Belarus: Planting A church in “White Russia”Belarus (literally “White Russia”) in Eastern Europe is a country most people could not find on a world map. But God is very much aware of the 10 million people living there. God is doing a special work in this land with young, often marginalized, evan-gelicals who are catalyzing a new movement of churches bringing faith, hope and new life to their com-munities.

Since becoming independent in 1991, Belarus has been reforging its own identity, emerging from the shadow of Russia - its largest neighbor and brother to the east. Unlike other former Soviet countries, Belarus re-tained much of its strong, centralized form of government while pursuing modest economic reforms. Much of the recent growth is due to govern-ment sponsored initiatives.

In Belarus, like in most of our world, over 70% of the people live in urban centers. Minsk, home to 2.3 million people, is the geographical, political, economic, and cultural heart of the country. Evangelical groups rep-resent slightly more than 1% of the population. They are distrusted and marginalized as cults by the Orthodox church and the government. The Voice of The Martyrs lists Belarus as a country hostile towards evangelical churches.

Even in this hostile climate, the evan-gelical church in Belarus and Minsk in particular has experienced a season of relative peace and growth. Although atheism and Russian Orthodoxy are still the predominant views, evan-gelical groups are stepping up to the challenge of planting new churches.

Impact Ministry Group and Impact Europe (formerly Global Mission-ary Ministries) have partnered to establish four of the six evangelical churches in Minsk. Now, under the catalytic leadership of Dmitry Lazuta, a new movement of churches is ris-ing up with young leaders ready to take risks to reach their countrymen for Christ.

A W O R L D - W I D E E F F O R T. . .Dmitry Mamoyko is one of these leaders. He has planted a “Next Gen” church within the walls of an existing church, and this young congregation is ready to be fully birthed on its own. They are clearing and breaking ground in a residential area of Minsk to build their own worship center and meeting place.

Virginia Churches through ICOM are partnering with Impact Europe to launch this new church in a new building. There is a bright future for the church as God raises up young believers through new churches to shine the light of Jesus in White Russia.

World-wide Church P lanting in 2015

The International Conference on Missions is drawing closer every day, and these church plants around the world are well on their way to becoming a reality! We have been highlighting a different plant in each issue of the VEF Quarterly over the past few years, but if you want to catch up and see a summary on each church plant then visit www.ICOMvirginia.com! Click on the “7 Churches” tab for a summary of what is going to happen in each of these unique cities around the world. There, you can also download a prayer sheet that will guide you through how to pray for each church plant and its leaders during this critical time of planning.

. . .T O R E A C H O U T T O T H E L O S TGenerosity Feeds: Fulfilling Jesus’ Mission In Your CityWhen VEF Church Planter Ron Klabunde planted Restore Church in the wealthiest county in America, he never imagined that food insecurity for over 12,000 local children would be the focus of the church’s outreach.

“Now… what are you going to do to feed children here who struggle with hunger?” That one question, posed by an un-churched business leader, changed Ron’s life forever and gave birth to a movement of churches who are reaching beyond their walls to feed local children.

“We have discovered that children are struggling with hunger in every county in America. I can’t think of a better way for the church to leave the building and share God’s love in tangible ways than mobilizing their city to feed these children”, says Ron.

Ron founded Generosity Feeds to enable churches to package meals that

can be distributed across America. In partnership with Generosity Feeds, churches are packaging 10,000 or more meals in less than two hours with hundreds of community volunteers. The typical Generosity Feeds event brings four un-churched workers for every churched person who attends; it provides a unique opportunity to build relationships in the community while expanding discipleship beyond their church walls.

Church planter Josh Burnett reports, “We had more pre-Christians come to church following our community event with Generosity Feeds than any of our previous larger events.”

Today, Generosity Feeds is working in 17 states and has packaged over a half-million meals.

What will your church do to feed local children who struggle with hunger?

Prayer is on the rise!In Mark 13:18 Jesus offers a concise description of the Temple, His place of worship. He says, “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” But the question churches must wrestle with is this: If Jesus were to visit your church this Sunday, would prayer be immediately visible to Him?

While one recent study found that less than 5% of churches have a significant mobilized prayer ministry, that trend is changing in churches across Virginia:

• One church recently added a Prayer Wall to their worship room where people can leave the names of lost friends on note cards so others can intercede.

• Others have strategically placed Prayer Rooms where people can go to pray during worship services.

• Some are Prayer Walking neighborhoods, schools, or high-crime areas.

• Sill others are re-visiting mid-week Prayer Services, where the only agenda is intercession.

• Some have scheduled the Great Wall of Prayer from Team Expansion to offer a weekend prayer focus on unreached people groups.

• Others are finding ways to pray for the ICOM 15 Church Plants.

• Some are increasing the face-time of prayer during Sunday worship by finding creative ways to have people pray for key weekly themes (children, missionaries, etc.).

• And many churches are offering intercessory prayer as one of the options during the end of the service response time.

How is the Prayer Ministry of your church growing? Please let us know and we would love to encourage other churches to pray through your story.

Don’t know where to start? Drop me a line; I would love to help you take your prayer ministry to a new level.

Breaking News: ICOM and CIY join forces in Richmond, va!Beginning this year in Richmond, ICOM’s Student Inter-national Conference of Missions (SICOM) has forged a partnership with CIY (Christ in Youth), a national leader for inspiring and equipping teens to make a Kingdom impact.

SICOM will bring hundreds of teens from across the coun-try and around the world to join teens from our region.

The SICOM theme, “Exile”, mirrors the adult conference theme, “The Away Team”, challenging youth to be Chosen and Different (1 Pet. 2:9-12).

We are challenging you to bring all of your teens to SICOM this fall. Check out the Promo card (below), and visit www.theicom.org/sicom for more info.

Journey Church Rebuilds For more than 35 years, The Journey (previously known as Central Christian Church) has brought the love of Jesus to the Springfield, Virginia and D.C. area, and then reached around the world through people connected with the church. Their capital campaign, “Reaching Up...Reaching Out,” started in May of 2013 and will be completed in May of 2015. It has given them better tools to reach their com-munity, especially our military community, for Jesus. Just in the last three months, 16 individuals have given their lives to Christ and were baptized into Him.

Through their remodel, they have totally redone their existing basement and added handicap accessible restrooms, a new kitchen and three new classrooms. Upstairs, they were able to gain a larger foyer space, handicap accessible restrooms, a new nursery, and an elevator. They have enlarged the worship center so they can seat an additional 100 people and added all new sound, lighting, and multi-media. With a contemporary makeover outside, landscaping, a paved parking lot and much needed drainage have produced a warm welcome to their building.

This project has been an amazing ride, and we believe God is about to do some more amazing things in Northern Vir-ginia through a body of believers called The Journey.

CAlvary renovates and restores This spring, Calvary Christian Church has made a significant investment in the future growth of their ministry in the Burke, Virginia community. The $450,000 project completely updated four main areas of their building resulting in spaces ready to welcome and assimilate new people.

New flooring and ceiling tiles were installed downstairs with fresh paint in classrooms and the fellowship hall to improve the space for children’s ministry.

The lobby was expanded and new lighting, ceiling tiles and ceramic tile were added. The nursery and the main office were also renovated in the process.

In the worship auditorium, along with painting and carpeting, the projector and screen were replaced with two large screen televisions. A new, larger stage with a stone wall backdrop was added. The sound system and sound booth were completely upgraded, and a stage lighting system was installed. House lights were updated, and new chairs will soon be delivered.

The exterior work is still in progress. It includes repaving the parking lot, expanding the handicap entrance, and repairing the soffits and drainage.

ByLAws Revision NoticeThe VEF Board of Directors will be voting on several significant changes to the bylaws at their scheduled meeting on September 8th, 2015. Our current bylaws prescribe a 60-day public notice of the changes to be published prior to the vote. You can access a copy of the new version, with a description of the changes, on or after July 10th at www.tinyurl/VEFbylawrevision.

. . . G o d ’ s K i n g d o m K e e p s G r o w i n gSupport the VEF’s newest new church in Harrisonburg, VA with your $20 donation! The Kingdom Equation is a program designed to grow the church through new churches! Each individual that signs up pledges to contribute $20, twice a year. Each contribution supports a new church plant in its most critical stages. This spring, we are asking that you contribute your $20 to support Renaissance Christian Church which just launched on March 1st in Harrisonburg, VA.

The church is in its most critical phase of growth, and during this crucial time your donation of twenty dollars can help ease the financial burden of growing a church

from the ground up. There are many important hurdles a church planter must overcome, but struggling to pay the bills shouldn’t be one of them. Until this infant church is able to become self supporting, we are asking that you contribute a small amount to ease the burden.

If you happen to live in the Harrisonburg area, Renaissance Church would love to meet you! Visit on a Sunday morning and show your support by cheering on their volunteers and staff! There is no commitment required - but they would be encouraged by your presence.

Check out their website at www.therenchurch.com for more information, or “Like” their Facebook page to stay in touch with their progress and events!

To donate, send your $20 to VEF Office, PO Box 6224,Williamsburg VA, 23188 or visit www.vef.cc and click ‘Give.’ Follow the instructions and select ‘Kingdom Equation’ from the ‘Select a Fund’ dropdown menu.

QuarterlyICOM 2015 Is for the entire family! We’ve been taking our kids to ICOM since our first trip there over 20 years ago in Lexington, KY.

We hope you’ll bring your whole family to ICOM this Fall in Richmond. Along with the excellent programming and workshops for adults, there is also a great program just for kids and a special Youth Convention led by the nationally known teen ministry C.I.Y. (See the CIY article inside).

One of my favorite parts of the conference is the display floor with over 500 booths where my kids get to see firsthand how God and His people are at work all over the world. I think every child and teen should experience this glimpse of world outreach during their childhood.

The registration fee for your entire family for all four days is a bargain at $50. Go online to register now at www.theicom.org. You can book your hotel room early on the same site. The VEF will have a large booth to welcome you just inside the entrance to the giant display floor. We hope to see you and your whole family in Richmond, VA from October 29 - November 1!
