Fall 2015 www.waypointchurchpartners.com Volume 15, Issue 4 TWO ORGANIZATIONS UNITE: A BRAND NEW ERA SERVING TODAY’S CHURCHES Last month at the International Conference on Missions in Richmond, we made an historic announcement during the Friday evening main session that created a lot of buzz around the convention center and even around town. Here are the details of that big announcement: Two years ago the leaders of the VEF and Envision in North Carolina began a conversation about making a greater impact in our region by combining into one team. After becoming convinced we could see even more Kingdom growth as ONE team rather than two, both Boards moved a year ago to begin down the path to merge into one strong organization. Two months ago, on September 8th, the final legal step of that path was completed with the unanimous vote by the Board to accept bylaws for the new organization. During this season, a special team was tasked with executing the process for selecting the name of our new organization. The team had members from those in their twenties through their sixties. Their process included seven filtering steps that reduced the initial list of over 400 potential names down to 250, then 50, 20, 8, and 3 until the final name was affirmed. More than 120 people of varying ages, gender, and ministry backgrounds from around the country were involved in one of these seven steps. TWO ORGANIZATIONS UNITE: A BRAND NEW ERA SERVING TODAY’S CHURCHES Last month at the International Conference on Missions in Richmond, we made an historic announcement during the Friday evening main session that created a lot of buzz around the convention center and even around town. Here are the details of that big announcement:

Two years ago the leaders of the VEF and Envision in North Carolina began a conversation about making a greater impact in our region by combining into one team.

We are proud to announce our new name: Waypoint Church Partners

A “waypoint” is a modern navigational term signifying a specific point along a journey. They are used by pilots and ship captains to chart a course to their destination.

Katie Campbell & Steph Saufley from Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville commissioned Michael and Rosalind Trusty along with Mark and Holly Trump to plant a church in Tauranga, New Zealand with the South Pacific Christian Fellowship.

Sonia Cabell from Maple Grove Christian Church in Charlottesville charged Jim and Claudia Tune from Impact Canada to plant another great church in Toronto, Canada.

For the past 4 years Christian churches from around the Commonwealth have been contributing special funds for the exciting vision to see 7 new churches launched around the globe as a result of the VEF hosting ICOM in Richmond. More than $250,000 of Kingdom funds

will be sent to the 7 international church planting organizations selected!

During four main sessions at ICOM, representatives from several of these contributing churches symbolically handed over-sized checks to each

church planting organization which will launch the featured church in their respective region. We’re anticipating the exciting reports as these projects become reality from one continent to the next over the next several months!

Two Organizations Unite: Cont...In modern technical terms, waypoints are the specific coordinates used by GPS devices as reference points along a charted course. More generally, a waypoint is a reference point that helps us know where we are and where we are going. Whether we are walking, driving, sailing, or flying, waypoints help us find our way.

Simply put, waypoints help you understand where you are and where you’re headed. And that is at the heart of who we are and what we are about as an organization: Coming alongside churches, both new ones and established ones, as well as their leaders, to help them understand where they are and where they are headed in their journey to accomplish their God-given mission and then charting a strategic course together to navigate from one waypoint to the next.

It’s a great name, don’t you think? We can already envision lots of great ministry applications for the use of this term. You probably can, too. Naturally, for many of us, it will take some time getting used to this new name. But in the end, the

same great mission is being accomplished by churches and leaders throughout this region to see the Kingdom grow.

Because of the work of the VEF and Envision over the years, there is great name recognition for both organizations here in our region and even around the country. One of the immediate challenges will be sharing this exciting news with anyone and everyone associated with our Brotherhood of churches.

Would you help us by sharing not only this news that the VEF and Envision are now one great team called Waypoint, but also that the same great mission of Kingdom growth will continue to be navigated now by Waypoint and all her partners. We hope your commitment to Waypoint will match and even exceed your partnership with our two former organizations. We have got a lot of Kingdom work to do. Let’s chart a course to navigate that journey... together!

The Home Team for “the Away Team”Over 300 volunteers from Christian Churches all over the Commonwealth played host to the world by serving in a variety of areas around the Greater Richmond Convention Center at ICOM. They served as the "Home Team" for this great conference with the "Away Team" theme.

A very special thanks goes to Chris Santasiere from Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville for coordinating the volunteering both before and during the convention.

Also, many thanks to Al Kunkel from Northampton Church of Christ for arranging the transportation!

Lastly, thanks to the Greater Richmond Convention Center and the city of Richmond for helping to make this event a success!

As a team of Virginians, our dedicated, friendly crew was a demonstration of Southern hospitality at its finest.

Don Burgland from Mechanicsville Church of Christ helped construct all the furniture and then carried in supplies for

the VEF/Waypoint booth.

Courtney Mullins puts together booth flooring.

Phillip and Karen Murdock from LifePointe Christian Church greet conference goers as they arrive.

Chris Santasiere from Fairmount Christian Church coordinated all

volunteers for the entire conference!
