Clean hands, save lives By Roem Yap

T R I V I A ! Did you know? - An apple a day, keeps the doctor away! - An apple tree can produce up to 400 ap-ples a year. - An apple is a very refreshing tonic for oily skin. It makes an excellent remedy for fine wrinkles, cracked skin, itching and inflam-mation - Eating an apple is a more reliable method of staying awake than consuming a cup of coffee. The natural sugar in an apple is more potent than the caffeine in coffee.

Facing facts With clean hands is a healthier you. October is the month of fit and wellness, of moving and action and one of these is the celebration of Global hand washing day. 15th of October is the yearly celebration of this one step prevention for wellness event (global hand washing) and was originally created for children and schools but can be celebrated by those who promote hand washing with soap (global hand washing org). Magic of soap With a trifle amount of soap creates magic, with real magical effects minus the fairy god mother and magic dust. Soap according to global hand washing’s page is the most inexpensive and effective way to prevent diarrheal and acute respiratory infection to which causes child’s death. Soap has its alchemic component that does the entire trick with its formula that kills germs and bacteria and other disease causing organisms. A happy birthday song Singing indeed is waking, but a happy birthday song is cleansing. Others practice singing 2 happy birthday songs to ensure that sterile finish and germ free touch. Clean hands to save lives

A germ free hand for a longer life, with but a single move that would add to your glowing years. A habit of cleaning and hygiene awareness, a must for every human living to avoid parasitic organisms within the your sacred temple.

The newest and hippest craze in Cagayan de Oro City is

penetration of milk tea drinking. For the past two years,

opening of milk tea establishments has been consecutive.

But does this “health” drink provide equal nutritional bene-

fits that the traditional tea does? How are they different?

Which is better?

Tea is a mixture of hot water and dried healthy leaves. It is

known to contain flavonoids that is good for the heart and

can help reduce the risk of acquiring cancer. It also con-

tains caffeine known to stimulate and increase alertness of

the nervous system. Its most important content is antioxi-

dants which are known to increase regeneration of cells

and eliminate free-radicals.

An innovation of the plain tea is adding milk to it. Al-

though milk has many nutritional benefits, mixing it with

tea doesn’t exactly multiply the nutrients the concoction

gives.

THRIVE conducted a press conference last March 23 of which they are promoting the

“Breast Cancer Awareness Advocacy”.

THRIVE is a nonprofit advocacy group of ad-vocates who gives awareness to women about

the said cancer.

“THRIVE brings to the community free breast

cancer screening and surgery, as well as sup-

port to breast cancer patients”, said Stef Uy, one of the supporters of THRIVE.

Together with the Tamparong sisters, the tres

marias behind the Spruce. They came up with the idea of developing a shoe for a cause under

the spruce pinked line.

Tamparong Sisters pursued with the advocacy

because their mother, Maridel Tamparong, was

diagnosed with breast cancer

last 2010. They want other

women to be aware and con-

scious of their health.

Maridel have gone through treatments and she survived. She is now

cancer free for three years already.

Spruce pinked line would sell shoes at its lowest price and it is a whole year collection.

“Spruce will release view shoe designs under Spruce-Pinked and percentage of the proceeds of every shoe you buy will go to

THRIVE CDO’s free breast screening programs and other activi-

ties”, Stef said.

This month celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there

will be a Breast Cancer Symposium on October 5. THRIVE will

continue its advocacy on raising awareness to women.

Don’t milk my tea By Ana Liza Banaynal

It has been discovered that mixing milk with tea decreases

the nutritional benefits of the beverage. It affects the sup-

posed effects of both drinks.

My awareness and exposure to milk tea and its myriad of

palatable flavors made me love the beverage. I love how it

contains tea benefits without the bitter taste. But having

known its disadvantage, milk tea will be crossed out from

my list of favorite things.

Tea shops in CDO mostly offer milk tea as their specialties.

Milk teas really taste good. But I’d rather choose nutrition

over taste. Good things don’t always come sweet.

I drink both traditional and milk teas. But I prefer tradi-

tional tea, though it tastes bitter and leafy. It could give lots

of benefits. If I really want the nutrition of both milk and

tea, I’d drink them separately, so as not to distort their nutri-

tional properties.
