The Andes MountainsThe Andes Mountains are the longest and one of the highest mountain ranges in the world.

The CondorThe Iguana

The Mountains are home to a variety of species of animals including the Condor, the Llama, the Giant Toad and the Andean Iguana, one of the few lizards that can be found in a cooler climate.Located in South America, these mountains stretch 4,500 miles from north to south, along the western coast of the continent. Because of their relation to the equator, temperatures are usually mild in the mountains.

The Rainforests of South AmericaThe Amazon River Basin is home to the largest rainforest on Earth. The basin -- roughly the size of the forty-eight contiguous United States -- covers some 40% of the South American continent and includes parts of eight South American countries of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Guyana, Suriname and of course, Venezuela.

The rainforests are interdependent which means that all species are dependant upon one another for survival. This is a key characteristic of the rainforests ecosystem. Each species that disappears from the ecosystem can weaken the survival chances of another. This is one of the reasons why ecologists are so concerned with the slowly disappearing lands of the Earths Rainforests.
