Venecia es una ciudad encantadora. Desde el año 1000 se enfrentó a luchas diarias para su superviviencia. Durante siglos ha sido uno de los mayores centros culturales, uno de los estados regionales más poderosos de occidente con importantes relaciones comerciales internacionales.

Venice is a wonderful city. It had to fight daily to survive since the year 1000. For ages it has been one of the most important cultural and artistic zones, one of the most powerful regional states, and its ability in the international traffics is the symbol of a big civilization.

El esplendor de la actualidad se debe a una política basada enesforzarse por resolver los problemas relacionados con la naturaleza. Veneciasiempre ha tenido que luchar contra el peligro de que la arena transportada por los canales sedepositara formando pantanos contaminando el aire. Hasta que se bonificó la zona las fiebres palúdicas causaron muchasmuertes.

The modern splendour is given by a politic based on solving the problems about nature. The microcosm of Venice has often been threatened by many problems. Venice has always risked that the sand, carried by the many canals that pass through the city, would depositate itself causing the formation of swamps. In fact, this polluted the air, and until the area was reclaimed the malaric fevers caused many deaths.

A lo largo de los siglos, el agua de los canales ha provocado la destrucción de los puertos, que junto con las guerras por el control del comercio marítimo y las epidemias, han causado el declive de la economía.

La lucha no terminará nunca y se necesitarán recursos tecnológicos y esfuerzos humanos para mantener viva la ciudad.

During the centuries the water of the canals caused the destruction of the harbours, that together with the fights for the control of maritime trade and epidemics, caused the decline of the economy. The fight will never stop and it will always require the help of numerous resources and technologies to let the city survive.
