

teaching and learning. Its main objectives are to:

Promote the ELT research

Strengthen the English language teaching and learning at all

educational levels in Venezuela

Promote and spread research studies in the ELT field

Work collaboratively with other teacher organizations with

the same interests

VenTESOL exists thanks to volunteer work done by its members

who are actively involved and committed to its mission. Such

voluntarism is not easy as most members are full-time teachers,

sometimes holding two or more jobs.

As part of VenTESOL's professional development program, we

organize regional and national events all over the country, which

is divided into seven different regions:

Region 1: Aragua, Carabobo, Guarico and Cojedes

Region 2: Lara, Portuguesa and Yaracuy

Region 3: Anzoategui, Nueva Esparta and Sucre

Region 4: Apure, Barinas, Merida and Tachira

Region 5: Amazonas, Bolivar, Delta Amacuro and Monagas

Region 6: Distrito Capital, Miranda and Vargas

Region 7: Falcón, Trujillo and Zulia

Our annual national convention is a very successful event and it

always takes place the last weekend of May. It's the biggest

event for the year. The annual VenTESOL National Convention

brings together over 700 professionals.

In order to continue the mission started 33 years

ago, VenTESOL calls volunteers to be nominated as President, 1st

vice-president, 2nd vice-president, 3er vice-president,

Communications Coordinator, Editor, Secretary and Treasurer for

the term 2015-2016.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

*These are one-year posts only.

The President will officially represent VenTESOL. He or she will

lead all meetings of Board of Directors of the Association. In his

absence, the duties will be assumed by the First Vice-President,

who may in turn be substituted by a Second Vice President. The

President shall appoint special committees as the Board deems

necessary for the proper functioning of the organization. In

addition, the Chairman shall have the broadest powers of

disposition and administration and will work for the Association to

incur the obligations arising from acts or contracts signed. For

this position, it is mandatory to be a member of the current Board

and to have a degree in ELT. Previous experience in VenTESOL

Regions is required.

The First Vice-President shall be responsible for the duties as

may be delegated by the President and will be the liaison

between VENTESOL and TESOL INTERNATIONAL, association

located in Alexandria, Virginia, USA; IATEFL, association located

in the United Kingdom, and any other organization at which

VENTESOL can be associated. The 1st VP will present annual

reports. An ELT degree is mandatory for this position. Previous

experience in VenTESOL Regions is required.

The Second Vice-President shall be responsible for the

organization, planning and development of the program of the

Annual National Convention, as well as the Annual Assembly. This

position requires experience and skills in the organization of

events. Previous experience in VenTESOL Regions is required.

The Third Vice-President shall be responsible for the

organization of the subsidiaries of the Association. He or she will

organize, keep and lead regional working teams in their local

responsibilities. He or she will liaise with publishers and similar

entities. Previous experience in VenTESOL Regions is required.

The Communications Coordinator shall keep members

informed about news, updates, events and academic projects

organized or led by the Association, and/or organizations related

to the ELT area. He or she shall be also responsible for the

creation and maintenance of all spaces and virtual networks

available to keep informed and communicated to all members.

The Communications Coordinator shall maintain liaison with

the editorial team and SIG groups. Previous experience in

VenTESOL Regions is required.

The Editor shall lead the Editorial team and the Special Interest

Groups (SIGs). The Editing team will be dedicated to designing,

producing, editing and publishing academic materials; organizing

online events, discussions, forums or webinars; as well as

distributing web or printed resources. SIGs will be dedicated to

promote professional activities, research and studies through

meetings, publications, and other organized activities in specific

areas of the English language teaching field. Experience in

managing social media and publishing is required. Previous

experience in VenTESOL Regions is mandatory.

The Secretary shall be responsible for all minutes,

correspondence and official documents, and also keep in order all

records of the Association. He or she will also manage

registrations for regional and national events. Previous

experience in VenTESOL Regions is required.

The Treasurer shall submit annual financial reports in written

form as well as the available budget for the following year. He or

she will manage the funds of the association needed to carry out

all activities. Previous experience in VenTESOL Regions is

required.

REQUIREMENTS

Be a Venezuelan university graduate, in-service or retired

English language teacher

Have a 4th level degree in the ELT area or being currently

pursuing studies in the field (mandatory for President and

1st Vice-president; desired for the other positions)

Excellent command of the English Language (all positions)

Excellent communication, group management, face to face

and online social skills (all positions; social communication

and web skills are mandatory for the Communications

Coordinator and Editor)

Accountability skills (mandatory for Treasurer)

Excellent organization skills

Be enthusiastic about VenTESOL's mission, dynamic, pro-

active, disciplined and committed to volunteer work

Be willing to work under pressure

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ALL NOMINEES

Passport photo. The photo must be saved under .jpg format.

Curriculum Vitae (main supports, such as university

degrees, must be scanned and added)

An essay written by the nominee mentioning the position for

which he or she is being nominated, why he or she considers

is the right person to lead that position and 3 main projects

to be developed if s/he is successfully elected.

VERY IMPORTANT!

1. These are non-paid positions.

2. Current Board members can be nominated to be re-elected in

their positions or they can be nominated for another one.

3. All interested must email us the requirements no later

than Monday, May 25, 2015, to [email protected]

4. Candidates’ documents will be published on VenTESOL’s Ning

and main website for members to read.

5. Elections will take place on the National Assembly which will be

held at Universidad Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho on May 30th,

2015.

6. Your attendance is very important. Only votes of convention

attendees will be considered.
